mdul...It's unclear whether there were any violent protests before Trump deployed almost 3000 troops to LA, against the expressed wishes of the state's Governor. However, it's very clear that the Trump deployment caused the escalation when the first rule in dealing with possible conflicts is to seek de-escalation. Trump said he deployed the troops because a protester had spit at a LEO and that was unacceptable. All of this while he also pardoned the J6 protesters that were part of an armed insurrection with the stated goal of seeking to stop the peaceful transition of power following the most secure election in history.
over...I live in Portland Oregon where we had riots for over 100 days a few years back. The local officials FAILED to serve and protect us. I would have welcomed this move by the Federal Government.

righ...Once again, this is a classic case of the federal government (not even just DJT) using excessive force to undermine the first amendment, disenfranchise the people's principles and values, and to create a police state. It's unacceptable. But beyond that, for the leader of the Republican party to disrespect "State's Rights" seems like a direct rejection of their brand. No part of this choice makes any sense other than to bolster the power of one person over the rest of the nation. So, ultimately, it's just the beginning. This country has always valued people over property (hence militants protecting a building) and wealth over its people. Immigrants are just the beginning, though, many of those who have been taken or "deported" to prisons, we're not only convicted of no crimes (undocumented immigrants are a civil case... Not a crime nor illegal), but some people who have been taken were taking the processes towards citizenship by way of green cards and visas... And paid into many government funds that they'll never withdraw from. If people think it will stop here, they're mistaken. Also, nonviolent protests aren't enough. DJT and this country, with his actions as a catalyst, have driven people to anger and fear. The violence is on their hands.

We are paying exorbitant amounts of money for healthcare, education an housing and living stipends to support these people while ignoring our own citizens. srod...I live in the Los Angeles area, about 6 miles from DTLA, and the situation is being overblown. A lot of arrests have already been made for the bad actors. The protest has been mostly peaceful, and small protests have taken affect in other areas. It has been normal days for most here. The media and this administration are trying to make this look like full blown chaos but it is not. People have the right to speak out and are protected by the 1st amendment.

When local government allows disorder including obvious public safety threats, then state and/or federal government must intervene. In this case federal agents arresting felons and local police supporting them asked for support from local and state government and no assistance was given for 2 days while the violence against them escalated. thankfully, sane leadership took over and the threats are being addressed appropriately.

trag...Bringing the National Guard was unnecessary and may well have intensified the protests. The LAPD was capable of controlling the protesters and if they needed more help then the Governor would have brought them in. The constitution codifies that chain of command. This was not a situation that required the president to intervene and call in the troops. He shouldn’t have brought in the National Guard and it was not necessary to bring in the Marines. The President should have consulted with the governor to see if it was time to bring in the Guard. Perhaps they could have worked together to set a timeline- if the situation didn’t subside significantly by a certain day or time then the governor should bring in the Guard. But Trump doesn’t work cooperatively so maybe he should have stipulated that if the situation continued to be out of control he would override the Governor and bring in the Guard. But Trump does what he wants when he wants without consideration of the others nvolved
