Trump’s 25% Tariff on Auto Imports
President Trump announced a 25% tariff on imported autos and parts, effective April 3, aiming to boost domestic manufacturing and generate $100 billion in annual tax revenue.
The tariffs could raise the cost of imported vehicles by $12,500. Nearly half of US vehicles are imported from Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and Germany.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney criticized the tariffs, while European leaders warned of economic damage.
Automaker stocks, including General Motors and Ford, dropped. Experts predict a 30% reduction in auto production, while the United Auto Workers union supports the move.

FAA Addresses Air Traffic Shortage
The FAA plans to hire 2,000 air traffic controller trainees in 2025 to address a shortage of 3,500 controllers, a 10% drop since 2012.
This follows safety concerns, especially after the January 29 collision near Reagan Washington National Airport which killed 67.
The FAA will establish a safety panel to assess helicopter and fixed-wing interactions and oversee Boeing’s manufacturing practices.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Space Force certified ULA's Vulcan rocket for national security missions. ULA plans 12 launches in 2025, with 26 NSSL missions secured.

TikTok for Tariffs
President Trump hinted at reducing tariffs on China to finalize TikTok’s sale, affecting 170 million Americans. He stated, “Every point in tariffs is worth more than TikTok.”
ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, faces a deadline of April 5 to find a non-Chinese buyer or risk a nationwide ban due to national security concerns.
Trump has delayed enforcement of the ban, emphasizing Beijing’s approval in the negotiations.
Tariffs on Chinese imports have been raised to 20%. Trump is exploring bids for the app, valued between $10 billion and $50 billion, aiming for a resolution benefiting US-China relations.

Supreme Court on Ghost Guns
The US Supreme Court upheld federal regulations on ghost guns, ruling 7-2 that kits used to assemble firearms must follow firearm laws, including serial numbers, background checks, and age verification.
The use of ghost guns has increased, with over 27,000 recovered in 2023. Justice Gorsuch highlighted the ease of assembling kits like Polymer80's “Buy Build Shoot” in 20 minutes.
The Biden administration’s 2022 regulation aimed to reduce gun violence. Critics argue it overreaches by treating parts as complete firearms.

Boiling Away the Plastic
A study found that boiling and filtering tap water can remove microplastics and nanoplastics.
Boiling hard water with high calcium content proved most effective, with a 90% removal rate in samples containing 300 mg of calcium carbonate. This method works by forming a crust of calcium carbonate that traps microplastics, which can then be filtered.
Soft water removed about 25% of particles.
Microplastics, linked to health issues like diabetes and stroke, come from packaging and personal care products. Scientists recommend widespread adoption of this technique to improve drinking water safety.
