beth...Both my husband and I were born and raised Catholic, but due to the Church's stance on abortion, LGBTQ+ issues, and women serving as priests, we chose to join the Episcopal Church (where all are welcome) and are very happy. I hope the new Pope brings healing, forgiveness, and change to the Catholic Church.

mdul...I am Catholic and identify as such because of the strong faith I have and the relationship I have with God. However, I am distrustful of all organized religion since they operate as any business must - with a need to sustain itself by seeking revenues and that means catering to those "customers" that are willing to feed the cash requirements. We need look no further than the so-called Christians supporting Trump's agenda which bears no resemblance whatsoever to the principles of Christianity with which we are all familiar.
ckin...Mainstream Protestant

stef...I’m confirmed as Zwinglian and as Catholic. And I’m happily atheistic now. I only go to my wife’s dying Lutheran Church when I can’t avoid it. At least the people are nice there, but I slink out during the sermons.
usct...The Constitution emphasizes religious freedom not America as a Christian Nation. We must always remember that there is a big difference between the Planting Fathers and the Founding Fathers. Some of the Planting Fathers founded their colony to preserve their specific form of the Protestant religion. Maryland was more for Catholics. Other colonies were founded for economic reasons. By 1779, and the writing at the Constitutional Convention, the Founders recognized the divisive impacts of the various religious beliefs in America. They were influenced by the religious wars that plagued Europe. So they included religious liberty, but allowed it to be more of an individual choice rather than a group enforcing their beliefs on others. Faith will always have a place in the public sphere. But the wall of separation is an important wall. It must always exist at the right height to provide for individual conscience, but also to allow for the conscience of others and their differences. That has always been the genius of the Founders. No faith would rule them all. All faiths were free to practice. Free from government interference or preference. Free to practice, but not free to rule.
ltno...What has occurred over the course of the last few centuries is a growing (but by no means universal or certain) recognition that science gets the job done, while religion makes excuses. Sometimes they are very pretty excuses that capture the imagination of the public, but ultimately, when you want to win a war or heal a dying child or get rich from a discovery or explore Antarctica, you turn to science and reason, or you fail. -PZ Myers, biology professor (b. 9 Mar 1957)
shay...Bahai
jeha...Science oriented, but socially Buddhist-lite

hans...Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints
pbs7...Marx had it right, “religion is the opium of the masses.”
heig...Southern Baptist, born again Christian believer
rtet...I'm surprised that they selected an American. But grateful that Pope Leo XIV is a man who believes God is on the throne and not the blasphemous grifter occupying the US White House.
stbu...Presbyterian for many years after leaving the too rigid Baptist faith
dgna...Anglican/Episcopal

Do you think the U.S. economy is more negatively affected by tariffs on China than the Chinese economy?

  • 64% Yes, the U.S. is feeling the brunt
  • 32% No, China is worse off due to tariffs
  • 5% Other

twin...Retail owners have been receiving info from suppliers that they may not get holiday merchandise and that vendors want them to buy old product currently in warehouses! This is not good for merchants or vendors!
kenh...USA is not used to hardship and lack of supply. Chinese have a different mentality and can withstand the downturn
sims...They are major trading partner for everyday goods so trump is creating inflation for lower and middle class households. This means people on budget are forced to buy fewer items. China population have alternative sources of everyday goods so their budgets are not affected
mage...We are China’s largest market. The answer is that easy. And as Trump said, how many pencils does a person need.
jmbe...Trump's tariffs are a self-inflicted wound which will lead to disastrous results for middle and lower class Americans.
tubi...the foodstuffs and textiles coming from china are exactly what the US didnt need anyway. as for the electronics, etc., much is made elsewhere than china, though probably still chinese owned.
bret...Too early to say who will suffer more. If China can replace US buyers then the US will obviously suffer more. More likely both countries suffer. Reduced global economic activity is sure to be the outcome of tariffs.
mdul...Some 60% of respondents at this time say the US is feeling the brunt more than China and that is correct. However, I would also point out that Americans have hardly even seen the beginning of the effects of the Trump Trade War. Only now are we starting to get the announcements about price increases. Up to now, the news has been warnings about what will occur.
dian...Time to make trade fair to US
ejsa...Thanks, Trump
ayo....China may be worse off but they are better prepared to deal with the fallout
mmal...Tariffs were not the way to achieve the “so called” goal of lowering interest rates and bring manufacturing back to the US. Tariffs are a short term attempt for a very long term complicated goal. Tanking the economy in the short term will not achieve the goal.
elin...US will face the brunt after the current imports are exhausted.
pine...Unfortunately the comments being made by the majority of respondents indicate a complete lack of understanding economics and a reliance on main stream media. I would suggest researching the Epochs Times and the Hillsdale Colleges publication before making absurd comments!
pmwr...Trump had better come up With MAJOR trade changes (not bullshit he says is big, but isn’t) to warrant this disruption. My small business may go under!!! Already take. To long!!! And it appears he is doing for headlines…. Killing my live for him!!!! Really poorly done as disruption is so impactful…. GET IT DONE!!!
jllm...I’m not the only one who failed economics
chiu...The main stream media does not cover the issues in the China economy right now. Their exports have significantly dropped and work lay offs significantly increased and not paying some workers. Workers are protesting. This on top of their overbuilt real estate. US is their biggest market and we are buying.
nanc...When trump did his calculations to come up with tariffs, he didn’t include services exported. These include financial, consulting, telecommunications, insurance, tourism, among many others. Between the goods and services exported to China by the U.S., the benefits to our country were almost a million jobs. The U.S. is the largest service exporter in the world, or was, before trump began his tariff war.
geof...US residents financially benefit a lot more from Chinese imports than Chinese residents benefit from imports from the US. No brainer.
pfor...China has the leverage. The amigos of trump, lutnik and bessent are in way over their head.
nick...China imports a lot more to us than vice versa. It definitely impacts them more.
barb...I wonder what kind of people are reading this newsletter, or who is writing it.
cste...I swear people who vote in these polls are clueless. The US is the largest market in the world. China needs the US a helluva a lot more than the US needs Chinese products.

Is it fair for Nvidia to prioritize sales in China despite U.S. restrictions?

  • 66% Yes, they should pursue business opportunities
  • 34% No, they should align with U.S. interests

tabr...American corporations should be motivated to produce and sell products that generate most impact on their share prices. If China is the best market, despite tariff and other trade barriers, the added costs get added in and if still competitive or producing a worthy margin to Nvidia, or any US company, then that is where they should market there products.
mdul...Government sets policy and laws, and companies are required to follow those rules but in such a way as to maximize returns for their stakeholders. Business owners would be well within their rights to question management that would take it upon themselves to produce less net income because they believe that the government simply didn't place sufficient restrictions on revenue sources.
ttim...Their business their choice.
jllm...It’s a global economy get used to it
jeha...Jensen has already lost $5.5B because of tarriffs, and still managed to make money by threading the needle to offer China a dumbed-down H20 chip. Can't stop commerce, but he's working with Trump to meet US export requirements.
krys...Why should they align with U.S. business interests? The U.S. has proven it will not align with any other country’s interests.
sims...Nividia is a threat to national security far more than tik-tok Our tech industry has to conform or they’ll make our defense and infrastructure vulnerable.

Do you think Democrats are justified in opposing the GENIUS Act due to concerns over Trump's connections?

tubi...congressional republicans are weak and scared. they let dumb donald do whatever he wants while they cower silently.
mdul...Perhaps we are finally seeing some members of Congress recognize that they have a role in government and it is not to simply do what Trump tells them to do.
ttim...Speaks for itself.
ercm...The risks associated with cryptocurrency should never be pushed onto American taxpayers. It is fine for it to stay in the private sector, but has no place in the federal reserve. In fact, the underlying motivation behind crypto was to be separate from governments. So it should stay that way.
grah...Come on Republicans- the so called party of law and order holds no one accountable unless it’s based on “beliefs”.
nanc...Absolutely! He has got to be reined in and held accountable!
pbs7...Trump is not our problem; the federal bureaucracy is!!!!!
bret...The government should not create laws so that government officials can benefit financially. That type of corruption generally exists in dictatorship governments.
theu...No grifting, please
john...Be careful how you word your articles. You wrote: "The U.S. Senate failed to pass the GENIUS Act, a stablecoin regulation bill, receiving only 48 votes." The word "only" infers the vote did poorly. If you ask me, 48 votes is a lot, but not quite enough. You write "only" as if it didn't come close to passing, which influences the tone of the article, it's not just the facts.
jmbe...Trump is using the Presidency to amass a huge personal fortune, despite the blatant conflicts of interest. And yet he can do no wrong, in the eyes of his MAGA disciples.
jllm...No-brainer

Do you believe the benefits of probiotics on mood are significant enough to warrant widespread public recommendation?

  • 54% Yes, they should be promoted
  • 46% No, more research is needed

ttim...More of them less unfounded drugs.
jllm...There’s never enough research
atco...88 subjects doesn’t “ make it so”. Also would like to know the research model used.
theu...Gut biome health is a new core element of healthy lifestyle
nanc...They may not help everyone, but if some can benefit from, why not? Mental health is so important, but physical health is what is focused upon.
jkjv...I wonder how the human race survived this long without all these medications. To me it's big pharma selling their products for their own gains. Today's society people are too soft they need to feel some hard times so that one doesn't have these ill feelings of whatever it is these medicines are for. In summary we need to be harder on their children so that they can cope with any situation they come across and not rely on medicine
drom...This could well be a placebo effect that will wear off over time.

Should psychedelics be considered as a treatment option for mental health conditions?

  • 83% Yes, they hold promise
  • 17% No, we need more research

EmailComments
timb...Navigating the world of phsycotropics is difficult and big pharmaceutical seems to not have cracked the code yet. If psychedelics could hold the answer more power to them
fisc...Multiple companies including Atai are evaluating them in a formal clinical setting that will help validate the clinical use of psychedelics woth improved safety profile and tolerability
jmja...Further structured research is required. In the past, we have rushed drugs to market without understanding the true side effects (e.g., heart issues with the COVID vaccines, psychological impacts of higher THC in legal marijuana).
hmar...They increase creativity levels and as a result people find themselves in a more productive and fulfilling position
lesl...Microdosing works wonders for my mood
bboy...I have used psychedelics as an aid in personal inner work… YES they help!
jeha...What else needs to be said. Listen to the scientists, not quacks
drom...People are not mice restricted to a cage.
jllm...As a child of the 60s, I saw a first hand the effects of what psychedelics had on the mental prose of a friend who I guess you consider today had autism and wound up after all the that to go on to live a healthy life. Research let’s find out why.
