arth... | Primarily because the image of Russian Power has been decimated and Putin has lost so much face. If he backs down now he will have lost so much face with his own people after so many lives have been needlessly lost, and little gained. |
rzip... | Putin is a dictator. Trump is a schoolboy. Zelenskyy is the only hero in this travesty. |
ianp... | Mainly idiot Trump. Further oil sanctions will break Russia. |
zack... | This entire war is the result of failed foreign policy and the massive power the military industrial complex holds over so many world governments. A proxy war that has killed a million people. A war that should have never happened. When will we wake up!!??!! |
pros... | Putin wants Kyiv under his rule no matter the cost. He doesn't care about human life or the consequences of his actions. Zelenskyi wants to save his country, however he relies on the assistance from his partners . Trump doesn't understand that it's disgusting to put pressure on the weaker side while ignoring atrocities of the other. He is becoming irrelevant in the negotiation process. |
coal... | AlThough I have never been to Ukraine itself, I have been to Georgia, Armenia, Turkey and Pakistan, on extended tours in each of these countries, and I have actually physically and visually felt the long history and tension in the countries. They walk a difficult mile, being on the border, if you will, between the East and the West. They are very much both dependent on their Eastern “relatives” for trading, resources (like electricity and fuel) and some values, and often have family and relationship ties to the east, but want the freedom, lifestyles and opportunities the west offers, and, increasingly, family ties here also. Unless a person has actually been to these places, it’s harder to actually viscerally understand this. |
shoe... | Trump wants to build a legacy with Russia and by pass NATO. |
cjc3... | Putin is a thug. |
stev... | none of these is the biggest barrier! The biggest barrier is that Putin believes Russia deserves to have all parts bordering Russia that have ever been a part of his country. |
atli... | If the US had lived up to its promise to Russia to not expand NATO eastward, Russia would not have feared for its continued existence. |
join... | How can Ukraine trust anything Putin says when he invaded the country after he assured them they'd be left alone if only they gave up their nuclear weapons? |
blap... | The ego and politics of the leaders are responsible for the mistrust between nations |
robk... | Putin initiated aggression toward Ukraine with takeover of Crimea in 2014. He alone is biggest obstacle to lasting peace in this conflict. |
kold... | Invading fascists don't stop willingly. That would be Putin and Trump. |
cwbr... | The reason is Russian aggression to have access to Black Sea |
ebr.... | Putin cannot be trusted. My preferred answer is not listed among these three. |
flem... | I exclude Zelenskyy from that. |
pros... | You cannot trust Russians. Even if they stop now, it’s only to prepare for a war in a couple of years. |
knca... | Russia and Putin will ever be satisfied. |
davi... | Putin doesn’t have a choice but to drag out the war |
tjbo... | Trump is willing to sacrifice Ukraine’s territorial integrity on the altar of a meaningless peace. Putin has no interest in any other goal than the restoration of the Russian empire. Zelensky is the only good faith actor in this sham of a “peace process.” |
agsh... | putin has trump bluffed. trump wont admit putin is using him |
nanc... | Putin doesn’t seem inclined to negotiate any of the land Russia has taken by force in Ukraine. |
mich... | Biden could have stopped this! |
cb10... | Putin started it and needs to end it now! He should not get any of the Ukraine's land. |
jayn... | Putin’s ego |
caro... | Putin is not a trustworthy leader. He will string Trump along and yet do nothing consequential to end his invasion of Ukraine. Zelensky continues to lead his battered country but is smart enough not to believe Putin |
btaw... | Well, there’s Putin. And, there’s Putin. |
susi... | Trust is like pulling out the gun and shooting or not. |
blup... | Putin. It is literally 100% on Putin |
avaa... | Really all of the above |
juds... | If Russia stops fighting, the war is over. If Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine is over. |
lora... | Putin made a mistake and now cannot go back after losing nearly 600k solders. He has no choice but to continue the war or stepdown which he knows they will kill him. Zelensky needs to go as he too has stolen billions from his countries treasury and he has been bad for Ukraine. Biden and Obama should have been much more forceful when Putin invaded Ukraine, |
mdul... | Putin's goals have been clear and remained intact since before he launched the war. He has clearly shown that no amount of bloodshed, deaths, and atrocities will dissuade him from achieving those goals. He continues to mock Trump and run rings around him. There is no stopping Putin other than a strong armed resistance sufficiently committed and powerful to push Putin back to pre-Crimea annexation borders. |
flyn... | Putin can’t be trusted and is a dictator |
pldm... | Putin doesn't want to admit that Ukraine could thwart his complete domination of Ukraine. Zelenskyy doesn't want to compromise at all. |
call... | Putin's stranglehold on Russia is the primary reason there can't be peace in Ukraine... he has unlimited cannon fodder. |
