Would you be less likely to buy a new car if import prices rose due to tariffs?

  • 87% Yes
  • 13% No

EmailComments
c.ma...Cars are usually the 1st or 2nd most expensive items people buy
srcl...Couldn't afford it!!!
mbru...Foreign cars are better made. Trump doesn't understand the auto manufacturing industry and how it works. But what else is new.
wspa...It’s absurd. OK to have tariffs to level the field but still starting a trade war is all wrong.
jrla...Response categories are not reflective of real world options. The reality is I’d be less likely to buy brands impacted and more likely to buy those not, but still willing to buy new.
pfor...Another crazy and stupid plan by the orange man. All auto sales will drop, including domestic.
msyk...It’s not just import car prices that will increase. Domestically manufactured prices will also increase with less price competition from abroad, even if they don’t import any parts.
ersl...I’m almost 80 and always have purchased a new car. My present car is a 2019. Therefore I will need a new car eventually because of the safety features provided. I would need and everyone of my age range needs a safe, easy to enter and exit vehicle, equipped with all the latest features, including heated seats (which always has been the very high end expensive model). Will I be able to afford that new car? And will everyone at my age be able to afford a safe car or will we have to drive an old car as our heath (hearing, reaction time, sight) declines? Our roads will be filled by many compromised drivers.
caro...I bought a new car last week and kept my old car. I want to see how the tariffs affect prices and if my old 5 year old car appreciates when I sell it in a few months to prove the point. None of this is healthy. We already had a robust growing economy before the change of leadership in Washington.
pjpa...I'm in the market for a hybrid Ram, Cyber Truck or a GM diesel so it'll have zero impact on my decision
mbcu...Just stupid regulations that stops free trade. Just another way for the Trump Billionaires to steal from the common man
rbru...This makes my purchase decision for me. I had planned to buy a new car this summer. I can wait 3+ years to make that purchase.
nata...Seems like it’ll hurt Americans more and help Elon Musk.
atli...I am waiting 4 years to buy the the world's best selling Chinese made electric BYD priced at $10,000. It could be a step toward saving humanity from climate disaster.
tabr...Foreign manufacturers will absorb most of the tariff via a wholesale price reduction such that the price to consumers will be the same
gerb...Auto makers in the USA are unlikely to lower their prices to take advantage of the tariffs. They will use them as a way of increasing their profits by raising their prices.
tbon...Do not support the tariff
pvol...Price and quality of manufacturing is extremely important in the purchasing of a auto. Also, marketing and new models increase purchases. All of the above will depress purchases.
tomg...Prices will go up and countries will retaliate. No brainer
jrh....Just plain stupid!
jmic...The Administration should find a much less destructive way to try to balance our trade and bring back critical industries.
exmx...Luckily I’m in good shape car wise. I know Trump is looking at the big picture. We do need more manufacturing here in the U.S. , but sadly we are are own worst enemy. Unions forced company’s to move plants elsewhere. Cheaper production costs. It’ll get a bit worse before it gets better. I just hope after four years we have someone in place to keep it going. Especially the deportation of illegals and student visas that are excuses to have trouble makers here.
jllm...Unfortunately it’s the American way, we drive what we can afford. The percentages of yes and no answers mimics station in life.
cery...yes, cars are already expensive and they decline in value every year; combine that with high interest rates and this is a recipe for me to hold on to my car(s) for a little longer...maybe 4 yrs until the next administration.
cmic...First this was a bone to Musk. Second, my guess is these tariffs will cause so much turmoil that they will be short lived.
cbvi...General feedback: Trump doesn't have a clue as to what he is doing! He just likes the word!
bret...Buying a new car after tariffs artificially inflate the price should be limited to emergency situations. Wait 2, 4, or even 8 years until the tariffs are removed.
klod...Buy American or a car like the BMW made in SC.
tomw...I would consider cars made in America.
zack...I will buy American. Since Anna is too lazy/bias to explain this properly-> Cars are actually still made in the U.S. Most importantly almost every car company that you would possible want builds in Mexico(majority) and Canada. Guess who buys the far majority of cars built in Mexico??? Ding ding! The U.S. So here is tariffs 101: Americans will either not buy or buy American for the first 6 months. Then most of these car companies will have no choice but to contract factories in the U.S. instantly lifting their Tariff. Once said factories commit then their factories in Mexico/Canada flood back stock into market at a cheaper rate to recoup loses. The bad part is jobs will be lost in Mexico/Canada. American motor industry will boom! PSA- The POTUS should always put their citizens first. Crazy concept I know lol
nstr...Cars I buy are American companies that have been produced in the United States only. I have walked away from vehicles that are manufactured outside of the U.S.A. I have never purchased a vehicle from a foreign country that is manufactured in the U.S.A. either. I’m considering purchasing a Tesla because it is made in the U.S.A. by a legal immigrant who earned citizenship the hard way and is a perfect example of the American dream, the same way my ancestors did.
mary...Are you kidding? Pay $8000.00+ more! NO WAY! I’m buying one now.
reit...Impeach Trump
june...I’d buy an American car instead and support our country.
cica...These tariffs are proof that Donald Trump is either the Manchurian candidate, sent here to destroy the country, or that he’s just plain out of his mind. he’s about to destroy the economy
rsle...Cars are too expensive even without tariffs
mart...Duh
jonh...This was the highly anticipated move by Trump to get the press to chase a story other than Signal-gate. He doesn't care who he hurts as long as the spotlight is off of the clown show he selected for his cabinet.
jack...The Auto Market is now a global market rather than a country market!
g_ri...Even the vehicles made in the US have many imported parts and systems, so the domestic prices will go up as well.
cjc3...This is plain stupid. If we don’t buy Japan or Germany’s cars, why would they buy from Boeing or Lockheed?
tubi...sure, who wouldnt? but theyll force mfr's to move back on shore, though trump handled it like a bull in a china shop.
daut...An extra $12,500 for a useless tariff that will hurt our country even more??? No thank you!!! I'll duct tape my old car together before I do that!
miri...My goal has been to buy American made products especially cars and trucks. That will continue to be my desire! It will be rough in the immediate future, but worth it eventually. We need to train the next generation on manufacturing and hands-on careers so we will have the workforce available to fill the jobs .
moha...The best cars are made overseas.
mull...I usually buy two year old vehicles never new.
robs...I would never buy a new car, but obviously the price of used cars Made in the USA will also increase by 25% within 2 years as the market will allow it, and consumers will have no choice. This one will feel like the biggest gut punch of them all for the middle class, but our country and economy will become stronger as a result as that money gets reinvested and re-circulates throughout the U.S. economy. We also need more huge factories on hand if we ever go to war with China.
jose...Wait until DJT leaves office and tariffs are removed
hgde...I’d be less likely to buy any car because domestic car prices will go up when the foreign cars become more expensive. Domestic manufacturers will seize the opportunity to raise prices as demand for their cars go up. Tariffs are a lose lose. Read your history books.
char...The prices would put a foreign car out of my price range. I think it is being forgotten about the quality and reliability when purchasing a car. I do not feel American cars are as well made or as reliable
paul...Even ‘’American’’ cars use imported parts.
ebr....So Trump hates America and her citizens. I sure am glad I didn’t vote for him.
arno...I would be less likely to purchase a new car in the foreseeable future. As production shifts to the USA then I believe you'll see American car manufacturers able to sell their product at a better price than imports. Hopefully American cars will once again be better built than imports.
nord...I have always bought a new car I may have to buy a good low mileage car when I need one. If new is too expensive.
octa...I hope you didn't write "aiming to boost domestic manufacturing and generate $100 billion in annual tax revenue." with a straight face. All car manufacturering requires a global supply chain regardless of where a bank of robots perform the final assembly.
greg...Cars are made well theses days. We usually keep vehicles for 10 years already. A couple more years doesn't make a difference.
kold...I could afford to pay 25% more for imported cars, but I will avoid buying a new one, and I am definitely not going to buy an American made car.
lwpo...Cars are too expensive already. Adding the tariffs makes the price prohibitive.
aubr...I’m never likely to buy a new car - I only buy used - but now I’m even less likely. When the stock on the flagship American automaker drops, too, don’t you understand this is a terrible idea?
pete...Stupid move
cmes...It's not going to stop anybody because people buy cars and make payments and the 25% care has almost no tiny little effect on a car payment
jbor...I drive a Toyota as I find the durability and longevity far outlasts American cars. Make better cars America and maybe I will buy one. Also make cars in America, US companies are manufacturing them elsewhere due to cost "Ford cars are manufactured in the United States, with notable plants in Mexico and Canada, and also have manufacturing operations worldwide, including in countries like Germany, China, and India"
ndej...The auto industry, as well as the economy is integrated. We need other countries to be effective. This policy is just another one of many that will isolate America from the world.
mcal...Buy American autos. Always.
mads...I won't buy any new car until the tariffs are lifted.
lawr...I thought Trump was smart. Basic economics studies indicate free trade is much better than tariff's.
tour...I was thinking of buying a new car by the end of this year but will not now.
broo...buy a car from a American car company !
mtfa...It's absolutely bonkers the havoc this administration is causing!!!!
mcgi...Tho only people that will be hurt by these stupid tariffs are the American working public.Mr Trump needs to get a grip
jrom...If a new car were in my plan, I would have a budget in mind and would adjust accordingly. I would shop around more and might wait 30 days to see what shakes out of this, but I would still buy a car.
bjli...New cars are too expensive and the worst investment. Especially when the value drops significantly the minute you drive off the lot at the dealership. Not to mention part cost, sales tax and insurance costs.
mark...I own a Honda Accord, Honda cars are so reliable I will just maintain it for the rest of my life and never need another new car.
serg...price,price,price,price,price,
cee....We will never purchase from a domestic brand. The vehicles are low-quality compared to Toyota, Honda, Nissan, MB and Audi.
ttim...If tariffs are good for America hi am for it.
lw63...Wonder how long it will take PINO Trump to walk this back? He will have to consult with President Musk first.
gsar...The vehicles are already over priced and it's not because of the tariffs
jrv1...Dumb move. Emotional not logical decision. No winners
robe...This country started off building American with American parts. Why can't we still do that? Have we fallen so far that it's no longer possible to do.
lawe...Tariffs are an unnecessary tax on the purchaser. Why would I want to spend $12K more on a car that isn't delivering an equivalent amount of value in technology, power, quality?
dian...New vehicles are already too expensive. We don't need politicians forcing up prices.
art....I'm lucky enough to live in a very walkable neighborhood. I haven't owned a car since 2006.
smad...I don’t by imports! Buy American

Should the government invest more heavily in automation to reduce reliance on human air traffic controllers?

  • 52% No, human judgment is still essential
  • 48% Yes, automation can improve safety

EmailComments
atli...I would support more automation if it were not purchased as a result of the conflict of interest and reduced oversight presented by Elon Musk
rsle...Automation? You mean like the "safety" of Elon Musk self driving cars? NO THANK YOU
bret...Upgrading systems is generally a great investment. Automation might make sense if the technology is adequate. No government spending should be with a Musk company. Conflicts of interest are too high.
cica...How about Both - And? Why are the questions always binary and polar opposites? Yes, we need more human beings and we need more automation doing appropriate aspects of each job
jllm...It has to be both for it to be the best.
suza...Both are necessary
srcl...Automation is not100%
rayn...Both could benefit the efficiency and safety of air traffic.
ttim...Feel training is sub par and candidates are. Not as qualified as in the past.
nata...Both. Automation could serve as a back up.
carl...Human judgment is essential but also upgraded technology is also essential
jame...The potential for catastrophic failure or sabotage if all in the hands of automation is extreme.
ham3...We need automation that can be monitored. Machines are more reliable than humans.
zack...Automation could have easily prevented the DC crash for example. The future is here, automation will play a massive role in aviation safety, especially at the ATC level.
robs...My biggest takeaway here is that Boeing is so large and has been struggling so much to build safe jets that our bureaucratic federal government is having to become more involved with a for-profit publicly traded company to help them figure out how to build safe jets. This is a national security concern and an embarrassment for Made in the U.S.A. manufacturing! YOU HAD ONE JOB!
kold...Just because there is an increase in automation does not mean that human judgment is going to go away.
kell...It’s a bit too early. We need years worth of research and simulations before real world implementation.
lw63...I’m happy too that my thoughts are in the majority. Not to say automation is wrong, but at the end of the day humans are responsible for these automated products and that’s where common sense and good judgment must prevail.
mdul...I've been a pilot for more than 20 years with the highest level of pilot certificate in the USA (and world). The situations that controllers deal with everyday are not yet ripe for automation. Also, there is an expression in aviation that people should know - "When the pilot makes a mistake, the pilot dies. When a controller makes a mistake, the pilot dies." ATC is not some AI playground where you get do keep testing your algorithm to see how it's doing.
cand...If the automation is effective it might be able to help with safety. Of course human judgment will still be required but perhaps the number of people might be able to be reduced.
exmx...Old news
hgde...Both have flaws but human judgement with sufficient data is still the best solution.
cmes...Obviously you don't have any pilots on here
tubi...here is an area where AI would be of great assistance if used properly.
tomg...As long as it can't be hacked

Should the U.S. be willing to reduce tariffs in exchange for securing a domestic buyer for TikTok?

  • 64% No, tariffs and tech should remain separate
  • 30% Yes, if it protects national data
  • 6% Other

EmailComments
tomg...Tariffs are being abused by Trump
jllm...Another specific business deal that tariffs got in the way. Tariffs, tariffs, tariffs, I don’t care who it affects, unless it’s me, then no tariffs. Where’s my Tesla?
lw63...I just do not know about this whole thing.
bret...Cancel tariffs immediately. Tariffs are always destructive.
serg...Tik tok contributes little to the US economy
pvol...This is NOT a negotiation, this is either SELL to a buyer of US approval or close. This is the beginning of a demand request from the US, and a start to a negotiation. Same as the Biden administration.
tomw...Fuck tik tok.
ebr....Delete TikTok. Don’t buy into it. Don’t open an account. Delete the app. Take away the demand.
jrom...Tariffs are a tool to drive outcomes the President would like to see. I don't know if I support the TikTok tradeoff so much, but I do support the negotiation of tariffs as an offset to get something that is good for the country. You don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate.
nstr...We don’t need TicTok. It once was domestic, Musiclly (sp?). This kind of tech is not good for anything besides isolating people from each other and making it easier to indoctrinate our children with ideas that are dangerous and separate the family bonds.
cmic...If there is a sale, it's likely to be someone who supports and donates to Trump. Kleptocracy is the new norm.
robe...Tariffs and tech should be separate, but national security must come first.
ndej...The world will adjust to tariff. Integrating economies is the way to go.
srcl...I am conflicted...on one hand national security should be top priority and on the other tariffs and tech should be separated. But I don't believe Trump cares about our national security since he has continued to put into place unqualified people.
hgde...Apples and oranges
andr...Other: these two policies should be unrelated.

Do you currently use Robinhood or have an account with a fintech platform (e.g., SoFi, Wealthfront, Public)?

  • 79% No
  • 21% Yes

EmailComments
ttim...I feel they are not reliable and operate on an emotional basis .
lw63...To me Robinhood is a scary proposition
mrjo...I do, but I don't trust them after the shady stuff they did during the pandemic.
jllm...The older you get, the smarter, take less chances, history is a great motivator and Robinhood is for young at heart. I’ll stick with tried and true

Should gun kits that can be assembled into functioning firearms be regulated the same way as fully manufactured guns?

  • 95% Yes
  • 5% No

EmailComments
atli...All guns should be regulated and in the case of high powered automatics, completely eliminated
lawe...Guns kill. Guns are made from parts. Whether those parts are made and assembled in a factory OR purchased separately before being assembled is like having different ways of saying pOtAtOE or pOtatoe. A gun kit gets assembled to form something that kills. We need regulation for all forms of guns.
serg...Guns are a problem already. Ghost guns would be crime enabling
jllm...What I can’t believe is that the vote was 7/2, if you needed ant proof that a Supreme Court Justice could be bought here it is.
srcl...Why wouldn't they be if they can kill just as easily as a normal gun.
cica...You see the answer in the poll results above. Most Americans want some form of gun control. This is democracy. Unfortunately our democracy, it’s the tail wagging the dog. A small minority of Americans, including a minority of gun owners are the only ones who don’t want better regulation. The slaughter has to stop.
lw63...Absolutely: nothing more to say in this!
jim8...I made a mistake and would like to change my answer.
jmic...The production of “Ghost Guns” is an obvious attempt to circumvent regulations and should absolutely be required to follow the same requirements as any other gun.
fcse...They are more likely to be used for crime.
mbul...Duh! The definition of a gun doesn’t change depending on who pus the pieces together. Thomas’s argument would be thrown out by a 5 yr old. Yet here we are, forced to listen to drivel from SC Justices.
cbvi...Get the guns... we have more guns than people!
tomg...Anything to help with gun control is good
bret...Common sense gun laws are desperately needed
susa...Many crimes are committed with these ghost gun.
mrjo...It's our constitutional right to manufacture firearms for personal use.
cand...If, when completed, the kit gun is a fully functioning gun then it should be regulated as a gun. It can be used just like any manufactured gun therefore it is a gun and need to follow any regulations set for guns.
tubi...yes but it wont matter. the proverbial "pandoras box" has been opened.
cjma...All guns should be regulated regardless of their nature
kold...Yes. It should also be noted that these gun kits are for guns designed from the ground up to kill people, not to shoot targets or kill game animals. It should be regulated even more than the latter types of guns.
ndej...This is a ridiculous question.
nata...Guns are guns. We don’t need them.

Would you consider regularly boiling and filtering your water if it reduced microplastic exposure?

  • 66% Yes
  • 34% No

EmailComments
mpda...That's what we have our water companies for - it's their responsibility to assure the purity of our water.
vick...If this process works then water Management utilities, in home water systems and hot water tanks should be made to do the job
cica...We need a long-term solution. If there’s this much micro plastic in our environment now. 100 years into the plastics industry. What’s it gonna be like in another 30 to 50 to 200 years?
anna...Not clear what the dangers are yet - just because this issue is getting coverage does not mean it is the most significant environmental or health risk we face. Boiling water carries its own risks of burns - especially for small children. I am not kidding
jllm...Boiling no, filtering yes, I’ll put that on my list to install, if this keeps up maybe I’ll use more than 10% of my brain.
ebr....No. We’ve had a whole house water softener and filtering system for 20 years so the plastics and lead are already gone.
trdy...I would do only one or the other, but not both.
tomg...We need substitutes to throw away plastic.
robe...Let's be honest. Are people really going to boil water or just say so, because it's the right thing to do. It's like recycling, we know we're supposed to do it, but most don't.
serg...Cancer is a bitch
roos...I'm too old to worry about microplastics. And we all have it and what diseases are linked to having microplastics in our system??
robs...Asking consumers in the 21st Century to turn drinking water into a time consuming science project is a no go.
tubi...ive been filtering my drinking water for years, perhaps decades, though getting them with specific microplastic filtering wasnt a thing until the last few years. in the early 90's, the EPA allowed the fracking industry to use chemicals that create residual PFA's, thus i started filtering my water.
cand...This was a bit confusing. The article states that microplastics can be removed from the water by boiling and then filtering water but also states that the microplastics that are causing problems come from packaging and personal care items. Are those microplastics then getting in the water or are they affecting us directly?
phol...Calcium carbonate (caco3) is effectively mica dust similar to school chalk (magnesium carbonate) Boiling plastics will if anything, migrate more additives since most typical plastics have a 160-170deg heat distortion temp. They will not bond with the inert calcium dust.
darr...This would have to be a large scale operation. My family of 6 would require us to boil many stock pots of water a day. That would be a lot of energy use and where would we keep it? This is great progress, I just don't think it scales at the individual level
ham3...Our food and water sources are killing us. WTF!
lw63...If it comes to that absolutely. So much is unknown about these microplastics except the health effects. Whatever can be done to mitigate that I would be all for it
lawe...If boiling water significantly reduces microplastic exposure, it would be a hassle worth doing.
dest...That's too cumbersome to be realistically doable
srcl...I am too old to worry about this this late in life, but if I were younger I would consider it.
