AI’s Black Boxes Just Got a Little Less Mysterious

Systems like ChatGPT learn independently by analyzing vast data sets and identifying patterns.

Unlike traditional programs, they are not coded line by line. Even the developers can’t fully explain why AI systems sometimes produce unexpected results. Anthropic researchers have decoded parts of this black box.

They used a technique called "dictionary learning." This method associates specific combinations of artificial neurons with particular concepts. Their research can identify features like burritos, programming code, and even dangerous items like biological weapons.

By understanding these features, the team can alter the AI's behavior. They can make it safer by suppressing harmful features or improving performance by enhancing useful ones.

Trump Media Loses $300 Million in Q1

Trump Media and Technology Group, owner of the Truth Social network, reported a massive $327.6 million loss last quarter.

The loss includes $311 million in non-cash expenses from merging with Digital World Acquisition Corp., a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).

In the first quarter, Trump Media generated $770,500 in revenue, mainly from a new advertising initiative. This is down from $1.1 million the previous year.

Earlier this month, Trump Media fired its auditor, BF Borgers, due to fraud charges. Previous auditors also faced issues, one resigning and another terminated.

Temu and Shein Break Cargo Industry

Chinese e-commerce Temu and Shein are shipping the equivalent of 88 Boeing 777 freighters full of goods daily. Driving air freight costs skyward.

Temu and Shein, known for fast fashion, sell directly from Chinese manufacturers. Avoiding American brand markups.

Due to massive demand, air freight rates from China to the U.S. have doubled to $4.75 per kilogram.

With explosive growth and holiday season ahead, logistics experts foresee even greater challenges. “Imagine what it will be in September, October, November, and December,” cautions Brian Bourke from SEKO Logistics.
