Should social media profiles be required to be public for all visa applicants to improve national security?

  • 53% Yes
  • 42% No
  • 5% Other

EmailComments
sasu...Yes and ongoing monitoring of the visa applicants here in the US. This is majorly having an impact on all American children as well as there are very violent young children who come from some of these countries if you ask any teacher they would agree the families need to be held accountable when here on visas and why their kid knows so much about violent things and threatening the school and people etc. yes they are kids but they are learning at home and this is not the typical American way especially if you are here on visas that is a potential problem.
aunt...The profiles should be available to those doing the vetting but I do not feel they need to be made public
miss...Social media profiles should be reviewed for any anti American, pro terrorist or anti western culture content. If the applicant has in any way held those beliefs or has or has attempted to scrub their profiles their application should be banned forever.
heat...Seems like an invasion of privacy. However, on the flip side, if an applicant is a dangerous person, I guess it will be detected on
lora...Yes, social media is a good tool to determine what a person is or is not. It should be used for background checks on everything including visas
vita...To keep Americans safe. We don’t need more foreigners in our country that wanna hurt us. There are already too many here.
jste...People who are really smart will not have a social media presence
tecj...As an immigrant from Mexico I welcome any screening from the US government. Whether it’s for tourism or work proper vetting is a must.
atli...Just more effort to invade privacy by the security state.
amow...Tells a lot about a person
pcba...we can learn from that
blik...Yes,,,,, I have had it with opening the hatches for people with unAmerican, immoral, ungrateful, anti-Western Civilization ideologies and outright cult mentalities setting up their little enclaves in our Cities. These new "arrivals" are nothing like the century ago "Little Italy", or Germantown, or German Village (Ohio), or Polish neighborhoods, Jewish enclaves, the Amish, or Catholic or Protestant communities.....
cger...One's true self gets exposed where as interviews are always contrived. Look at what's happening in Virginia, as they push Progressive Leftist agenda while running on affordability.
barr...If we adhere to this scenario, Donald Trump would get thrown out of the country and be unable to return. Very subjective standards just like most of what this current administration adheres to.
hall...This is ridiculous
leda...Even though I think highest skills workers are an asset to our country and the economy, knowing who we are allowing into our country should be applied. Therefore, social media profiles allows an insight into the person and their way of thinking.
dora...If you are into establishing an identity on social Media - Then jobs and government and people all should have access
doct...This whole thing is both a scam and a way to enrich billionaires. Nobody should be a billionaire. Too much power with zero accountability. That’s a combination for complete democratic destruction. It’s happening NOW.
esit...Depends on the criteria used. If they are judging how MAGA people are than that should not be allowed.
usct...This is an attack on free speech and free expression. Where does it stop? How soon before Trump is checking the social media of American citizens? Maybe he already is.
robe...They invade your privacy enough including a US spouses already. Bad enough if you are subject to the unrealistic fee.
toge...this country is supposed to have free speech.
bjef...The biggest suppression of truth at the moment is coming from the white house, however, review of public information should be part of the vetting process. That should be pretty evident. But simply because they support something Trump does not, isn't an indication that the applicant is wrong: it actually is probably a good sign that they'd be a good citizen.
jaso...It already isn’t being used for national security but for partisan political reasons!!
isth...The applicants will now scrub their social media platforms so the government still will not know the bad behavior. The government should have just searched the profiles without telling the people. There would have been a better chance at finding poor behavior.
joej...This policy is not about improving National Security. It is about selecting immigrants who will be loyal to Trump and MAGA.
lowr...What happened to freedom of speech in this country?
nico...An opinion is what makes innovation
greg...Sad to say but these profiles are also used when in private sector hiring of Americans. I am amazed that they have not been used in the past.
jaso...In the current age, social media is a large part of individual identities and withholding this critical information could significantly affect the ability to screen potentially dangerous applicants. However; I do think the information evaluated should be strictly constrained to particular threats like hate speech, violent rhetoric, etc; and should not target opposing political or personal views that do not target specific groups or threaten our security.

Is consolidating Treasury Secretary and National Economic Council leader roles beneficial or risky for U.S. economic policy?

  • 77% Risky
  • 18% Beneficial
  • 5% Other

bjef...He's already incompetent in the role he has, why make him more incompetent, unless by giving him so much to do that he can't do anything, then it would be a plus.
john...Don’t try and fix something that isn’t broken
atli...The monopoly infection now goes beyond business to government. The autocracy marches on
barr...Too much concentrated authority in any one field is risky for the future of this country.
lora...This needs to be done to streamline the government and eliminate some government controls. People need to be accountable for their actions and decisions and not rely on the government.
hsto...Consolidation of agencies intentionally created to be unique independent has been done for very important reasons that will just be instantly erased as the Trump family moves to amass money and power under the Trump trust.
susa...Am big on checks and balances—this is too much decision making in one person’s hands.
kjla...Keep politics out of it
usct...If this takes place we will know who to blame for any recession.
joej...Maintaining Fed independence from the Executive branch is critical to ensuring a properly functioning national economy.
cger...Smaller government is ALWAYS better. The Progressive Leftist communist will ALWAYS side with Bigger Government and strive for total government control of EVERYTHING.
pjpa...Bassett is extremely smart & stellar perceptive skills
robe...To much consolidation but especially with this regime - follow the forefathers example distribution of power/authority...
john...Everything this Administration does is risky!!!
mark...Separately, neither can become more important than the other
nanc...With the administration’s lack of qualified personnel, it will only confound the ineptitude. tRump has trouble finding more syncophants to do his bidding, so he just doubles up on their titles, like Marco Rubio.
kvas...The problem is this: Comb-Over doesn't want the best and the brightest around him, because they might get some of the attention that he craves and is unwilling to share. So he chooses the worst and the stupidest. Sadly for him, that pool is just as shallow as it is at the other end. So he has to double up and let some of the worst and the stupidest have more than one job. It is an idiotic management strategy, but what else would we expect from this moron?
petr...Ridiculous idea to do this.
doct...Corrupt is a more accurate description.
chri...Not only it is stupid. Places more power in the hands of a Trump sycophant.
mdul...Trump's regime is focused on authoritarian control of all aspects of government and weaponizing those levers to intimidate political opponents and Americans in general, while enriching himself beyond his wildest hopes. A simple review of all past authoritarian regimes shows that the supreme leader must rely on a very small group of truly trusted loyalists to work as he wishes (and constantly monitor those actions to quickly discern any early signs of disloyalty). Trump has repeatedly consolidated departments under a very small group of those loyalists in this regime. That's all good for the supreme leader's hold on power but bad for the American people. Simply look at Trump's mentor and handler, Putin, who has worked in exactly this way. In so doing, he has become one of the richest men in the world and those of his loyalists that begin to stray find themselves out (and sometimes dead in mysterious circumstances).

In cases like Venezuela, is external pressure from other countries justified to encourage leadership change?

  • 54% Yes
  • 27% No
  • 19% Depends

EmailComments
cger...Maduro is a corrupt drug lord like Noriega was in Panama
shab...It depends on the reason behind wanting a change. If it’s to profit and manipulate for greedy purposes the world should be paying attention and not allow it. If it’s for genuine humanitarian reasons I think it would be beneficial to the whole world. But it’s usually for the first reason.
jaso...Only because it's such an extremely untenable and dire situation for the citiizens of Venezuela and should not include any covert agendas/attempts to wrongly take resources from an independent entity. It's a very slippery slope though, and I do think pressure should cease prior to military direct military intervention unless the target of the political/economic pressure responds with violence first.
hws....Sovereignty, the fundamental principle to choose ones destiny is rooted in the well being of that country. How many countries' have been manipulated to acquiesce to outside economic interests
nrpe...Just buy Maduro out. It’s a lot cheaper than war.
doct...Follow the money. Honest to goodness. The Maduro thing is swapping one evil cartel for another where Trumps skim their cut in billions. Wake up!!!
nanc...Depends on the situation.
crus...Thought that the ideas was "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Perhaps it's "do unto others before they do unto you". Or perhaps it's "might makes right". Which do you want?
bjef...Trump also wants Greenland and Canada and for the same reasons: greenlands resources, Venezuela's oil and Canada's obvious natural resources. I question his motives which are probably there to distract from other issues. Making up a war with a tiny country and pardoning a known drug trafficker is a joke intellectually.
nico...Let each citizenship decide their fate
kvas...Look what happened when Putin exerted external pressure to encourage leadership change in the U.S. We ended up with his bitch, Trump. Be careful what you wish for.
aunt...The US has made serious mistakes in the past
pete...It is yes but only if the US is willing to accept pressure from other countries to encourage change of its own leadership.
gupt...Effective?
tubi...not when its about oil.
lora...WE need to get rid of these drug lordes who poison our people. These dictators also cause a lot of pain for their people.
wolf...How is it a democracy when external Powers dictate the events in the country?

The Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates soon to support the economy. Do you think lowering rates will help the labor market rebound?

  • 60% No
  • 40% Yes

EmailComments
joan...A slightly lower interest rate only helps very large companies and very rich individuals. These companies will not pass on any savings. Yes, it will help the stock market but do very little in lowering housing affordability at the lower end of the spectrum
bjef...They're treating the wrong problem.
janc...The economic sickness that Trump has brought is not that easily fixed.
spr....Cut tariffs or figure out a way to help small employers. Tariff Relief Act?
akar...Lowering inflation and prices would help. Of course that would require lowering or removing tariffs. You know the tariffs that China is gonna pay.
cger...Interest rates are unjustifiably too high, because the Fed has one arrow and one arrow only in it's quiver. They use raising and lowering the interest rate to control inflation, which, traditionally is driven by consumer spending. This latest inflation is due to the BIDEN ADMINISTRATION spending. Giving away $2T of money that needed to be borrowed is a communist way of dealing. The Democrats WANT America to fail so that BIG GOVERNMENT can step in and "save the day" by controlling EVERYTHING.
doct...Humpty Dumpty
pete...Spending is on AI and data. Not more jobs or better jobs.
katl...Trump leaving office will help.
lora...Interest rates need to come down. the labor markets are what they are. There are still plenty of jobs in this country but some people do not want these jobs because they are lazy or they do not want to work. We need to fill these jobs prior to paying any welfare money to these grifters.
robe...The same industries that shed jobs will though with executives getting a bump as a result.

Should living human brain tissue used in biocomputers have legal or ethical protections distinct from traditional machines?

  • 63% Yes
  • 24% No

bjef...Give me a break. If they have no emotional centers, then they won't care.
pwhe...If said biocomputers have the ability to think independently of external influence, then maybe yes; if not, then no.
doct...Does the sun come up in the morning?
cger...The rise of the machine is upon us.
spis...No matter the yes or no answer there will ALWAYS be someone who doesn’t care about either and will continue to ”push the envelope “ in this arena!
