eliz...Its a known fact that China sends its students to spy/steal US research from universities
4mla...If a student comes here and participates In hate America protests and is involved I. Disrupting school for others shouldn’t be allowed.
jfil...I don’t know that we are losing the best minds but we are certainly losing input from other cultures and perspectives
mdul...Higher education is one of the areas where the US led the world and was the source of so much of the innovation that propelled us to such success. The attack on our educational institutions, along with the prohibition imposed by the government on actual science and data, has an effect even more pronounced than the immediate - it leads our best and brightest to want to study and research elsewhere. In a recent poll conducted by one of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world, 75.3% of US scientists are in the midst of considering offers to leave the US for all the countries that are seeking to attract that talent. It's one thing for capital to flee financial markets, as it is doing, but that might be reversed with the right set of conditions. However, the reverse brain drain and the imposition of walls to deter prospective STEM students and researchers is all but irreversible once begun.
knkr...Trump needs to stay out of trying to control universities under the flimsy guise of “fighting antisemitism”. He doesn’t care about Jews or anyone except himself and he is causing more antisemitism by his ridiculous antics.
g.de...Since there are no strict definitions set by elected politicians and agreed upon by universities and research institutions as to what constitutes “anti-American rhetoric” or “language that is a threat to America and/or its citizens” then this will be used to stifle the First Amendment and any politically opposing views. It will obviously deter and prevent brilliant minds from coming to America and contributing to America’s independent and revered scholastic and research institutions. It will cause a flight of intellect and a drain on our collective brain trust, ultimately removing America as a leader in medical science, technology, engineering, the humanities, etc.
phyl...Stupid. Many International students are the best and the brightest and stay on after they graduate to contribute to making important advances in our country. Now they will go elsewhere. In addition they add to the gene pool and add diversity to our country which is badly needed.
mike...Colleges have been a trojan horse for decades. Cyber programs are trojan horses to move liberal votes to red state schools, just in time for November. (DSU in Madison, SD is one)
chri...Disgusting dictator
cb10...It has nothing to do with national security, but only about control.
jeff...Pure vengeance at work
kevp...It is self explanatory
blup...Screw risking "losing the best minds in the world". We lose human decency. This sucks
mich...International students should not be allowed to take a seat in any college in the United States if there is an American student that qualifies to take it. If there are seats available then we should be reviewing our public education system as those students are being let down.
rory...Negative, this represents and unreasonable over reach by the government of the US higher education school system for political purposes.
azfl...Negative. This has nothing to do with international security. It is another ploy for Trump to destroy US universities and turn them into propaganda machines that teach his deranged views.
sand...This is the downfall of our policies. It is a disgrace
tjaw...We are also losing the valuable experience of other cultures and viewpoints our American students gain from interacting with students from other countries.
fnib...Our colleges are infested with terrorists groups who are brainwashing and recruiter our students. National security comes first. People pay for an education not for an indoctrination. The violence and the anti-American attitude stops NOW!
cynt...It is xenophopic and immature. I cannot believe we are in a country that is being policed in this way. It is truly frightening. He is ruining our country and the sources of growth peace and prosperity it used to promote worldwide and within.
edwa...We are in an evolutionary era of increasingly well organized and funded foreign players influencing many of our cherished institutions by taking advantage of the liberties of our democracy to destroy and weaken our democracy. The universities have had substantial infiltration by a number of anti- American players. Whether be Islamist movements not tolerated by our ‘allies’ in the Mideast or members of communist parties like the CCP, these adversaries are well funded and prey on the innocents. They have negatively influenced the educational curriculum of our nation is a subversive manner. As a result we are witnessing an explosion of intolerance in our universities where the phrase ‘freedom of expression’ has become a synonym for condoning hate speech and harassment of fellow students who live in fear. We see the rise of genocidal ideation in our universities. Time to dial back the machinations of those parties looking to destroy our democracy.
cmag...Diversity of backgrounds has made the US higher educational system the envy of the world and the entrepreneurial incubator for research and tech and creative arts and music.
mark...US must work to prevent terrorism. Cannot continue to help educate those that support it.
wall...Disgusting practices that serve no purpose other than depriving our society and other countries of intelligent and capable citizens.
msyk...This is an example of the ignorance of the trade deficit-obsessed. Higher education is one of our biggest exports, and we are shutting that down.
mrmi...The isolationist and xenophobic behavior of the administration will cause us to fall behind
cavm...There is a cohort of Trump's base of support that will not or can't look beyond their own selfish interests and misplaced sense of nationalism such that they dislike all things foreign. This step plays well to them, and Trump knows that. Very sad; very destructive to our long-term interests.
2ali...Security of the USA must come first. Let's figure this out (correctly) and resume. There's no point in educating (some) foreign students, just so they can use it against us!
jamf...It is beyond frightening to have so many young people focused on anti semitism! We HAVE TO tighten up National security now/before it's too late...
sdsa...The fact that anyone agrees with this shows how far we have sunken as a country. We are doomed under the worst President in U.S. history.
grga...Extremely negative- it’s yet another authoritarian attack on free speech in the name of “security”. It’s racism and fascism disguising as policy.
omeg...Our nation's security is more important.
dian...We saw what happened in World War II when Germany pursued its anti-Jewish policies. The best minds, who could get out of Germany, did so and many came to the United States, providing a brain drain from Germany and tremendous benefit to other countries. The same is happening now among our brightest minds. Professionals, including physicians and researchers are searching for other countries in which to perform. And other countries are advertising for American researchers and physicians to come to their countries where they can work and publish in freedom. It’s hard to believe that people are leaving the United States for “freedom“.
exmx...I hate hearing about international students protesting against our beliefs. If you’re fortunate enough to get in a study, keep your crap to yourself. If you protest about us , you’re out! If you harm others because of beliefs, you out or jailed . Period.
jack...Both matter.
wyne...Insanity!!
jlou...Sad period for America as we have a President attacking higher education and our Nation’s finest institutions. He devalues American values such as science, the arts, learning and free speech.
wche...Trump’s constant use of national security as a threat to scare the ignorant MAGA community is a strategy that dictators have used for centuries. Trump is the true king of fake news
lill...It’s a racist policy
irri...It’s punitive. Has nothing to do with anything. Trump’s following authoritarian handbook to solidify his power.
lisa...Just keep praying for the day the orange chimpanzee leaves the White House and all this bullsh*t can be undone and sanity can be restored.
barr...Nothing more than an extension of a control freak as president. Only one view is permitted.
joem...The best minds are usually foreigners
just...I fear for what this country is coming to under this tyrants rule. Don’t forget Elons money laundering.
dmax...This is crazy. Some of the best minds in the world have studied and stayed here to create their own businesses and prospered. Trump’s wife is an example…
kath...We need the best minds in the world coming to study in the US, and not disrupt our universities. Most would never be permitted to do so on the campuses within their own country.
rebe...There is no need to educate terrorists. Invest in American minds!
kcli...I think it’s good, tons of amazing US students get rejected in favor of high tuition and on campus living fees they can get from international students. I don’t think it prevents “the worlds greatest minds studying in Americ a” because we ignore some of the worlds greatest minds right in our own country
bare...Another loss to the USA and a win for Canada, Germany, and China.
dvpo...I like it very much
mlan...So tired of the “paranoid” rep.
jenn...Short sighted, as per usual
mjwi...This is an unconstitutional and discriminatory policy intended to punish an institution and its students for exercising their right to oppose a political position. It is no less egregious than the Kent State massacre on May 4, 1970.
jrv1...US Taxpayers are providing heavy funding to universities and we closely vet who is accepted. Harvard has 30% International Students. Go figure, my tax dollars are used to educate students who will return to their countries and prosper. Especially vet and not accept those who will cause campus u rest
robe...Vetting is good as is positive contributions while having the privilege of studying but there should be a cap to allow US students fair access to best education.
robk...Like Trump’s curtailing federal research grants to universities and foreign aide (USAID), his restricting foreign students from accessing US universities is extremely shortsighted. The hearts and minds of people across the world are revising their image of USA. I ask, in a good way from an American perspective? Are Trumps actions making America great again in the eyes of the world? The world needs USA leadership in all facets of education, science, and resources - I believe. Is USA withdrawing from its leadership position? Is USA tarnishing its favorable world image? Are Trump’s actions making American great again?
larr...America First is quickly becoming America Alone. We need an AA 12 step program.
debo...America is now run by a wannabe Hitler.
skd2...We need to focus on improving our education system first then allow foreign students to come in. Education should not be about income for the college, it should be about the students and our students are failing.
dlkn...For businesses it’s negative. The reason being, the sad unfortunate reality is that the gen z age of work ethic is NON EXISTENT and the entitlement of what they are owed and should not work hard leaves businesses with kids who don’t show up to work and demand remote or hybrid 9-5 days with several breaks In my industry the best workers are from Ireland on visas. So unless the parents wake up and instill to your children the work ethic they were taught growing up, then we need the hard workers who are willing to put the time and hard work in to earn the positions and promotions to advance. Granted this is not all gen z but it’s 90% Most of the students on visas work here and look to stay and become permanent residents legally.
fcse...I teach mainly Asian graduate students. They are eager to learn, hard working, and respectful toward their professors. I have also taught in Singapore and Indonesia. Cross-cultural experiences are priceless.
lora...this should have been done a long time ago. With acceptance rate for US students of 6-8% in our top Universities is common including all the IVY league Universities, why do we need so many foreign students. US students should come first.
jlgi...I expect paranoid behavior like this from a drunkard at a cheap bar.
marc...This is an absolute requirement to get done. Coming to this country to get educated is a privilege. If you are coming to cause unrest in any format it is unacceptable. This does not infringe on our free speech, it just puts an expectation out there that you should be grateful to be here and learn. Also, many of these grads go back to their respective countries, which is great, but it also means it is not robbing of the best minds in the world to work and live here. We also are not going to be stopping student visas, we will just be making sure those coming aren't already radicalized against our countries beliefs and best interests. There is nothing radical or illegal about making sure those coming align with our interests. Other countries vet our students coming to their institutions, why is it wrong for the US to do that. Lastly, for those so committed to allowing any and all to come to our country, why don't you open up your homes and let them live with you and your families. If it is so beneficial to have all of them here then it would be even more beneficial to your families to have them live with you. Just a thought.
rtmo...This is more driven by Trump's need for constant attention than any real perceived threat to our national security.
kati...Ridiculous
henr...We should encourage our youth to stay off drugs and alcohol, and financially support their higher education.
maro...This is an obvious attempt at pressuring universities to obey the political decisions from the executive branch. The visa’s will continue, but they want to get the message across that you will suffer if you are like Harvard.
lock...Negative because of the opportunities for those that wish to matriculate in the US
jrom...I think the behavior of many current international students suggests a need for oversight. There is nothing positive about lawlessness, violence, and destruction caused by people that are "guests" in our house. Better vetting is needed so that we can indeed bring those best, most positively productive minds to the U.S. We can do both and keep those that would mean us harm out of the country.
shap...They become the best minds because they get to study in the USA.
nanc...These students usually pay full tuition, and domestic students don’t. They also make up a large percentage of graduate students, who are a bedrock in research. While here, they learn what it means to live in a free, open society, which they share upon returning home.
tdhu...I think it’s a good idea to temporarily halt the granting of visas in order to improve our system of vetting foreign students. I believe the Trump administration intends this as a pause to shore up its resources for investigating the social media accounts of applicants. We do benefit from having foreigners study in our universities, but students who promote terrorist organizations such as Hamas ought not study here. Support for Palestine is a good thing, but federally funded institutions should never be bastions for anti-Semitic actions, which is at the heart of sentiment for Hamas.
nisk...Don’t mess with Trump. He is greatest thing that has ever happened to our country. My Trump flag is flying for all to see. Harvard is pathetic, just a bunch of misinformed school teachers.
lori...I support the Trump administration
lee....If you want to know who’s in charge of a government, look at who you can’t criticize. AIPAC owns our greedy, corrupt politicians and they’re doing the bidding of a foreign power while targeting its own citizens and conscientious students opposed to a holocaust.
jaso...One reason the U.S. has been a world leader is because we attract the best talent from around the world through higher education. Many of those who come to study also wish to stay adding to our human capital. The risk these students pose has been highly exaggerated.
jaza...I’m very concerned about losing freedom of speech and diversity of thought, as well as talent from around the world
dana...What is wrong with this guy! Ridiculousness everywhere every day he is mentally unfit!
sara...It's not just the best and brightest- it's about Americans interacting with people form around the world- learning about their culture, language and social norms and vice versa. It's another tool of soft power.
mlan...if those left leaning students want to rant let them do it in GAZA or wherever they feel is better. Not in the USA. Take back our country!
trio...I would say that the "Ivy League" schools probably rely heavily on foreign exhchange student to bolster their overall attendance. Tha negative green line should be blue.
mend...I think the real answer is somewhere in between the two extremes. Definitely need to make sure the colleges are not acting in the way that jeopardizes then also promotes free thinking.
caro...As an educator, our international students are our best and brightest students. The pay high tuitions, value their educational opportunities and follow the rules. Trump makes no sense, he is destroying our systems of law, education, finances, courts, etc. he is intentionally destroying our country and alienating our allies. He is a traitor to our country and a convicted and practicing criminal.
ttes...I believe it is positive. If the "best minds" are coming here to study, their purpose should be just that...to study. Marching and threatening others serves no positive purpose for the US and its citizens.
serg...Anti American students were infiltrsting higher education
vcam...It will be painful to some, but overly due especially to the Chinese!
kfer...Not exactly that
jimg...The richness of America is the sharing of ideas. Great innovation as well as a competitive advantage comes from welcoming talent and people wanting to learn, to do research, and to be of service.
bizh...He is trying to white wash America!
jald...If these schools actually protected Jewish students then they would not have to resort to this. International students don’t have a right to come here and disrupt paying students or create an atmosphere where Jewish students are fearful of going to class. Also about time we crack down on China and try to stop some of there spying. It is a privilege to study in America it is not a right for international students. I also like the idea of using the money that was going to go to Harvard being directed to trade school as I am a craftsman myself and we need more young men and women in the trades.
rksc...Trump continues to demonstrate what an anti-education fool he is. I would be willing to bet that 95% of these kids would or will do significantly better in college than Trump did at Penn
staf...We are toast when we require people to agree with our government before entering
davi...This is unconstitutional act of overreaching I the executive. Did father demonstrates the presidents lack of adherence to the rule of law.
thep...There are many excellent American students whose parents pay taxes that support universities here but can't get admitted to top universities because of spots given to foreign students many of who's parents support regimes that are a threat to global peace.
elev...They are not students, they are activists undermining our nation at taxpayer expense. To say that the best minds are in other countries is an insult to the American student.
lope...This has nothing to do with security of the nation. Just revenge.
tria...This is more performative cruelty that will harm the reputation of the US.
simo...If you read deep into the statistics of where most of these students are from. I find it alarming: India and China. They will basically be taking American knowledge and technology bring it back to their home. We are not loosing the “best minds” the don’t stay anyway. That is one of the ways how China grew their technological capabilities
that...Why wouldn’t we want the smartest people in the world coming to the US to solve problems here?
smat...Really, best minds coming to America and leaving. Why isn’t USA creating these best minds, if we have the teachers to teach others best minds?
rube...Speaking of national security, a foreign agent at the helm could hardly do a better job than this administration to undermine the nation from within.
sall...We need to control who is in our country legally!
geof...Many also remain in the US and provide valuable components of the work force.
rand...It appears that Trump and his MAGA administration has decided to alienate the rest rest of the world and end any positive influence programs we have provided in the past. That statement someone made in Trumps first term - Anything Trump touches Dies is becoming true
caza...Much better screening needed. Keep out those with connections to our enemies and those who are anti-American, anti-capitalism, anti-freedom and anti-semitic. They are entitled to their opinions. They are not entitled to a student visa.
chad...Not only do we lose some of the best minds in the world, allowing this serves a litmus test on what the administration can get away with for citizens as well.
rach...totally overstepping boundaries.
cayo...International medical graduates who have completed the residency match are able to come to the US to work as doctors on J-1 student visas. In an existing physician shortage we are blocking doctors who have already been accepted and taken residency seats that programs will not be able to fill
zack...If we learned one thing under “Biden”. We clearly need to do a better job of vetting who enters this country.
bcwa...Foreign students are pressured to pass back propriety knowledge particularly to China
perm...Aggressive and violent protests are not free speech. The moment a protest interferes with other people, it has crossed the line from peaceful to aggressive. How dare a foreigner, privileged to be in this country as a guest, insert themselves into our government or affairs. If the students are here to study, they should be studying, not screaming, bullying and creating chaos for other students, who also have a right to a calm and safe campus. That behavior reflects an ulterior motive for their presence in the US other than honest study and research.
pete...The poor timing and bad implementation of this policy will cause unnecessary problems for both students and universities. Any small advantage to safety and security on college campuses will be more than offset by losing international students that choose to go elsewhere. This policy change should have been communicated to students and universities (and consulates) well in advance. But no, we have caos as usual with the Trump administration.
cica...Yeah, national security, that’s what all these assholes hide behind while they undermine our national security every day
kmar...The entire structure of the education system needs a reset w less upper management and focus back on the students. It’s a privilege not a right for foreign students to attend school in this country. The focus should be our own students and less on how much revenue the students brings in.
arth...The universities have allowed far too much slack in allowing 1st amendment liberties. Allowing unfettered speech activity and often violence against others had put them in the crosshairs. They have no one to blame but themselves.
pmwr...Why?
berw...A consular interview has always been required for an F1 visa. Enhancing the interview policy to rule out anti-semites and potential student enemies of the US should have been the process all along.
melz...A selective program of awarding student visas should be the end result. Foreign policy emphasizing freedom loving people can be used in the selection process.
dwil...What a deceitfully worded question. "How do you feel about the Trump admin removing student visas of those who come here to promote Islamic terrorism" would get a different answer. But you know that.
shoe...The United States is a leader in academic freedom; it needs to maintain that role of leadership.
mari...Terrible
engr...Focusing on pro-Palestinian protestors that disrupted studies for others. I was in a a university when the Towers fell and certain groups of students actual took to the campus and started cheering, right in the classrooms. It was very disturbing that they were allowed in the country.
cmar...Since when are someone's political views online a basis for admission to this country for study? If the shoe were on the other foot, MAGAns would be screaming.
kold...Negative--international students paying full tuition have substantially lowered the cost of a university education for US students, while also being connected to the US forever, even when they go home. Stupid not to bring them in.
