Air Force's New $141 Billion Nuclear Missile
The cost of the US Air Force’s new Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile surged by 81%, now reaching $141 billion. Northrop Grumman manages the program, aiming to modernize the US nuclear force.
The new cost estimates each missile priced at $214 million, up from $118 million.
The escalating costs include over 400 new launch facilities and extensive fiber-optic networks. A review also stated the missile’s service start will be delayed to 2032.
This spike is a setback for the Sentinel. The Pentagon is now evaluating the long-term budget impacts and construction costs.
