Just facts, you think for yourself

Do you think accusations of “sedition” should apply equally to civilian lawmakers as they do in military justice?

brad...Tired of lawmakers getting away with insider trading, lying and breaking laws that would put me in jail. We need term limits, stronger regulation on lawmakers themselves and put a few of their asses in jail. I can think of more than a dozen of both republicans and democrates that shouldn't be walking free right now.
kvas...This is a Trumped up charge, which automatically means it's a lie. It's sad that this traitorous president diverts attention from his sedition by pointing his perverted finger at Democrats who are trying to prevent his destruction of American democracy. Sadder still that his naive and gullible followers will believe him.
beck...Trump says stupid things but come on, why would these senators say such a thing? They are causing so much chaos in our country and feeding into the crazies! We just don’t need this.
dkes...It is treasonous. Military follows direct of the President and ANYONE attending to re-direct is unlawful
sing...Bogus accusation. Legal precedent allows refusal of illegal orders.
bret...This question is complete nonsense. The statement made by the elected officials is completely correct. Trump's response is frightening. The US could easily see similar horrors as Tanzania if congress doesn't reign in Trump's power grab. Military personnel must absolutely uphold the constitution and refuse unlawful orders. Should they not, American civilians may soon be laying dead in the streets.
tuck...The only ones committing sedition are the orange one and his cronies. Our lawmakers and military have the power to remove them. They need to step up and save this country from this tyranny
beap...This is a blatant lie.
jrv1...I thought the President posted someone else’s statement about hanging. But no none should infer harm to others. What the congress people did was despicable. Asking someone to jeopardize their career by disobeying a command is childish. We need adults in our government
fcse...Trump completely lost it. It’s disgraceful and dangerous rhetoric from the President. He can’t control himself. When will Congress invoke the 25th Amendment since the Cabinet won’t.
jeff...For us to go to war our law makers must approve the formal declaration. To hold them at any standards less than we hold our military to is wrong. If anything the standards should be even higher.
jjpl...I wish I could comprehend the mindset of the 28.7% of people who agree with this?
29ry...It's a poor question. Is the presumption that what the Dem politicians said was "seditious?" It's clearly not, but what if a politician did something actually treasonous, like provide Russia classified information or advocate for Russian war aims in Ukraine? Then, the question becomes interesting.
cger...Democrats are DESPICABLE. They undermine America in EVERY way possible. From INTENTIONALLY allowing millions of unvetted illegal aliens to break our immigration laws and invade our country to egging our military forces to disregard orders to clean up our country from the chaos and anarchy they create.
mdul...The military operates under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), completely separate from the system used outside the military and for good reason. However, the real question here is whether it is sedition (defined as, "conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch") to remind active duty military and intelligence officers of their oaths to the Constitution and their duty to refuse unlawful orders. The answer to that is plainly, no.
becc...I am not sure why Trump didn't get the death penalty then when he encouraged the insurrection at the Capital!
jimk...What a weak question. The real question is do you think Trump is fomenting violence, or do you think service members are being given illegal orders.
ebon...This question is ridiculous. Are you truly asking if innocent Americans should be executed for requested that military officials follow the law over the president’s. He is an elected president, not a monarch or czar
nanc...Our First Amendment is very clear and limits how much the government can punish seditious speech. trump is showing his inability to cope. He’s off the rails.
srda...To refuse a violation of the Constitution is not seditious. Just the opposite. Sickening behavior.
sand...Impeach Trump.
ent....I do t think this issue is about who does accusations of sedition apply to — it’s more about trump’s reaction to restatement of a legitimate legal fact—that military personnel are bound to disregard illegal orders.
smil...Law makers functioning in official capacities must be free to express their views.
atli...Why is it that the knee jerk reaction of the most powerful elected officials is to kill someone? Bizarre.
john...The question does not address the issue. The question should be about the validity of Trump’s accusation.
andr...This is a deeply deceptive question in this context, as the lawmakers in question were urging others to follow the rule of law, not doing anything to explicitly harm the interests of the nation. They were urging legality and constitutionality vs a lawless president.
smoo...The Dems have turned this country into a freak show. Grow the fuck up! We're all sick and tired of the games they are playing and yes hang them from the highest tree!!!!
bjef...Yes, but there is a big caveat: sedition is sedition even if it's the acting president of the US who, pretty much, is the only person in the last 6 years or so of actually trying again and again to over throw the constitution.
ansh...🍊💩
jeda...They are elected officials of our nation. They should be held to the same standard.
mcma...It’s very clear Trump wants to kill democrats. He’s basically told us and publications acting like this is worth debating should close
mori...You avoided the real question. Is it appropriate for the president to talk about hanging people who are using their freedom of speech rights. It is in fact also legally correct what they're saying as well
bfph...The rhetoric is pathetic. The Dems are totally out of line for suggesting troops disobey orders but I’m not sure what can actually be done about it
meli...Baby cry baby needs to shut up
usct...Trump uses words he cannot define. The code of military justice allows disobedience of unlawful orders. Following orders got Nazis hung at Nuremberg. Plus, the oath of service personnel is to the United States Constitution, not to Trump. Expressing an opinion is not sedition. Disagreeing with Trump is not treason.
wtpr...Politicians are corrupt and never held accountable. They are public servants like military are as well. The threat of death would keep the corruption from happening. Especially as they lie and pad their pockets like Pelosi.
aunt...Members of the military take a vow to UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION. If they are given orders in violation/illegal orders, they should be supported in their refusal
ocds...Stupid question. The real question should be how ridiculous is the Orange buffoon? Or Does violent rhetoric from the president help or hurt the country? Or how many children did Orange Guy molest? 10-20; 21-50; 50+?
blik...They left the Military, returned to civilian status. However, they have seriously degraded their own status as Honorable Veterans, and only the leftwingers with TDS will continue to give them respect deserving of an Honorable Veteran. Shame.
msyk...But this questions seems a really odd take on this story, because it gives the impression that sedition was actually involved. How in the world could it be considered seditious to remind military personnel of their oath of service and the requirements of the Uniform Code of Military Justice not to obey unlawful orders?
cats...Trump is insane or senile or both. He freaks anytime someone disagrees with him.
came...What these lawmakers are doing is treason
spro...Trump is trolling and got you folks on the left again, you are born suckers. He simply said what the law was and you all took the bait…again 😂 These lawmakers who made the video suggesting but not naming one illegal command should know our real enemies are watching and stop with the clown show. Political hacks with no substance or policies, just hating, fighting and resisting Trump is all they know how to do. It’s kind of sad and giving us some good laughs on the right.
twin...This president is a hater and putin puppet. He does not uphold the laws of our country and wants to change all laws for his benefit and NOT the benefit of our country. Shame on him! He needs to be impeached!
lnsd...Trump is dangerous. Congress should consider the 25th Amendment.
delo...Hurtful words never ends well
lora...Yes, these six Senators should be arrested for treason and insurrection by making these remarks on a video. These Senators know that this will stimulate some radical from persons who have mental issues. Trump is right in this case since these officials should know better.
andr...This seems like another wild exaggeration from Trump for political means. Similar to the Democrats push to call the 2020 election fallout "insurrection". This is all political theater. No different than when Trump does it vs the Dems.
vita...They take out an oath to protect the country and uphold the constitution just as military people do what the fuck is the difference?
donn...Of course! Sedition is traitorous!!!what these lawbreaking numbskulls say is asking for rebellion against our duly elected President AND country!!!!Get over it, loser demoRATS.
chiu...Communist libs will say anything. They have no agenda themselves but to try to trash Trump. Sorry state of affairs.
sara...Going down a dictator’s path if we allow people to violate the constitution. Very dangerous.
agba...It is not sedition for these Democratic representatives to inform/remind the troops about the law and constitution.
dk30...Yes. Those 6 should be in prison!
luke...Sedition? Traitors? (cough-cough) Anyone remember January 6th?
ayes...This is crazy! Nobody should be put to death for attempting to stand up for their rights and the rights of others. For anyone to even suggest a thing is hideous
gabr...Just dumb. As a veteran, I know that when we are in, we are taught to refuse illegal orders. If you are asked to do something illegal, you can (and should) refuse. Right? Right??
asma...What ridiculousness is this?!?! People are allowed to speak their opinions in this country. Or at least they used to be, without threats of hanging!!!!! Wtaf?!
coj1...It is not sedition to disobey unlawful orders, in fact it is illegal to knowingly obey unlawful orders.
sale...Even more so.
chri...Hard to believe anyone supports Trumps comments on this issue. What has happened to America?!
suet...I don’t feel that these statements were at all seditious. These individuals were reminding those who have taken oaths to uphold the constitution and laws have the right to say no.
dkow...For sedition by someone in the general public; probably not. Sedition by federally elected or appointed officials; yes, absolutely
alex...HE IS A FUCKING DICTATOR YOU MORONS! I KNOW YOU ALL HAVE BELOW 100 IQ, BUT FOR FUCK SAKE DO YOU WANT AMERICA TO BE THE NEXT RUSSIA?
jmla...Trump’s defiance of court orders and threats of death and violence against government officials who simply state what the law is under the UCMJ, Article 92, IS THE REAL TREASON! He knows nothing about the Code of Military Justice! He is not just a Moron. He is pure evil.
dral...If elected officials, paid by the us government, perform sedicous acts they should be prosecuted
susa...You missed the boat on this question. The question should be: should the President of the United States be calling for the execution of members of Congress who do not agree with his actions and directives.
mars...The issue here is not whether this was sedition (it’s not) but the fact that POTUS is calling for the EXECUTION of lawmakers!!
mars...Disobeying illegal orders is not sedition. Military personnel and elected members of Congress take an oath to the Constitution. Appointed officials do the same as does the president. With only a very few exceptions elected and appointed Republicans have failed to uphold their oath. They have no courage to do the right thing, instead they bow down to Trump because of their cowardice and loss of moral and ethical compass. They don’t have a monopoly, Democrats aren’t clean either.
pfor...We shouldn't even be having this conversation. Trump is way over the line in his rhetoric! What an absolute embarrassment. And the 'silent' Republicans are nearly as bad.
kath...Yes, however the Military definition is not what pres trump is suggesting- the expectation of not following unlawful orders is a tenet of military leadership. The military serves the constitution NOT a president. If anyone meets the definition of crimes against democracy and the constitution it is Donald trump and his wholly unqualified cabinet. For them I would be happy to see military justice handed out
agar...he is a crazy man, get him out of office
hine...Freedom of speech applies equally to all Americans. If that type of speech is seditious in a military court then it should be in a civil court too. The problem with “freedom” of speech is whether it is only allowed in a form of peaceful protest as written in the same article of Constitution or whether the speech was done intentionally to incite non-compliance with the law. Stating the obvious isn’t against the law. But stating it with the intent to imply that the opposite is what has happened is sedition, and because of their public positions it is manipulation of the public with intent to cause anarchy.
robl...Any person who works for and represents the government should face the same standard and codes
kelt...these people have high offices and made rebellious statements
thom...Get real. Are these the days of Napoleon Bonaparte?
cove...As a law enforcement officer, I can tell you this is why our legal system is failing. When civilian lawmakers encourage defiance, it only makes law enforcements job that much harder. I'm not saying they deserve the death penalty, but this country needs to have law and order.
tpgr...This is a form of checks and balances for the military just like the three co-levels of government are (were) a form of checks and balances within the government.
debb...He doesn’t like what he hears & this is the stupid response he throws out there. Just a little cuckoo

How do you view the impact of lifting tariffs on Brazilian beef and coffee on U.S. consumers?

  • 85% Mostly positive
  • 8% Mostly negative
  • 7% Unsure

EmailComments
rjna...In typical Trump “ready, fire, aim” leadership I expect other tariff rollbacks to occur as the results of those actions become apparent.
cats...The tariffs may be lifted. However, that doesn’t mean consumer prices will come down.
greg...40% & 50% were a defacto embargo on Brazilian coffee. I run a small coffee roaster and missed my harvest allocation because of these nonsense tariffs that accomplished nothing positive and didn't even achieve their stated purpose. Summer harvest went largely to Europe and China.
rita...We need help. Anything. Food prices are higher than Paris France and Thailand where I recently traveled and shopped in grocery stores. Why is that okay?
cher...Should never have happened in the first place!
ocds...Create a problem that hurts people. Partially solve that problem. Claim victory. Idiocracy.
dkes...We should not REFUND anything but going forward set new limits. This is the problem with the national debt. STOP ALREADY!!! This country is broke fir the amount of ridiculous spending
cica...How about lifting most of the tariffs if not all of them.? they’re just contributing to inflation and the price of virtually everything. Another thought. If the Italians are dumping pasta here, how come the price of the Italian pasta I buy is still ridiculously high? Grocery store is keeping Their price is high.
less...Trump does not use tariffs as an economic tool. He uses them as punishment.
kvas...In an honorable administration, the use of tariffs has a strategic place. This administration is anything but honorable. Orange Boy has demonstrated a deep and pathetic need to stay in the spotlight, and he has discovered that imposing, then removing, then re-imposing, then altering tariffs keeps the attention on him. That's all this megalomaniac wants ... oh, other than lining his corrupt pockets with homage he can extort from supplicants.
rjre...As with most of his bully techniques this failed and cost the US Consumers big money!
cran...We have plenty of beef in the US and don't need to provide special privielges to other countries.
matt...Should have never been levied to begin with how big was trade deficit with Brazil to begin with
lora...Trump knows what he is doing in getting costs down and to prevent foreign countries taking advantage of the American people. Trump knows how to regulate and negotiate the tariffs to benefit the American people. The Democrats just increase taxes on the American people to pay for their corrupt spending for illegal immigrants.
suzc...Tariffs shouldn’t have been imposed in the first place and I do not believe consumers will see any sort of relief from the higher prices. Another example of this administration’s ineptness.
grif...Too little to late. He has already done the damage and we will pay it for years.
gfie...Should have never done it in the first place.
rmby...Very ironic that the big lie was that tariffs would not have a financial impact on the economy or American consumer. As noted in the article the rollback is to help the economy and help food prices. Americans pay the price everytime.
bjef...They never should have been levied.
lmcm...There is something wrong with our Domestic market -regulations? Taxes? other governmental interference? - which is preventing American farmers from being able to compete price and quality with beef brought here from other countries. I buy locally grass fed and finished natural beef, and my prices are still reasonable. The prices I see at big union grocers are astounding; ALDI is much more reasonable, but still higher than my local producers.
char...As a US beef producer, I am concerned about the negative impact this will have on our industry. Flooding the supply chain with imported beef will hurt the prices we recieve for our beef. Coffee isn't the same because we don't produce it in the US.
nanc...Taco strikes again. Maybe trump should think things through before letting his emotions take over. That will never happen. Such a crazy in the White House.
pete...The tariffs have been a huge mistake and the sooner they are roled back the better.
wynn...All of his tariffs have been idiotic so rollbacks are necessary
msyk...Lift ALL the tariffs.
jrav...Positive in that consumers desperately needed the relief but negative in that this is a crisis entirely of Trump's own making. This is as much proof as his resistance to negotiation during the shutdown that he's completely fine inflicting pain on the American people for his cruel, arbitrary reasons that he creates and then ameliorates when it's no longer profitable to him.
andr...I mostly think tariffs are a bad thing, so this seems good.
mdul...Almost 100% of people voted and should vote to say it is mostly positive since the entire tariff trade war has done nothing but worsen conditions for Americans. Once again, Trump creates an enormous mess, then reverses course to try to put things back as they were while claiming that he actually won something.
meli...Criminal Don instituted illegal tariffs, why hasn’t he been arrested ?
cger...When the Biden administration bought American taxpayers vote by handing out $2T and causing inflation to surge to 9% costs of food sky rocketed upwards of 60-80% more sending gas to $5.00 a gallon. Trump is doing everything in his power to restore some affordability to America after the chaos and anarchy of our 2nd worst President EVER!!! (Biden was only surpassed by Buchanan who led to the civil war)
pjpa...There’s going to be plenty of fine tuning of the tariffs
susa...The problem with beef prices is a meat packing monopoly of sorts.
rita...Coffee prices are ridiculously high. Tariffs the cause. I don’t eat much beef so not much impact. But I realize lifting those tariffs will help make dt people too.
atli...Why not lift 100% of all tariffs on all products for all countries and invite them to do the same. The world wide economy would boom.

The U.S. added 119,000 jobs in September, surpassing expectations, yet the unemployment rate also rose. What best explains this contradiction?

  • 67% Job gains are overstated due to data revisions
  • 25% More people started looking for work but didn’t find jobs immediately
  • 8% Other

EmailComments
andr...No idea. The administration probably is juicing the numbers. Similar to how every administration does it.
robs...While job # revisions have become notorious, the significant AI driven layoffs under way across Tech & Retail will also drive significant job gains as those people find new jobs.
bjef...I don't trust any information being released by the federal government now that Trump has eliminated all the neutral positions and installed his "loyal" sycophants to provide the information. Would you?
agba...How can we trust any data or information coming from "the liar and chief" and his administration.
mike...When you gut the Bureau of Labor Statistics there are fewer people to collect and crunch the numbers. It appears numbers can be manipulated.
tubi...fake news. his lacky's are scared to provide the reality of his ridiculous lack of direction and self enrichment schemes.
ocds...The gov't is lying. Duh.
lora...Several people do not want to work especially young people. Their are plenty of jobs but some people use the excuse it is not the job they want. These people need to work and if they do not like their job, they have the freedom to keep looking while they work. There are still lots of companies hiring and hiring signs are every where. No excuse if you are not working!!
john...Cannot trust info coming out of this government.
kris...If those figures came out of this administration, they cannot be trusted anyway. With Trump and the Republicans in power all these numbers are going to be made up.
mven...I don't trust the jobs report. ADP likely has more accurate data.
cger...Liar in chief just can’t hide the bad news no matter who he fires.
debb...Maybe....just maybe..... the Democrats' shutdown mistake caused a few thousand of the 42,000,000 we learned are collecting food dole handouts to GO LOOKING FOR REAL EARNINGS POTENTIAL for a change. A job? A new service gig as in entrepreneurship???? Ya think?
shad...This report is misrepresented by our administration.
jjpl...Revisions, and lost data due to the extended government shutdown.
suet...It is infuriate any data that comes from this administration is suspect due to the individuals that are placed in positions they are most likely not qualified to be in. As well as having been given mandates to make the administration look favorable.
lala...I don’t fully trust the government that it’s producing quality jobs days. The reason for the somewhat contradictory data is probably a combo of both your other options?
brad...There will be a downward revision on October’s numbers.
kvas...I say "other" because this could just be a matter of waiting and taking the time to let one stat catch up with the other. Next month, unemployment could go down because more jobs were created this month.
spro...Replacing federal jobs with ones in the real world takes time. At least Americans are finally trying to work again.
tomd...It sounds like a typical "skills mix" situation to me - some companies are laying off those with surplus skills (more skilled workers than demand) while others are hiring people of other skills that currently are in demand. As a middle manager (now retired), I have seen this happen many times within my own company. Thus, this is not uncommon and should not be cause for concern. Some business ebb while others flow, and that can and does easily reverse at any time.
gssc...Many reports are skewed. Unemployment numbers are the most skewed. They don't include the millions who are "not in the job market" and aren't working.
bret...Why would restaurants be hiring when restaurant stocks are mostly struggling? Many chains as well as independent restaurants are closing locations. Costs are higher. Consumers are mostly struggling except the investor class.
dkow...Job force invaded by 470K. That really says it all. Hopefully more find jobs in the coming months. Importantly, I don’t think AI will displace as many workers as some estimates claim. I also think is people who learn how to use AI will displace people who don’t.

Is it justified for the U.S. to intervene near Venezuela to stop Russian oil shipments?

  • 52% Yes
  • 37% No
  • 11% Unsure

EmailComments
cger...Ever hear of the MONROE DOCTORINE? Democrats would love for us to become another Venezuela. God forbid.
walk...To have a different outcome, need a different approach; to handling Russia problem
rjna...Unless the US is prepared for a long drawn out entanglement in the Ukraine war we must find ways to impact Russia’s resources for carrying out the war. This action is enforcing sanctions we placed on Russia.
dkes...Yes stop feeding the drug cartels
aunt...What happened to Venezuelan oil?
cynt...I’m not sure we have any business intervening between two other countries - we’re not at war with either. WE can stop buying Russia’s oil but we can’t stop every other other country from buying.
marc...33.9% of you favor Russia and Brazil over American interests? Seriously, get help
kvas...JFK demonstrated that America will protect its interests, especially when threats occur in or near North or South America. His actions were necessary, because the USSR was trying to plant nuclear missiles in Cuba. The current administration is less trustworthy in their motivations. Is stopping Russian oil from reaching Venezuela comparable to stopping Soviet missiles from reaching Cuba? Probably not, but not out of the question. If it were another, more trustworthy president, I might give them the benefit of the doubt, but not this president.
jreg...If we are going to impose sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine then we should go "all in" and cut off the only source of revenue they possess: oil exports. The US (and our allies ( at least the ones still willing to work with us)) have the naval and other resources available to HALT every drop of Russian oil from being exported. Every drop. Turn off the oil cash flow and Putin's attitude about his invasion of Ukraine will change.
john...An illegal act of war on the part of the US intended to harm innocent people in hopes of intimidating retaliation. A disgrace.
bjef...A lot more than killing Venezuelans.
tomd...So long as it doesn't pose a DIRECT threat to the US, I believe that is an issue between Russia and Venezuela.
lora...Trump is trying to end the war in Ukraine which has killed millions of people on both sides. He is doing the right thing in trying to stop the war.
nanc...Isn’t that what a Sanction is supposed to do?
meli...Is Putin ready to show the pee tape and all the rest he’s been holding over the felon for years? Party is over trumpy.
cats...America needs to mind its own business.
