Donald Trump Trump suggests opening federal lands for housing development. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris proposed building 3 million new housing units and capping annual rent increases for large landlords at 5% over two years.

Research indicates that upzoning may yield only an 0.8% increase in supply over several years.

US Household Wealth Reaches $163.8 trillion

US household wealth reached $163.8 trillion in the second quarter of 2024.

Real estate holdings saw an increase of $1.8 trillion. Equity holdings also contributed, rising by $700 billion.

The total net worth of households and non-profits rose from $161 trillion in the first quarter.

Household debt climbed at an annualized rate of 3.2%, the fastest growth since late 2022. Meanwhile, cash on hand decreased to $18.44 trillion, down from $18.51 trillion in March.

OpenAI's “Strawberry”: The First Reasoning AI

OpenAI launched its new "Strawberry" series of AI models, featuring the o1 and o1-mini.

These models employ "chain-of-thought" reasoning, allowing them to break complex problems into manageable steps. They are capable of tackling complex queries in science, math, and coding.

The o1 model scored 83% on the International Mathematics Olympiad qualifying exam, a jump from the previous model's 13%. Furthermore, the new AI surpassed human PhD-level accuracy in science problem-solving.

The AI now spends more time analyzing questions, mirroring human thought processes.

FDA Approved Hearing Aid Software for Apple’s New AirPods 

The FDA approved the first over-the-counter hearing aid software for Apple’s AirPods Pro. This new feature will help adults aged 18 and older with mild to moderate hearing loss. 

Their AirPods Pro 2 will have the "Hearing Aid Feature" through a software update this fall. This software amplifies sounds in real-time, improving users' hearing experiences.

A study with 118 participants showed that using this software offered similar benefits to traditional hearing aids.

The FDA hopes this feature will increase access to hearing support for the 30 million American adults report hearing.
