The Shrimp Deal That Broke the Red Lobster

Red Lobster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The COVID-19 pandemic, rising costs, and an ill-fated shrimp promotion contributed to its downfall.

The "Ultimate Endless Shrimp" deal led to a $11 million loss in the third quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, the company has debts between $1 billion and $10 billion.

The chain will close some locations and has already shut down over 50 restaurants. Despite the bankruptcy, most restaurants will stay open during restructuring.

Red Lobster now plans to sell to an entity controlled by its lenders, hoping to cut debt and streamline operations.

By March 2021, Archegos had lost $36 billion. Staff described the atmosphere as a "bloodbath". Bill Hung is on trial now, and could land a 220 year sentence.

GSK Whistleblower Alleges Concealment of Zantac Cancer Risks

Valisure, a Connecticut lab, has sued GSK for allegedly hiding cancer risks in Zantac.

The lawsuit claims GSK defrauded the U.S. government under the False Claims Act by not disclosing that Zantac could produce a carcinogen, NMDA, which makes it unsafe.

Valisure’s 2019 tests indicated these risks, but GSK allegedly kept these findings from the FDA, which had approved Zantac in 1983.

The federal government declined to join the lawsuit, leaving Valisure to pursue it independently. Currently, over 70,000 private lawsuits related to Zantac are pending, with the first one about to start in Chicago.
