djti...Russia will eventually agree to a deal that allows it to keep some Ukrainian territory. Putin will claim victory and since he controls the Russian press, who will object? Gaining a few hundred square miles of territory will have cost the lives of as many as 250,000 soldiers, WW1-level carnage. Ukraine's losses aren't that high, but even one is too high. What's the alternative to a peace deal like this? Countless more casualties on both sides. Maybe Ukraine weakens to the point where Putin puts all his chips in on one decisive strike on Kyiv. If he succeeds, he gets most, if not all, of the country. Will he then move on to new targets, like the Baltic states? That gets NATO directly involved, which means US troops on the front lines. What if Ukraine breaks through and appears on the verge of routing the Russians? Does Putin use nuclear weapons, even smaller tactical warheads, to stave off defeat? A peace deal now seems to be the only way to avoid all of that. Sooner of later, Putin will die or be overthrown. Then the new Russian leadership might be more pragmatic.
mrse...Putin had no incentive to stop the war. The US must show firm resolve on both the military and economic front to make it so painful for Russia that Putin will eventually want peace. Unfortunately Trump has not shown that resolve so the war will grind on.
mdul...I'm shocked that even 4.8% of people (as of now) said Ukraine got more favorable conditions. The 28 point peace plan was a Russian list provided to Trump and his team. Putin has just said that any deviation from his plan (now attributed to Trump) is unacceptable. Ukraine gets precisely nothing from this plan.

The Europeans are too feckless and stupid to run their own countries much less field an army in Ukraine. Eventually they will abandon Ukraine to its fate. Putin knows this and will simply wait them out. Putin also believes that there is zero chance that the US will put troops in Ukraine and can rely on democrats to obstruct any progress by a republican administration to stop the war. Overwhelmingly immigrants are not criminals and although they may be poor they are less likely to commit criminal acts than Americans. Particularly in this case this Afghan man was vetted 3 times. For whatever reason he had mental health issues that caused him to do this horrible act. Vetting is necessary but we shouldn’t demonize immigrants. Most of us had immigrants in our family tree.

Take the accused DC National Guard suspect for instance. He apparently was a trusted ally working closely with the CIA in Afghanistan and was vetted numerous times. With Trump announcing the precise date of withdrawal from Afghanistan, the actual withdrawal was a bloody mess. Those Afghans that worked closely with our military and intelligence forces would have been tortured and executed if we had left them behind. So, we brought him and many others back to the US where Trump then granted him and others asylum. Now, because one human being has done something horrific, we will apparently no longer be receptive to any people from bad places? As I said, if only the world were so easily black & white.

cand...I might be interested but I would like further testing to find out side effects. I believe long term effects should be determined before making this a mainstay vaccine. Would the effects of the vaccine outweigh the benefits? Are there side effects that are worse than the cancers?
