Major Data Breach
A data breach exposed the personal information of about 2.7 billion people. This information includes names, addresses, and Social Security numbers.
A group named USDoD stole these records from National Public Data, a company that sells personal data for background checks.
The data was offered for $3.5 million but was leaked for free on hacking forums. Thieves can use this information to create fake accounts or reset passwords.
To protect yourself, place a freeze on your credit file at Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. Also, consider using strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication to add layers of security.
