chas...This question is disingenuous, leading, and harmful. The Colorado attack suspect is an Egyptian national, and therefore not from any of the countries on the ban list. Using this language serves the Trump administration's goals of artificially connecting that tragic incident to the ban, essentially using a domestic attack as an excuse to enact blanket limitations on mainly Muslim-majority nations not linked to the alleged attacker.
alwa...The attacker in Colorado was from Egypt, which is not a country on the ban list. Also, many attacks we have are from people internal to the country! There are people from other countries that have family here or need asylum, this blanketed ban will hurt innocent individuals more.

card...These countries would not even take their deported citizens (specifically those who were proven to be criminals) back, they were relieved to be rid of them and would not want the expense of incarcerating them to protect their own citizens (who can blame them?)...but if they won't vet their own citizens and don't really care for welfare of citizens of other countries that their crime-prone citizens may harm, what security would a foreigner visiting their country have? It does hurt and inconvenience those who have to travel to these countries for work or to visit their families--they do so at their own risk, higher risk because the US will not come to their rescue if they are kidnapped nor will it seek justice if they are killed or harmed.

To enable this there will need to be clear rules of engagement in addition to the technical maintaince of the database, which will are a mixture operating and capital expenses. However, creative solutions for funding those expenses can be set up that won't compromise making the information available for all qualified researchers, not just those backed by a single pharmaceutical company.

mdul...The mapping of the human genome resulted in an asset held in the public domain. There were numerous steps that led to that outcome, easily found through some simple Google searches (e.g. - Human Genome Project Principles and 2013 SCOTUS ruling).

This company was created specifically to make a profit!! You don’t think so? Just asked the NON-Profit CEO how much money they made? hfgu...AI - doesn’t this stand for asinine intuition? Not quite sure what good is going to come of this the verdict is still out and here is just another example of a bad byproduct associated with artificial intelligence. And I haven’t even gotten started yet on the creators biases yet.
laur...Honestly, forcing a binary here is not helpful. I don’t like the broad retention implied in the openAI suit but if a user is suspected (with evidence, etc) of plotting or committing a violent crime or distributing CSAM, I don’t want them to be able to delete evidence.

mdul...I note that the vast majority of responses so far (85%) say that academic research is critical and necessary in solving energy-related issues and that is true. However, let's also not forget that Trump has, and continues to, attack science and research. More than 1,600 NSF grants, totaling over $1.5 billion, have been terminated since April, impacting research institutions and state universities and over half of these terminations are STEM education grants, totaling $773 million in funding loss. Climate is just one of the words that are no longer permitted in Trump's view of science so this fundamental work is likely to come to a halt soon.
