Just facts, you think for yourself

In cases like this, is it more important to focus on improving mental health support or on tightening campus security measures?

  • 50% Campus security
  • 36% Mental health support
  • 14% Other

pris...Campus Security first and in place like it should have been at Brown and ongoing Mental health support. But immigration granting is VIP. How did this guy get into the country? Stricter immigration laws and vetting.
nanc...Both!
susa...Good mental heath awareness and programs frees everyone to live normally.
hart...People probably wouldn't have died or been injured if one of the wealthiest schools in the country had improved security to protect it's students, instead of spending money on DEI and woke issues.
ocds...It's gun control, you idiot.
derr...Both
bjef...The sad truth is that is someone has decided to commit suicide and they want to take someone with them, with the present laws, some even encouraging people to walk around with guns, then you can't stop someone from committing mass mayhem, no matter how secure you make a campus, building, etc. Even if you do fix a collage campus, then they'll turn to a soft target, like a beach, a park, a nursery. They want to die and kill a lot of others for perceived wrongs. Just how do you stop that by "security" unless you turn the world into a prison and..surprise..catch them all with weapons before they can use them. Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to eliminate the weapons and save all the money and lives?
spro...Why choose? We need both!
aunt...mental health support needs to be available but people need to accept they have an issue AND SEEK HELP. Campus security also needs improvement - maybe more CCTV?
dean...both should be improved on. Not one without the other.
robb...Hire competent people to run the institution, city and campus. They all looked so surprised something like this can happen in Rhode Island. The President may be very smart, but she seems clueless about tackling problems.
miah...We protect lawmakers, but not schools… don’t you love the people making the laws?
lill...IMO. This was a hit paid for by energy conglomerates who don't want real clean energy to interrupt their investments. Otherwise, a society that intentionally produces emotional broken people will not be fixed till the education & FOOD system are fixed. The brain needs vitamins and cholesterol to function properly.
tomm...People that are mentally unstable should be locked away to protect society as a whole— the greater good comes before individual feelings
mija...You have to go to the root of the cause. And gun control.
wlof...Not every crime is preventable. It seems this one has long term roots from far away. This guy was exactly the type of lawful permanent resident the POTUS wants and still it happened.
bsmi...Both
sept...Gun control
lew....both are needed to move the needle in a positive direction
rise...We don't know about mental health issues with this specific case.
hemb...Both equally
shan...Are you dumb? We need gun control he should never have had access to weapons
devi...Both! Also gun control.
john...gun controls
rick...Need both.
kelt...This case was a case of political execution, not some whacko
walk...Both probably. Hard to defend against a mad man in an open society
wmes...How about both mental health support and campus security receive upgrades?
cynt...Gun control
robe...Both
caro...Gun control, please.
jjka...Better campus security might keep things from happening certainly might help solve crime. Mental health support for who? The crazy people running around committing crimes / getting involved with conspiracies certainly need help and maybe identifying and treating them would make our world safer, Treating the students after is the least of our problems here
ende...Both go hand in hand
boba...You need both to really make a difference
atli...Close US weapons manufacturers.
alic...Really, both.
perm...Not everyone wants help or can be helped.
mary...Gun control.
cath...better screening for buying a weapon.
jmla...Enhanced security has rarely stopped a deranged, mentally disturbed attacker from reaching and destroying his target, e.g., Donald Trump and his quest to destroy America as we knew it!
mage...Mental health problems are hard to control and manage, evidence the Rob Reiner tragedy.
judy...It seems a great number of these shooters are "former" students. Not sure the best way to reach them as they are likely loners
tedt...It’s not either or
pegg...Both!
mark...BOTH?
fcse...Improving mental health and improving campus security are not an either/or. Counseling and policing are both needed to help individuals and protect the community.
alec...The MIT killing sounds like a crime of passion and the two incidents sound very well planned. We can't stop people from wanting to do bad things to other people but we can control their access to how they do it. Gun control is the answer. Not hand ringing about how we can make campuses safer.
jkdi...Schools have enough money to hire more security to keep their student safe. They all get money from state or federal.
suzc...Both need improvement and BETTER GUN CONTROL IS A MUST!!!!!!!!
jvan...BOTH
mega...Pop culture spews hate which contributes to the problem. We have all the mental health resources imaginable , it’s pop culture who is the problem.
nanc...they both have to happen at the same time
dmis...This is stupid, the answer is both, one does not affect the other. Both are equally important.
jamf...Mental Health?? This is terrorism in the US and it is rampant! We need to protect our children
evel...Mental health support is campus security.
bria...I doubt if a mental health intervention would have prevented this incident.
aola...It’s the guns.
lmar...Guns!
sksh...For heavens sakes, why not both equally!
lkdn...Both
luke...We’ve already tried more security and more guns. It isn’t working so we gotta look somewhere else.
brid...GUNS

Is it justified for Belgium to block the use of frozen Russian assets due to fear of retaliation and legal risks?

  • 56% No
  • 32% Yes
  • 12% Unsure

rhal...Considering the lack of US support shown to Ukraine, Belgium has a reasonable reason to block it.
bjef...Putin declared war. It's on him.
chas...Fuck Putin. Give the money to Ukraine. It’s past time.
spro...Russia lost all legal rights. Take their assets, sanction their oil and make them pay using any means necessary.
jame...At some point countries, like individuals, have to do the morally right thing, damm the consequences
schi...Absolutely. The EU will lose lawsuit.
nanc...Seems cowardly. If Ukraine loses the war, Belgium will have a lot more to worry about.
hine...Belgium is probably using those frozen funds to back up loans they have taken out and can’t repay so they don’t want them used by others. They should be investigated by the EU or by the UN.
rich...They should realize that as home of EU offices, they will be a target of the Kremlin in any case. They need Ukraine to win this war just as much as the E Europe members
pris...The best way to stop this Russian agression is in the pocketbook.
lama...Russia has seized assets of many countries and people who worked there. They have not paid a cent for these seizures. They also started this war and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity.
devi...Belgium’s choice, like its colonial history, continues to prove they prefer profit over people.
kvas...Stand up to fascists - both foreign and domestic.
mona...Is Belgium gaining interest from the money they are holding? Perhaps the Ukraine can receive the dividends and wait to utilize these funds until a solution is agreed upon.

Do you feel that inflation is easing in your personal situation?

  • 80% No
  • 19% Yes

buck...Inflation only reflects the rate at which prices have raised. It is not necessarily a good reflection of the cost of living. Yes fuel can go up and down fluidly. However, the cost of various goods rose under Biden, for instance steel and aluminum. In addition minimum wages rose and workers both white collar and blue sought wage increases to deal with the fast rising cost of living. Auto makers and others cannot lower their product cost, because these costs are locked. (They can layoff) Trump did not help with tariffs, though it would be good to level the tariff field.
jimm...It’s all artificially constructed. I just paid under $4.00 for gasoline at Christmas in California. It will be over $5.00 after Jan 1. Taxes are inflation.
maso...The government's figures on inflation cannot be correct. I really think they are lying. Well okay, gasoline is cheap, that might affect the number, but grocery prices are ridiculous!
spro...Filled my tank for $40 last week. Obama care and high interest rates are the reason ends are hard to meet. All on you lefty’s. You caused the affordability issue just to campaign on fixing it. Classic democrat playbook, no solutions while our lying media covers for you.
kfer...Government reports do not jive.
marv...electric and natural gas prices are too high. Food prices especially meat prices are too high also.
nanc...Though the price of gas is down, food prices continue to climb and just about everything I’ve purchased for Christmas gifts, even those made in the U.S.
camc...The inflation number was influenced by the shutdown, wait til next month
mona...The consumer is being nickel and dimed at every turn. Just heard big retailers are going to charge a fee on returned items, not just electronics which has had restocking fees but Walmart, Target etc. Manufacturers are keeping prices and reducing content or reducing and increasing prices. There is no relief.
davi...Everything is going up by more than 2.7%!
mcmi...Utilities, food and insurance are definitely going up more than 3%!
lisa...Impeach, remove and jail the felon.
cath...grocery prices are still high. Automobiles are ridiculous and housing costs and medical costs are out of reach. I think the Trump administration is cherry picking data.
popp...I’m getting a raise on my social security check and they are taking more back out of my Medicare so I’ll make less to start 2026. One step forward two steps back. Medicare is not free!
bfph...Most people that say NO are likely Trump haters and will never say YES to this question, no matter what. That’s why polls like this are meaningless
erne...Groceries are high Insurance for cars and houses are high
hine...Fuel costs have come down and prices in the grocery stores have come down.
mike...Inflation is real.
kvas...Which year was it that inflation didn't occur? Hello? Anybody there?
evel...Food costs, utilities & helthcare continue to rise, while my income stays the same.
crai...Food is the remaining challenge. Fuel, energy, electronics, are down. Christmas shopping for toys is about the same as last year. Personally my natural gas and electric bills were cut in half when I moved from NY to FL.
nich...$8 a pound for ground beef and $8 for a gallon of bleach do not suggest inflation easing.
pris...I see it at the supermarket (Walmart) and at the gas pump.
bjef...Yes, but it's a myth. First I don't trust anything out of Washington now that a certain individual has removed all unbiased people. Second, prices are down in things like airfare because no one can afford to travel so the prices are coming down because those companies are going to go bankrupt if they don't do something. The economy is shaking because spending, not just discretionary, but necessary is declining. It's a recipe for disaster. So inflation is down, but that's not necessarily good. The only way it's good is when it's down because there are increased expenses for no reason, sort of like, uh, tariffs!
pman...Not at all - we are about to cancel many subscriptions and other non essential purchases just to stay ahead of debt building
swjo...Gas is around 2.00 per gallon most days, some groceries are easing. At least prices are not going up like they were 3-4 years ago!
spr....Go to a restaurant or buy beef….look at medical premiums. My net SS check is lower in 2026 even with an inflation adjustment Vs 2025.
kelt...Gas prices are way down, many food prices are down, the stock market is way up. I guess if your milking government programs you may feel it
pkie...My rent in CA is being raised by 10% (the full extent of regulatory caps) and I'm finding airfares for even economy flights that I take regularly are up 30%.
bren...Don’t confuse already high prices with inflation. We won’t have deflation and that’s why people feel inflation is still high. But the prices were already sky-high from the previous administration. Inflation is way down! Thank you President Trump!!

Do you believe the majority American ownership of the new TikTok US joint venture will significantly reduce national security risks?

  • 62% No
  • 25% Yes
  • 13% Unsure

atli...National Security risks could be eliminated if the US recognizes its responsibility for having created national security risks for other countries
elin...Mistaken question. There is no majority American ownership. ByteDance and affiliates own 50%.
nrpe...All this did was to make trump fill his pockets.
jim8...I voted no because of what the US companies are going to do with the data. I believe they will use it to spy on US individuals. CIA (Palantir), NSA.
creo...You can’t stop a chimiman from stealing
walk...Probably as much as any other media, which really means, No
deca...It was all about money!!!!!! America always has to stick their fingers in the cookie jar.
step...Im sure I don’t understand the risks
elli...another case of Trump disregarding the law and rewarding his billionaire buds
nanc...It’s a fool’s bet…
bjef...The major security risk in the country is the person who couldn't secure a door lock running the country who is openly siding with our enemies.
bhad...Does anyone really trust the Trump administration to protect American security? How much did he make in this deal?

How do you feel about reclassifying marijuana as a scheduled III class drug?

  • 73% Positive
  • 23% Negative
  • 4% Other

elin...Research is very important.
john...I want more research done on marijuana usage. I use gummies for sleep but what are they doing in my body? Are they safe for daily consumption?
jim8...Make sure you wonder how much money the Trump administration will receive for approving marijuana use federal thanks
brli...Your article incorrectly states that marijuana is now a class 2 controlled substance and in the same class as Tylenol with codeine - I hope reliance on AI isn’t to blame… Schedule 2 controlled substances include amphetamines, morphine, fentanyl (if you want to grab general public’s attention), and many other medications. Tylenol with codeine is a schedule 3, I believe just straight codeine with no Tylenol is a schedule 2. These also vary by state but probably best to consult the controlled substance act for the federal schedule list. Keep up the good work, but in this climate of misinformation, accuracy is paramount to maintaining trust of readers on topics where we aren’t experts. It makes me ponder the other things I haven’t fact checked. I do appreciate you providing citations but the fact-checked buck has to stop somewhere in online media. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk!
perm...It’s important to perform thorough research on the benefits and risks associated with marijuana, for medicinal purposes. It should not be legal for recreational use, particularly without better understanding of its cognitive impact.
spro...Far less harmful than alcohol
step...Positive only if it doesn’t result in further recreational use. san Francisco an Los Angeles are very sad now (from an Aussie who has been travelling back and forth for over 30 years
cath...I live in Colorado where pot is legal but old classification made research impossible
atli...Next step is to direct all tax advantage to addiction treatments.
bjef...Having seen patients stroke from Marijuana related vasospasm I can't say that making it easier is necessarily going to make things better. Remember, at one time people though smoking cured all, after that, some people walked around with radioactive material before they realized what it could do. Marijuana basically is now the wonder drug of all time, just like wine and hashish in ancient time. We all know how that has eventually played out. So I look at it with a jaundiced eye.
mage...Legalized Marijuana is more lethal than ever. Teens and even younger kids can access Marijuana easier than ever before. This is a slippery slope

After knowing tanning bed use can genetically age skin decades faster, would you reconsider using tanning beds?

  • 52% I don’t use tanning beds
  • 31% No
  • 18% Yes

EmailComments
klum...We all know at LEAST 1/3 of the population are irresponsible idiots!!!
bjef...No, because I never used tanning beds. Way back in medical school we already knew of the negative effects of tanning. One needs just 15 minutes of exposure to sunlight a day to get a maximal tan. Getting a sunburn and then turning "tan" is like throwing red meat on the grill and it turns dark brown. You're cooking not tanning. Increase melanin means more possibility of melanoma because more melanocytes. Pretty basic stuff.
mfst...Tanning beds should be banned.
aunt...Getting a "tan" IS SKIN DAMAGE
