Just facts, you think for yourself

Do you think the U.S. government taking 15% revenue from Nvidia and AMD’s China AI chip sales is a fair trade-off for maintaining market access?

  • 66% No, it undermines free business operations and innovation
  • 29% Yes, it’s a reasonable measure to protect U.S. interests
  • 5% Other

manu...Yes great Especially sales to china!
mdul...Trump needs to find ways to make it appear that his trade wars are not as ill conceived as they are so he needs to at least show revenues. However, just a short time ago and prior to the election, Trump railed about how China was stealing our IP and ripping us off, all while becoming an even more military threat. He also made a huge point about the US committing to beating China in the AI field. So, in exchange for some short term revenue, all of that is abandoned. Still, though, MAGA will find some contorted way to try to explain that this is all part of some master negotiation which has yet to deliver. Sheesh.
ebr....How about asking the shareholders what they should do instead of just acting on their own?
chri...How can we know what Trump’s deal really was? They are all shrouded in secrecy but generally involve extortion benefitting Trump himself.
pete...This is basically extortion of these two companies by the US government.
blik...Determine what level of AI and all other IT products we need to dominate militarily and commercially. Arrange tax breaks, HR, and regulatory milieu to make that level of domestic production happen ASAP. Let the free market fight over the scraps. Ensure that enemies are debilitated.
luke...Pay to play is not the American way.
lach...If this had happened under a Dem President the Republicans, Libertarians, and Independents would have been apoplectic yapping about capitalism and the free market vs socialism and communism but Trump does it and no one bats an eye. Highly doubt the money will be accounted for either.
mike...How does taxing the chips 15% protect national security?
suzh...It’s extortion. Government getting into corporate business. Trump getting in. His family are investors. Also….like tariff money…..where is money going we hear all of this “money in” but no explanation of money out. Trump policies increasing debt 4 trillion. Why is all of this money not going to reduce debt. Every single penny. He ran on that policy.
jfjc...It's classic trump shakdown tactics
sygw...China gains access to the top-rated AI technology without making any investments or paying a tariff. A huge gain for them in the technology market. They always look to the long run when they do business. We just gave away our technology lead, all thanks to our 'Great Deal Maker," his majesty Donald Trump.
call...It's a total rip off that Trump is trying to steal from everyone and everybody
docm...This looks like blackmail by the Trump administration.
kfhe...This question is an interesting twist considering the Biden administration banned all sales to China.
kvas...Sounds like extortion to me. Worse, it sounds like Trumpty Dumpty is willing to sell U.S. national security if the price is right. It's the old joke: "We've established what you are. Now we're just haggling for the price."
atli...Sounds like the old mafia technique of pay me for security or I will hurt you.
pedr...This seems more about control than tax money. They are power schemes for a decadent commercial state of our country. We let it slip and now we want to take by force. We should develop our technology, not take.
dvc....It's another tax on American consumers. The tariff gets built into the price that consumers pay for devices and other products which use these chips.
mmul...It’s basically paying a bribe. It’s disgusting, DT is extorting American companies.
gour...It’s extortion
dfpe...Pay for play is not appropriate. Either ban the sale of chips on espionage concerns or get out of the way.

How do you view the role of U.S. involvement in mediating peace between Ukraine and Russia?

  • 45% Negative; U.S. involvement complicates peace
  • 43% Positive; U.S. is a necessary mediator
  • 12% Unsure

EmailComments
remy...The US is a the belligerent party! Ukraine and Europe are just proxies, the US isn't the mediator!
arth...First, the U.S. should meet with NATO representatives and Ukraine to agree on the maximum and minimum parameters. Then start the negotiations with Russia. Solid agreed upon long range weapon Assistance and crushing boycott of Russia should be the outcome if no reasonable deal reached. Oil tanker blockade must be included in the threat.
nanc...Ukraine should absolutely have a seat at the table. It’s totally unacceptable for this to take place without them.
vtgr...Putin is Wiley and Trump is putty.
jame...Ukraine (at least part of it) has been conquered. Time to concede the loss and move on.
sygw...The audacity to tell the Ukrainians they don't have a seat at the table when negotiating their fate. Need we be reminded that Russia started this war? Took children out of Ukraine to be adopted by Russian parents and indoctrinated them about Russian culture and history to erase any loyalty they might have to their homeland.
cfcu...Must include Ukraine in talks
katl...Trump cannot be trusted and shoukd stay out of the negotiations. U.S. should increase sanctions and quit allowing Putin to continue. Send the Russians a clear and concise message that Ukraine will keep their money to rebuild, Putin is a war criminal and needs to get the hell out of Ukraine. Trump should support NATO and stop pretending to be a dictator. If he wants to do that go to Russia.
jdan...We have an administration who are partial to Russian interest so TACO Donnie can get his name on a building in Moscow.
dfpe...European progress has been nil and as the major superpower we have an obligation to push forward peace negotiations.
ebr....Trump is Putin's lapdog. Any involvement from the US should be ignored. Ignore Trump's demands and anything he says or actions he takes. Slava Ukraini #IstandwithUkraineandZelenskyy
mdul...The US is a necessary mediator in this war but Trump's constantly shifting priorities and policies have made the US a complication factor rather than a voice of reason with a steady hand seeking the best possible outcome.
atli...The U.S. unlike most other countries is currently employing untrained and inexperienced negotiators and nonprofessional ambassadors around the world.
swjo...Trump’s approach is wrong
mads...Any transfer of Ukraine land it Russia is wrong. Ronald Reagan must be rolling in his grave with Trumps talk of letting Russia take parts of Ukraine.
runn...You can’t trust Trump to do anything constructive to protect Ukraine and you can’t trust Putin.
jamf...These negotiations would NOT be happening were it not for the Trump administration! The Biden administration was not capable of this-or the other Peace deals President Trump has facilitated to date...
csbr...Trump is a Putin pawn
dave...Ukrainian government should not concede any territory to the aggressor.
tdhu...It seems like Putin’s main concern and motive for the invasion of Ukraine (and, possibly, other Eastern European nations in the future) is the eastward expansion of NATO since 1990. I think he views the U.S. as the primary superpower within NATO as well as the primary instigator of NATO expansion over the last 35 years. Therefore, it seems to me that it is ideal - if not necessary - for the U.S. to play a significant role in peace negotiations with Putin. I think the late Henry Kissinger had the best idea for the situation of Russian intrusion into Ukraine - appeasement of limited territory (eastern Ukrainian territory largely dominated by sympathy toward & historical / cultural association with Russia) into Russian control / annexation. Kissinger understood how NATO expansion following the end of the Cold War could be viewed as a betrayal to the peaceful agreements established between the West and Russia following the collapse of the Soviet Union. To side with Ukraine in not ceding any of its territory to Russia risks, by way of gradual escalation, World War III.
kvas...It would be positive if we didn't have a president who is an adoring Putin lackey
haho...Trump seems to be supporting Putin which no other country has been supporting. All Putin does is take over other country’s lands with force and millions of people dead to feel his insecurity about global dominance! He is a psychopath that needs to be removed once and for all. He has never done anything good to his own people, nor anyone else.

Do you think CATL’s suspension of lithium production will have a lasting impact on global lithium prices?

  • 44% Yes, it will tighten supply and sustain higher prices
  • 44% No, supply will adjust quickly and prices will stabilize
  • 12% Unsure

EmailComments
dfpe...In a depressed market, taking 3% of global supply off-line has no appreciable meaning or real impact overall.

Do you agree that investing heavily in AI memory chips with 30% annual growth is a sustainable business strategy?

  • 53% Yes, AI demand will continue accelerating
  • 40% No, such growth is likely unsustainable or a bubble
  • 7% Unsure

EmailComments
mdul...The question needs a time frame for a proper response. Investing with the expectation of 30% growth through next year is sustainable and justified. Investing with an expectation of 30% CAGR for the next 10 years is not.

Given that microglia naturally clear toxic plaques, should Alzheimer’s research focus more on enhancing the brain’s own defenses rather than developing entirely new drug compounds?

  • 80% Yes, boosting natural defenses is promising
  • 20% No, new drugs targeting different pathways are needed

EmailComments
ebr....Drugs always have side effects. Relying on the brain for its cognitive repair seems like the right thing to do. Less damaging.

How convincing do you find the evidence that ME/CFS has a biological genetic basis rather than being primarily psychosomatic?

  • 44% Somewhat convinced
  • 38% Strongly convinced
  • 18% Not convinced

nanc...I hope it is biological. It’s gives those suffering from it hope for relief.
