Just facts, you think for yourself

If the Supreme Court rules the tariffs unlawful, should companies automatically get refunds for tariffs already paid?

  • 68% Yes
  • 23% No
  • 10% Depends

EmailComments
anav...Provided that they have not passed those cost to consumers.
elbe...My answer is yes, but they most likely passed this on to their customers. If the companies get a refund they should be required to discount annual memberships by the amount they receive.
mrie...Yes, as an importer we have experienced a cash flow hardship and a lower profit margin as a result of the tariffs. It has accelerated a decline in sales and puts smaller businesses at a disadvantage to larger businesses that can afford to operate at a loss.
cger...Progressive Leftist would like for nothing better than for America to fail, That way they can institute communism , Government control over all production dictating their will upon the American people.
lora...The Supreme Court should approve tariffs. This is a good thing for American businesses and also for the American people. We should not be subsidizing foreign businesses especially the US paying tariffs and VAT taxes on other countries.
geof...If you’re found out to have cheated someone out of money, do you owe the money back? YES, OF COURSE!!
rmac...Will these companies refund the increase they charged to consumers?
mrmo...As long as Cosco and others reimberse customers that had to pay extra
gina...No, these companies passed on the increases to their customers already.
edde...Fuck trump
bdpe...Illegal acts should be punished
nanc...There has to be accountability when you think you are king and come up with these half-baked ideas.
atli...Tariffs should be entirely eliminated world wide to assure economic benefits.
kvas...Of course they should get refunds. What's the alternative? Orange Comb-Over Boy keeps the money? If they don't get a refund, then the extortion worked. A lawsuit to declare the illegal tariffs illegal one and for all would be an empty victory.
c.un...We, as citizens, do not receive refunds when the government passes charges, taxes, or fees to us.
alys...Who ultimately paid the tariffs? Consumers. It’s not like the company would give the money back to the people that shopped with them.
mari...If the tariffs are unlawful and they are impacting negatively on the company’s ability to employ and compensate their workers or provide their services to their consumers then perhaps exploring refunds as an option seems appropriate. I’d like to learn more about this topic and have more information.
evel...If it's determined that the tariffs are unlawful, that means the gov't took money from these companies illegally and they are entitled to a refund as well as punitive damages.
ginn...Are they passing savings back to consumers who paid higher prices ??
meho...There should be some consequence for Trump's irresponsible actions.
bake...I think it depends. If they’re able to prove that the cost wasn’t passed onto their consumers, then they should get a refund. Otherwise, they should only qualify for a refund in the event that they have a clear plan to reimburse consumers (with sales, price drops, or direct refunds). If they increased prices as a result of tariffs and don’t plan to share the refund with their consumers, AND plan to decrease cost to consumers again, then they shouldn’t receive a refund.
namk...The consumers paid the tariff when they purchased the goods. They should get a refund. It didn’t keep Costco from selling the items involved and they raised the prices to account for the tariff
bjef...If the companies did not raise prices, then they should get the refunds because they lost that money. If they did raise prices, then they shouldn't get the refund as they passed it on to consumers. No way, of course to refund all those small purchases so the taxpayers get screwed once and, if the companies were automatically given a massive cash payment where they can't refund, then the taxpayers then get screwed twice by paying the companies back. So, they shouldn't get automatic payments unless they are forced to lower their prices immediately to pay their customers back or they never raised prices on their customers.
step...The consumer should be paid back
trag...If companies paid an illegal tariff they should be entitled to a refund
matt...Depends. If the company absorbed the cost of the tariff then yes. If the company raised prices to pass on the cost to the consumer then the American people deserve a refund.
ljam...Commander in chief
dels...But what about the portion that was passed on to consumers?
popp...Someone should pay right? Will big businesses share the Wealth? Hmmm
ades...Trump is supremely stupid but power hungry and greedy and dead at on breaking laws. A horrible combination.
wbon...Tariffs create hardships not only for companies but also for the consumers.
lvca...Actions have consequences. But, if they passed these on to consumers, they need to find a way to make up for that.
patr...If the company gets refunds for their “projected loss” then that money should be paid right to the consumer not the companies that have adjusted their prices for the loss already!
matt...If they passed those costs on to the consumer, they should not get any money back
baxt...Consumers have already paid higher prices
stev...We should not reward "bad behavior" in this Administration.
chri...Unauthorized taxes shouldn't be enforced. If they want the money, get Congress to say so.
cgva...If they can prove they purchased goods. There needs to be some fraud protection for the taxpayers.
elis...Juris doctrines and juris precedents no apply retroactive principle in benefit of citizens in case of taxes
lmei...Those costs have been passed through to consumers.
derr...Apply it directly to reduce the deficit!
sksh...Companies raise their prices and us consumers pay for the tariffs ~ WE the people should be reimbursed for extra expenditures before any businesses
andy...If and only if Costco refunds the tariffs collected on the products purchased by customers
choi...The customers should get refund somehow as well. Usually company must charge to their customers in anyways.
rita...Only if the companies in turn refund their customers whom they passed the costs on to….
mich...Consumers should also get refunds
mart...They were collected illegally so it's a mess this administration caused. They need to clean up the mess. Companies who passed on the cost to consumers should be required to refund those customers as well. What a mess.
dust...Absolutely the money was collected it does not belong to the government if ruled unlawful.
lew9...Just like the administration rushed into a wreckless tariff program they should pay back because we all paid dearly at the grocery stores .
katz...It would never happen as it is too messy administratively, and the consumer, who ultimatley paid them gets nothing. Move forward without the tariffs and lower prices back to pre-tariff prices and hope to recover the losses.
agui...The consumer should get refunds as well.
rjre...Yes, only if those refunds are given to consumers directly and immediately!
jcql...Are they going to pass those refunds to consumers?
theg...These stores have no business interfering with the world deals made by our administration. If they Start buying and selling American products that will help America. They must Stop supporting forghen countries!
pete...It’s pretty simple really. If the tariffs were illegal then the money was not taken legally.
tmne...Cost to administer refunds will be massive. Retailers and manufacturers benefit twice, because they’ve already at least partially offset supply chain costs with price. And consumers get hit twice because even if tariffs are rolled back, sellers will try to maximize profit- prices will stay high as long as competitors are all benefiting from a rollback and refund. Even as competition for share starts to drive prices back down, they are unlikely to deflate below pre-policy levels. Consumers have been harmed more than retailers
ames...The people of this country voted in this Bozo and should have to suffer the consequences of his ill conceived and illegal policies!
kind...Unless they also plan to reimburse their consumers which I doubt they plan to do. They should be reimbursed for all legal fees incurred as a result of the illegal tariff policy.
deri......but then the customer should also get a refund. How would that work?
tire...They stand to make more after the tariffs do the job that they are supposed to do.
john...I don't see how that could ever work and might open the whole thing to more scamming
bell...Are the refunds going to be push down to thier customers that paid higher prices to cover the tariffs?
anca...How would those companies refund the customers which were actually the people who paid for the tariffs ?
mend...Hi person, I think the money should go to the public that ultimately pays the tariffs
kath...If the tariff was passed on to the consumer, do they get a refund? Nope!
eaba...Refunds should go to the customers.
eydi...I’m naive here… but couldn’t they just sell the product?
kelt...Costco is one of the most profitable companies in the world. Their greed could be put aside for 6 months of adjustment in the support of america
berw...Companies increased prices to compensate for the tariffs. They should not be reimbursed for the tariffs that their customers paid.
megi...If they already charged the client for the tariff, and they are planning on refunding the client, then yes they Should get refunded. If they got the tariff money from customers but don't plan on refunding customers, then no, because they didn't incur any financial loss
rmtr...Consumers should get the refunds, since in all likelihood companies have recouped the tariffs by charging customers more.
blue...Costco has clearly passed the rising ‘tariff’ related costs on to ‘we the customers’. I they better be prepared to prove me wrong if they do, in fact, get reimbursed.
doct...We are paying for the evil deeds of an evil man
mjru...Depends on if they are looking to give money back to customers because the price hikes were just passed to the consumer.
capt...only if they are going to refund the customers
dml3...Corporations can absorb it because the tariffs were in place to in the end help the American people financially and to pay down our debt
dwig...I feel the tariffs should stay in place . There has been an in- balance too long, America receiving the short end economically on tariffs is unfair and President Trump is fighting for America !!🇺🇸🙏🙏 Make America Great Again !!🇺🇸🙏🙏
bevd...Only if they can prove the exact amount of money they paid specifically related to tariffs.
pldm...Is Costco rebate that money back to its customers to cover the increase in price Costco implemented due to the tarrifs?
pete...It's not the companies fault if the tariffs are illegal, and they should not have to pay for governent mistakes.
shah...Consumers should also get refunds, because tariff costs were passed on to them
bran...Retailers increased prices to cover tariffs passing the cost to customers. Will all customers receive refunds for the price increases paid? Have retailers lowered prices to pre tariff levels? It doesn’t make sense for the retailers to just get a refund if the other things don’t happen.
davi...Costco has done an amazing job keeping prices in check. The government has done nothing to stop this lunatic.
mcsp...If they are American companies, yes, if they are foreign companies no… For instance, yes for Costco no for Kawasaki
paul...Money collected under an unlawful tax scheme must be returned, with interest from date of payment. This isn't a mistaken amount, this is an unlawful amount. Every company must have its money returned, otherwise, the government is allowed to steal companies' money without consequence.
perr...Companies will not pass on the refunds to Consumers.
koch...My question is, and I think I already know the answer: are these companies going to proportionally share with the consumers these refunds. We have paid for these tariffs as consumers, but I don't expect the retailers to provide refunds to us without Class Action Lawsuits.
andy...Trump should pay it himself. From the billions he’s made from being a so called leader of the free world. With interest
jepu...If tariffs are ruled UNLAWFUL then the money paid ("the tariff) is lawfully due back to the company that paid it.
dero...I feel like if the company is going to give it back to the consumer who actually paid higher prices due to the tariffs then yes but otherwise no.
jste...Trump is a criminal
hast...If they did not pass on the tariff costs to their customers, yes. If they did pass on the costs, then to that extent, no!
cica...Targeted tariffs, tariffs with a specific reason and purpose, tactical tariffs as part of a larger strategy, these are tariffs that do have a valid use. But this entire administrations scatter shot canister tariffs sprayed all over the world at virtually. Everyone are senseless and stupid.
brya...All the tariffs are passed down to the consumer. Individual taxpayers should get the refund
lang...If it’s ruled illegal then of course the $ shld be refunded to the companies/people that paid tariffs. That’s restitution for illegal gains accrued by the perpetrator, Donald Trump/US Customs. I don’t care if he has to ask his new friend in Argentina for the $40 billion he just sent him
tchr...Customers of Wholesale Clubs like Costco and Sams are considered members. Why wouldnt their members be entitled to the refunds?
avaa...It is illegal and damaging the US
tarp...If there illegal then those companies should get a refund
beas...We need to hold the federal government accountable for unlawful acts. If the Supreme Court rules the tariffs are unlawful, giving refunds would be necessary, but insufficient - someone(s) should be held accountable for this illegal and very damaging policy.
akrc...Absolutely and if those costs were passed on to consumers they are the ones who should receive a refund as well
brya...Will consumers automatically get refunds for the higher cost of goods due to tariffs?
paci...My conclusion is, we’re all paying for the tariffs that Trump has put into play if the big companies are suing and want money back then all of us should have our money back from the costs of inflation and groceries and gas and everything you buy my expenses in our Home went up 30%
andr...Will that savings be available to the consumers?
ksdb...Tariffs are for the people, not corporations.
ljob...Will consumers get reimbursed?
pman...Then they should reduce prices to show trump tariffs prices increase with them - and we should benefit from lowered food costs and other items that these idiots employed -
gold...I will cease shopping at this companies that are trying to interfere with President Trump’s right-sizing of government and our economy. Thank you for the list.
cind...Depends upon whether the retailer sold the item and passed on tariff cost to ultimate consumer.
fran...Yes. Because they were unlawful
tjac...
jimd...No… should belong to the people not going to Corporate America..
stev...They passed the higher costs on to consumers already....
jkos...As the" right wing frequently says (even when not true): "common sense".
pksw...When the lower court first determined that the tarrifs were illegal they should have stopped collecting them. That would have minimized this nightmare scenario of having to refund so many taxpayers.
mark...These tariffs are a direct stealing of Americans' money. It has nothing to do with foreign products taking away business from Americans. These are American products produced by American companies for sales in America. It is just that these American companies set up production in foreign lands. And they only did that because of American Government rules that made it more profitable.
lmpc...These tarrifs are a huge mistake and we are all paying more for almost everything.
jdm....If companies receive relief so should the consumers!!!
john...Depends on (a).whether the companies passed on, in whole or in part, the tariffs to consumers, and (b) coukd and would be required to refund the price increases to consumers.
kold...America has been victimized. Victims deserve restitution.
curb...How will Costco pay back a consumers if they received their refund?
dste...Trump's whacky moves on tariffs has created great uncertainty in all markets, including sales to the US consumer; time to create certainty in as many sectors as possible.
jabl...Because it would be a double windfall for those company's. Don't tell me they did not raise their prices in lew of those tariffs.
plyn...If companies can profit , no
vonn...Hopefully this will be a much needed civics lesson for corporate America, which is to not put their faith in a moral bankrupt, convicted felon, compulsive lying damn fool.
jrv1...Handouts for public corporations? Costco should spend more time planning a strategy for profitability not how to get money from the government. Ultimately someone has to pay.
bjdi...If “goods”were charged more because of tariffs and it is decided that was unlawful then business should be reimbursed
lynn...If the companies raised prices and consumers paid those higher irises, consumers should be refunded. If companies drop their prices to pre-tariff prices, they should be invented in some way.
cami...No double taxing, no double paying. This is nonsense’s.
thom...The consumer is paying the higher prices because of tariffs. All a refund will do is give big corporations money for tariffs that have already been paid for by the consumer.
sroz...Yes, if the tariffs were considered illegal, they should never have been put into effect, and never have been paid in the first place. However end users were also hurt, and should also be compensated appropriately. But if the Supreme Court rules the tariffs were illegal.
aunt...If 47 ends his tax cuts for billionaires, it should not be an issue
crai...It is only right any consumer paying the imposed tariffs should be the FIRST to receive refunds if the Supreme Court rules the tariffs unlawful. NOT companies first! Small businesses should be SECOND to receive refunds.
marw...No, because , we the people are the final consumers, and have already paid for high prices, and definitely, they won’t refund the consumers.
anki...Yes, If they lower prices to the consumer! If not then no! We the consumers are paying those tariffs!
tere...Impossible bureaucratic nightmare to determine who paid the tariffs- producers, shippers, sellers and buy. Thank you SCOTUS for immunizing President from any personal liability for harm caused. No consequence for illegal conduct
coun...If the Supreme Court rules, it was unlawful for the Trump administration to collect those tariffs, then absolutely yes the tariffs should be refunded to the companies
dora...Opens the door to constant retro active retribution that could harm America and raise taxes
rtst...Consumers should refunded directly
suns...If they passed on the tariff cost to me, they should not get the refund.

Do you think the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book report on declining consumer spending signals a looming recession?

avaa...It will get worse as long as this administration is getting away with corruption and living to American people
chri...It's a cycle. Expansions (good times) are always followed by contractions (recessions). If you haven't see the contraction, just wait.
katz...The Trump administration is doing everything they can to hurl the US into a recession. They don't care about the American people who are struggling financially. The rich and elite will do just fine, which is all they care about.
nanc...It doesn’t look good.
mdul...Conventional wisdom and history would suggest that a recession is on the horizon. However, with the wealthiest 10% of Americans accounting for 50% of all consumer spending, it's possible that group will manage to have us avoid the consequences of such poor economic policies.
shan...Black Friday spending reports also showed less was actually bought, we just spent more because it all costs so much more
trdy...Thank-you Trump.
pete...All the signs point that way.
spro...I never saw this kind of question for years under Biden as he was giving away all our $. What a stupid, negative and leading question. Do better
cger...Based on the kind of spending during Black Friday weekend, it pretty obvious that Americans are not fearful of a recession.
kvas...Comb-Over is intent on destroying the American economy and lining his own pockets. His lock-in-step minions support him even at their own detriment. When will they wake up?
hans...In addition to all the other factors pointing to resession, we're in the midst of an AI bubble in the stock market. Hold on to your britches, we're in for a bumpy ride, which will no doubt be blamed on Democrats when the congress flips.
crai...This is a political recession, triggered deliberately and therefore there willl be no effort to control it as that would be unacceptable to the administration.
aunt...Consumers may be spending more but, they are getting less for their $$
levi...Yes, however any company that becomes eligible for a refund and receives it, must also bare the load of refunding any extra price increase they charged their end consumer to that consumer...
suns...Funny how the internet and news have been telling us we are about to go into a recession for 5 years now.
brad...The stuff in the media is all political. the Media does not want Trump to succeed so they write negative scenarios on the economy. The economy is fine. The only issue that needs to be fixed is healthcare by abolishing ACA immediately and then let insurance companies scramble to get people affordable healthcare.
doct...Just wait until the EU and other countries pull their money out of US treasuries. Worse than bad
lynn...Trump and his administration’s chaos, illegal actions, fear-lingering with ICE kidnapping and other drama is killing the U.S. economy.
jhb1...We’re certainly hurting financially in this household because of inflation. Inflation was coming down, dramatically up until the election last year. November 2024. Then they turned around and started to go back up. Four years into this inflation economy it doesn’t take much of a rise inflation to really cripple us.

REAL ID Fee fair?

shan...We either need them or we don't .pick a lane
vita...And if they’re here illegally hand them over to ice and deport them immediately
perm...There is no reason for anyone to be in non compliance with the Real ID requirement.
ibho...It’s not our fault that in NC you can’t even get appointment at the driver’s license office!
fcse...Paying an extra fee does not provide ID verification. P
mbal...They've had years to get it done.
leea...It's good for individuals to be held accountable to have a current updated ID. The accountability part has been pushed back for many years.
lici...Yes because they should be responsible enough to know that they need a real ID I got mine as soon as it came out in 2023!
jeff...We have known about this for YEARS. No excuse.
dpbu...If you do not make it easy on them to screen you then you have to bear the cost...ID verification costs time and money and it also costs other innocent travelers time and money
levi...Or just refund all the people who paid for RealID the extra cost they had to put forward to get a RealID
rita...We’ve all had oodles of time to get this done…years. Some people put the ‘pro’ in procrastinate :)
alec...The federal government should cover the cost of a person getting a real ID.
crai...I’m of the opinion this additional $45.00 fee is not right, tax dollars are given to government agencies for providing the type of I.D. you are asking about.
suet...There has been plenty of time during the rollout to do something about it. REAL ID should be required for voting as well, to keep Progressive Leftist Democrats from cheating so much.
mcsp...If you’re this selfish or this ignorant not to have a real ID, you probably shouldn’t be allowed to travel anyway. Don’t give me this bullshit that it is 10 to having a national ID system. There should be one and this is it get over it.
pete...This requirement was postponed multiple times. Everyone has had ample warning by now.
rbow...Real IDs are stupid. We have state driver licenses and U.S. Passports. Real IDs simply add more costly IDs and are unnecessarily confusing.
etok...They should be denied boarding. REAL ID has been postponed for many years. Everyone has been aware this would be required. The $45.00 fee is similar to cost of getting a REAL ID. Procrastination should not be an excuse.
aunt...We've ALL been given plenty of time to get a Real ID
kugi...I decided to get REAL ID ages ago when it first came out and the fact that there are still people who don't have it baffles me. This has been in the works for years and years now.
kmju...Until ID is required to vote this is all a joke.
crid...Real ID was introduced in 2005! How has it taken 20 years for people to get onboard and go to the DMV to get this done??!!!
bjef...They should get the damned ID to make the protectionists feel secure. The rest of us shouldn't have to pay for ourselves and then for the continued issues with those who won't get it. On the other hand, the government has to make it so people without transportation, access to old records, etc. have a way to comply.
kvas...Real ID is the first step toward the Gestapo state. Everyone must have papers, must carry their papers with them, and must present the papers to the Gestapo when they're pulled over. TSA hires the scrubs who couldn't pass the police test and settled for being TSA agents instead. These aren't the best and the brightest. So they want all IDs to be uniform in format. It's too hard for them to try to read regular state drivers licenses. So we're all to be hammered into the same mold to accommodate their illiteracy. Here's a solution: start hiring better, more literate TSA agents.
elis...There has been plenty of time to get a new ID. Was no extra fee to do and Cld be done at license renewal.
