TikTok Ban Passes Congress
The U.S. Senate has passed a bill which will ban TikTok unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, divests it within the next 270 days.
Senator Marco Rubio highlighted the risk of continued Chinese control over the app used by 170 million Americans. China denies any threats posed by TikTok to U.S. national security.
The ACLU suggests this legislation might set a global precedent, increasing governmental control over social media.
