mary...The man is incompetent
juli...either he is ignorant of economics or he is just lying
jrqu...He's a fool who ruined his businesses!!
sock...Any savings will go to tax cuts for the wealthy
dian...Trump has clearly indicated that he has no intelligent understanding of economics. His insistence that tariffs are a solution to America’s financial problems shows a remarkable disregard for past history. He is leading America down a very dangerous pathway, and if we need help from our previous allies, America will be on its own since he has very convincingly alienated most of them by his denigrating comments and disrespectful attitudes. Unfortunately, the populous of the United States is coming to realize that just because Trump says something, doesn’t make it true. In fact, in general, it appears to be quite the opposite.
jwsa...He will make it much worse, as he did last time he was president, by cutting taxes for the ultra wealthy.
seac...He has only been in office for a month and a half and is trying to cut wasteful spending.
bria...these numbers are a reaction to the anticipated tariffs.
jjgo...Trump is flying above the trees, he sees nothing that aligns with reality to an average American citizen. The costs of living increases are very real, current data is not reflecting the real costs increases, but it will. Unless someone changes how inflation parameters are being measured . Thx John
jrv1...Politicians love to spend
cmar...He's a crackpot oligarch...all they're interested in is paying less taxes and running up the deficit so their excuse to cut social services..
char...Because he doesn't care about the deficit
john...He doesn’t care.
dian...I think in the short term the budget will look more in control, but it will not last as we see negative effects from the way the cuts were managed.
mark...He is good at bankruptcies and clearly only interested in making himself richer
rgto...Gotta stop congress!
twin...I have NO faith in that person!
ksdb...Much like the early 80’s, the first year or two will be a little rough.
chri...He doesn't care about controlling budgets or the country. He prioritizes his needs and desires above all things.
mbul...Trump doesn’t care about the deficit.
chri...He let the swamp prevail. So much for our hopes.
ssur...He will increase it with stupid tax cuts and tariff wars.
chad...donald acts like an immature and uneducated baby. He does not understand the intricacies of running a complex, modern day economy. He is like a bull in a China shop that does not understand economics 101.
jen....President Trump through his previous administration contributed to the budget deficit and his past business experience showcases that he knows more about spending money than controlling money.
tere...The goal is to create such a large deficit that social security and Medicare must be scrapped
andr...Trump is shrinking the IRS, making tax enforcement harder, while shrinking tax revenue overall, which his agency reductions will not keep pace with. Meanwhile, as markets tank, there are fewer gains to tax. The budget deficit will only grow from here.
agsh...he can start. the biden adm increased the deficit for dei And other pay-backs. these need to betterminated and the budget balanced. we are taxed enough. stop spending. the federal governmentt needs tto focus on defence and international issues. All the rest is redundancy with state government and oversight. stop the duplicity
timm...Liberal readership sways these polls every time you mention President Trump. I'm out!
meli...Absolutely not, I fear
danj...he has no clue
blai...A lot depends on our definition of "control".
kimk...Although I said No, I hope the answer is Yes. I believe he would get a lot more help from congress if he was a better leader.
bstr...Tax breaks to billionaires trump firing federal employees trying to keep us less vulnerable to disease, disaster, and crime.
ham3...I'm hopeful. Trump and Musk are the first presidency to address the mess that was created by Biden and the like
elle...Cannot understand how current President could control budget deficit if he's promising huge tax breaks. The math doesn't add up.
cath...Trump's proposed tax cuts will increase the deficit by a much larger amount than his ill-conceived personnel firings and corresponding reduction in labor costs will lower the deficit.
arch...No comparison to similar period of previous administration? So (not) surprising.
kjbo...Like a large freighter, it will take a fair amount of time and effort to control this runaway deficit.
denn...Trump will redirect any moneys saved by his mass firings to his other programs and to reduce taxes on the wealthy.
aqua...Impeach him
jimh...Too much of the expenditures are baked in
wizl...He is not capable of rationale thought or action
jasw...He has no interest in bringing down the budget deficit.
askk...Unless he slashes spending, as he is currently doing, the deficit will continue to grow exponentially.
nira...The uncertainty with trade and tariff policy could lead to a slowdown in business activity as well as business and consumer confidence. If that happens, our economic output will start to sputter offsetting any improvements in spending reduction. Further contemplated tax reductions will only exacerbate the situation.
zorr...He's an asshole!
revl...Trump is pushing the economy and our country off a cliff and making us toxic in the world. Why isn’t anyone standing up against him.
cmes...Once he gets all that waist out of there we're halfway to balancing it freaking Democrats were stealing money left and right. Stop the theft waste fraud and abuse yep we got a big chance of fixing this.
mdul...Trump increased the national debt by more than $2T (that's trillion) per year, adding more than $8T to that debt in his first term. That is more than any POTUS in modern history (last 75 years). Each of his actions thus far are targeted to ensure the deficit will grow even larger, alongside the other negative economic outcomes his policies bring the nation.
fc95...tax cuts increase the deficit
geor...His plan seems to be using tariffs to bolster the deficit so he can continue the tax deductions for mostly the wealthy
delu...His goal is to destroy our democracy. He is a thief. What does it matter to him or Musk if the American population cannot survive?
mich...Trump's skills are well known. It's just a few more zero's.
jllm...Let’s face it, he’s clueless, and when he drains his own wealth and suffers like the rest of us maybe he’ll get it.
bgbe...Democrats don’t want to cut spending
schw...He will add to it….. like he always had… and will blame Biden or someone else….. like he always has…..and will continue to live as an uninformed bully idiot……like he always has. Just ask his family
just...I wish we heard his explanation for what is happening presented as what to expect the next 3, 6, 9 months economically for long term benefit instead of always bashing the previous administration and deflecting.
fcse...His MO is to overspend and file for bankruptcy.
dbmj...I've lost $ 2500.00 dollars in the last few weeks because of his tariff war. The cost of most consumer items haven't gone down as Trump promised, just like he didn't stop the war in Ukraine in one day. The man was known for his involvement by doing business with mobsters, and lost the ability to aquire financing by most everyone in the banking community. His campaign promises have taken a 360 degree change from what he says today. The wealthiest Americans can ride out a higher cost of living, while most working class and poor Americans are struggling to get by. I seriously doubt causing mass numbers of unemployment in the government and in the public sector, compounded by retaliatory tarrifs are not going to achieve much of anything. Between Covid, the Afghanistan and Iraq wars we spent in excess of twenty trillion dollars according to various authors. I seriously doubt a man who's known for bankrupting businesses doesn't have the resources to recover the massive amount of debt we've accumulated over the past twenty years. This could possibly be the beginning of the fall of the American Empire. It certainly would help by taxing the wealthies companies and citizens too, not just the middle class. I see no way to balance the budget deficit under our current administration.
casu...He will ruin the economy
crae...The first financial controls are just beginning… it will take years to regulate And control the U.S. Budget.
rjna...He will be adding to it!
baby...Spitballing gets you nowhere
fmge...Where are even the concepts of a plan?
i27g...Historically entrenched federal monetary flows have made too many corporations and about 40% of the population addicted to indirect and direct subsidies. Tax cut promises will deepen the required revenue shortfall. Social security/ Medicaid/care, defense, interest liabilities are unlikely to be materially cut. More taxes are unavoidable -and whether tariffs (indirect taxes) can produce material revenues remains to be seen. A so far forgiving treasury market can delay the unavoidable, but it cannot prevent the need for drastic expense reductions and tax increases. We’ve consumed too much in the past and leveraged our future and our present. Unsustainable!
jerr...With these upcoming reciprocal tariffs coming and a looming recession on the doorstep more government spending will be required thus raising the deficit.
jzqu...he seems to have no rational plan of any sort.
arth...His first term significantly added to the deficit. He will have to fight the other party every step of the way and social spending will not be decreasing. This will be a daunting task, even if everyone was on board.
mich...He is in fact asking for a higher debt limit.
sbfr...Because he plans to continue tax cuts for the wealthiest.
jenn...Hes made a TON of impossible promises
cica...Trump just drove the Titanic American economy into an iceberg and now he’s busy throwing the deck chairs overboard along with the lifeboats. He wants a $4 trillion tax cut for billionaires mostly. You can only cut taxes so much after a certain point you need revenues we should be doing just the opposite with our billionaires we should be taxing the more. Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and other very wealthy billionaires have all said this for decades.
avaa...Lock him up he's a criminal felon
tubi...no, because that isnt the intention of those giving him instructions.
rsta...His extension of tax cuts will continue to grow our national deficit.
mimi...1. He has not addressed needed cuts in the military. 2. His cuts are headless and hapless. There is no rhyme or reason to the cuts, and he has left the country vulnerable in many areas. 3. He is expecting tariffs to fill the holes that he hopes his cuts will make. They won't. The American consumer will stop buying the products that are have tariffs. 4. The rest of the world will impost tariffs on US goods.
rfta...no one in govt has bothered to try I hope he does
jcja...Because he did not control the deficit in his first term.

Do you believe the recent decline in inflation is sustainable?

  • 78% No, it’s temporary and tariffs will raise it again
  • 22% Yes, inflation will continue to ease

EmailComments
ham3...If we stay the course it will end well. This is a turnaround. It takes time to get results
kpnj...No. Inflation down because consumers are staying home. So companies have to drop prices. Sales are down. Sentiment is down. People are nervous and hesitant. They don’t feel safe on a number of dimensions.
jrv1...Market forces will prevail
meli...Tariffs…more than affecting inflation. Nightmare economic ramifications
mbul...Tariffs
wizl...Tariffs will continue to generate counter measures from other countries
tere...Reconfiguring the formula to determine inflation allows the government to claim control of inflation without actually reducing inflation
cica...Duh
chri...The coming recession will take care of inflation.
cath...Trade wars increase consumer costs.
arch...You need to be more evenhanded, broaden your sources, or both. "Monthly, prices increased by 0.2%, a slight dip from January's 0.5% spike." A slight dip? Seriously? If it were an increase what adjective would you use - betting not 'minor' or 'modest'! You could say the dip was significant, unexpected, surprising. But you didn't. I came here for balance, not getting it.
rmby...Tariffs will sink us.
andr...When the 200% tariff on alcohol imports kick in, it'll be utterly unaffordable to buy wine and whiskey in this country. How are we going to take the sting off the cost of milk and eggs under Trump?
jrqu...Consumers will soon pay for idiocy!
rzei...Tarifs which results on a tax on consumers will increase prices as importers will pass increases in form of higher prices
geor...Economics 101! Tariffs will cause prices to rise, when prices on goods rise, inflation rises!
jllm...It’s just business and tariffs are bad for business, where’s Michael Corleon.
baby...It's inevitable that things will get decidedly worse. Buy now while you can.
jjgo...I will give you a great example totally not related to food. I am a big gardner , went to Home Depot to see what has been delivered to start my gardening for Spring 2025. As one walks into HD there is a display of rose roots , great selection. Last year the same rose root containers , same manufacture , were sold for $9.99 , this year $16.99 ! What I see is the average American has gone into “must have mode “ and stopped all “ nice to have’s”. The significant change is occurring , look at restaurants the staff are saying customer count has slowed! Airlines , communicating adjusted revenues. The actual drop in spending is lagging , but in the months to come the numbers will reflect the consumer spending pull back that is occurring right now . Thx John
tubi...dumb donald's poor handling of the situation, in conjunction with his usual self-aggrandizing bloviations, will continue to sew discord.
cmes...Yes I absolutely do believe that this dip will work because tariffs are simply a negotiating tool That's all he's doing with it getting the rest of the countries out there that are ripping us off in line.
jenn...Because that's what tariffs are
fc95...impact of tarriffs will increase inflation

Do you think Google’s push for more autonomous robotics is a positive step for society?

  • 54% No, it raises safety and ethical concerns
  • 46% Yes, it will enhance productivity and innovation

EmailComments
baby...Garbage in = garbage out. This AI model is learning based on inherently flawed data and is incapable of making the same snap judgments that humans can.
tubi...though as with any major advancement, innovation must be tempered with ethics.
bria...Don't be stupid and turn this into a science fiction ending
mbul...This is the inevitable direction of innovation, so we will need to deal with the ethics and safety concerns. People were afraid of the steam engine when it first came out. I’m 71.
jimb...The correct answer is both increased productivity and increased ethical concerns (replace people). You should present to the reader a true either or choice.
meli...If concerns are dealt with, then more autonomous robotics may prove positive
andr...Complicated question – it will definitely help with the disabled, in terms of assistive and mobility devices. But it needs close regulation to prevent militarization of this technology, and potential disaster should these robotic technologies gain autonomy without constraints.
jllm...All in time
coch...The push for AI, robotics, and the implications that each will have on the other is occurring too quickly. Little government oversight, little widespread conversation, and too little transparency are grave concerns.
jerr...will help keep inflation down

How concerned are you about China’s expanding presence in global waters?

  • 69% Very concerned
  • 27% Somewhat concerned
  • 4% Not concerned

EmailComments
twin...Dont trust them!
jrqu...Donald is a coward and can be bribed easily by China
mbul...I don’t know enough to know how concerned I should be. However, I would be very concerned if this “exploration” could result in destruction of the ecosystems. From the military point of view, it seems that the line between good guys and bad guys has been smeared by trump to the point that I would be equally concerned if it were the US.
rols...USA needs to wake up to chinas expansion for world domination
elle...Very concerned about China's expanding presence in global waters because history has shown that China's government uses predatory behavior unless checked by other global powers. It appears China is taking advantage of political chaos in U.S. to move forward with its own agenda. What makes risk greater is the fact that current U.S. President is breaking, not building, alliances with (former) global allies.
tubi...so long as there is no need for military presence.
jllm...Just like all so called leaders , I’m concerned about there agenda.
fmge...Trump's bullying of our allies is playing into China's hands.
jjgo...China is no one’s friend - they are relentless in their journey for world dominance . Thx John
char...They consistently overreach: air, land, sea.
mdul...China's goal of global hegemony continues unabated and continually assisted by Trump's isolationist and protectionist policies. China continues to expand its range of influence and control while the US influence in the world shrinks. China's constant military harassment of Taiwan is one highly visible taunting and testing strategy that shows how the US is conflicted and feckless. China's trajectory is poised upwards, despite their near term economic woes, while the US trajectory is negative.

Which area of space research do you find most important?

  • 69% Space weather and protecting Earth from solar storms
  • 26% Deep-space exploration and the search for life
  • 5% Other

EmailComments
avaa...Both
john...Waste of our tax dollars
jimb...The search for other life is most important for its philosophical reasons otherwise its just grist for si-fy.
baby...Our failures to protect our own planet are currently manifest, and defunding our national weather services means we need to focus even more on large scale weather and climate events such as those impacted by space
coll...We need to stay curious and look outward while also balancing our immediate needs to protect the Earth and its finite resources.
tubi...im all for exploration, but it needs to be closer to home, rather than 100's or 1000's of lightyears away. lets focus on our own backyard to see if there is anyone/thing in the neighborhood.

Do you find the idea of biohybrid technology (living organisms enhanced with electronics) exciting or unsettling?

  • 59% Unsettling—too much interference with life
  • 36% Exciting—nature and tech working together
  • 5% Other

EmailComments
jllm...Going to happen someday, I rather have it here than being left behind and think I can blissfully live in the past without consequences.
baby...Ummmmm....playing God, anyone??? I'm getting serious Dr. Moreau vibes here....
char...Very exciting when used for good, like rescue in difficult situations. Very unsettling when carelessly managed. I can imagine them being used for the wrong purposes, but what if some get loose in areas they don't currently exist? And then breed? And then...?
cons...elon musk is a creep
perm...Interesting potential for positive and negative uses.
chri...Exciting and scary at the same time. Weaponized robots are scarier and in production already.
