tubi...while it could have been a positive, strategic move, trump is little more than an idiot with money and has screwed it up, royally.
soto...He should be focusing on how to make things more affordable instead of engaging in erratic trade wars that will not result in his desired outcome.
rene...It shows a lack of a strategic plan. Border enforcement is not the real reason especially for Canada
brod...Swerving wildly and careening madly with serious issues that affect the well-being of millions.
joyc...Clueless. Endangering the integrity of America and our democracy
mari...Trumps bully tactics will not work, but he is enabled by the orange court and thus this shit show will continue
lisa...I'm still stuck on 'HOW' did this happen was back in in 2016 (obviously didnt go well) And he's back worse than ever. And so, prompt To public, wherever, whenever, of 'Do you think think this is Normal for a intelligent & thoughtful society' ? It's our civil duty to make this madness, destruction, hate stop. Does our military stand with Us the US, or are they puppets, pawns for the king?
timm...You need a new set of subscribers. The people that voted negatively have obviously never been in strategic negotiations before. That's what he's doing, just on a World stage. It'll all work out and mostly in the USA’s favor.
apph...He threatens, sets a percentage, walks it back. He doesn’t seem to understand that tariffs will hurt the US, too.
dnto...This is a man who is either stupid or deliberately ignores advice on what a terrific means OR it is a smoke screen while he and his mates make themselves rich while distracting the masses with stupid behaviour.
rosy...If you are truly trying to present this neutrally, then the poll should also be neutral. Negative and erratic is an emotional answer. I view the tariffs as negative and strategic. They are to increase the opportunity for American Corporations to monopolize business, regardless of the expense to the average American
mich...He is a buffoon whomsl should be immediately kicked out of office. Let the Republicans stand up for what is right and get rid of him. What are they afraid of? How can any thinking person support this convicted felon, this insane self-serving misogynist, who know NOTHING about economics? He will drive the U.S. into the ground! Get ready for another great depression!
pwei...The strategy is get companies to reshore manufacturing, allow Trump to have fun trolling people and maybe get some additional tariff revenue. This comes at a cost of less competitive industry, higher prices and weakened foreign alliances. So much winning!
ejh1...STUPID EGOMANIAC HE IS A RUSSIAN OPERATIVE IN THE WHITE HOUSE
rsta...Trump arbitrarily assesses random tariffs with no explanation other than immigration and fentanyl...idiotic reasons!!
rgar...wait and see. long term effects will be good
19pi...I believe it will hurt the economy more.
dawn...He's manipulating the market for his personal gain. Every time he says he's adding tariffs the market goes down then he suspends them and the market goes back up. Put him in jail!
zeus...The United States needs money it’s in a hole because people not delegating or being responsible with the power that they had I worked for the federal government. I’m retired and I saw plenty of abuse lazy people work is not doing their duty if you told them what to do they claim racism That’s unacceptable. I was born in the United States and I’m a very patriotic. My family came from Puerto Rico and Argentina, I’m a hard worker so my parents and so on my children my children have paid for their education. We don’t need foreigners here and we pay their education when the government doesn’t help us pay our children’s education no other country would allow illegal people in their country in their land telling them what to do after we are graciously allow them to come in and we’re feeding them. I understand there’s people hungry all over the world, but there’s people hungry in the United States. Also, we should take care of our own people First all these people that are out of work now because of sending things overseas well those projects were supposed to be temporary not permanently and people that are in the federal government. Yes I have called Medicare many times in over a year and you had to make an appointment or they hang up on you everybody that’s working and slacking so I think he’s doing a great job.
micc...He’s a felon and a liar. He is dragging this country down
bune...Describes both the policy and the President. Embarrassing, corrupt, unlawful, and frightening time for the US.
pwwe...The devil is a liar
scoo...Who are in their right mind think this is good?
ahop...He’s taking us into a recession
jodu...Good for Ontario, what else can they do when they're dealing with a fool.
fmge...Trump's policies are based on emotion and retribution, not facts.
royc...He is an idiot. He wants to run government like it’s his private business. But, he couldn’t even run his private businesses correctly. Besides that he is a criminal that needs to be behind bars, not trying to do his version of trades with other countries.
shei...Disorder and confusion
mbcu...He’s a moron.
rgto...Positive and erratic.
pcbr...Chaotic, totally ineffective and in Canada’s case wholly inappropriate.
andr...He's reversed himself three times in one month. Markets have tanked as a result, economists are predicting stagflation, and consumer confidence is on the decline. Anyone calling that "positive and strategic" is a true believer whose read on the economy is conditioned by ideology, not information.
mah3...There is no policy. He is a narcissist and a bully. If the other leaders aren’t kissing his ring or stroking his ego he throws a temper tantrum. That’s what we are witnessing. He has people believing that he is making the United States stronger but all he is doing is reneging on our commitments, destroying historical alliances and leaving a vacuum for other countries, like China, to fill. Unfortunately the US is no longer a leader in the world. It is an embarrassment
caro...Strategic but LOOKS erratic. It looks negative now but he always seems to have something up his sleeve…
ford...Everything about Trump is erratic and detrimental to the world order and sound functioning of the United States government. He really can’t be impeached soon enough to save our democracy.
rtst...He’s insane.
lawl...Absolutely makes no sense. He is an embarrassment. He is not establishing any kind of leadership policy with his back and forth threats. Now he has just kicked the can on down the road for a month so he can pull the same stunts again.
geor...Erratic is a nice word for what is really happening. This looks way too much like Hitler’s first 54 days in power- scary!
cb10...What a F-ing chaotic mess!
anne...If tariffs worked, we ALL would have been using them for decades.
kern...Trump is a psychopath that is jeopardizing America's prosperity. He is incompetent for the role of the President and should be removed from office
lari...Can you add the option "needs to have more information". The thing is that everything happens so fast that is difficult to follow and make an opinion or tell a direction because "I am missing still...information".
ctmy...People seem to be very short sided. We think only about today and not the future. I am proud of Pres. Trump and know that this is a temporary move.
pdxy...I just wanted to see who your readers are.
mich...He is a monkey with a hammer.
cica...Whatever everyone wants to think of the previous administration they did have an actual plan. And it was rational. They kept in place some of Trump’s original tariffs, and they added a few more targeted tariffs meant to strengthen some of our other industries. What Trump‘s doing with the tariffs this time is basically an act of war.
wspe...Talk about losing friends. Trump is making the U.S. look bad in the eyes of the world. But he must be making Putin happy.
bigs...crazy man!!
jimm...He’s a low grade, window licking, moron. I can’t believe a senile idiot is leading our country and a South African drug addict, on the spectrum, is helping him. WTF!!!
mlm1...Horrible president & person
jrfu...He is a bully and a moron!
rmby...He doesn’t care about workers or middle class with his deranged trade wars. It is the everyday working people who will suffer. Certainly, not him he is finding every possible way to route money to his family & businesses. That includes cutting medicare, medicaid, social security, cancer research, veteran hospital expenses & support services, education for our children. The list keeps going to support his multi trillion dollar tax cuts for him, musk and billionaires. Everything is for power & lining his pockets.
patr...He is ruining our relationship with the rest of the free world.
bcar...He's destroying my meager retirement investment with his crazy non-sensical tariffs. And yet, I still have to pay federal taxes on my SS income. He doesn't care since he does not pay any taxes as far as we know.
dave...No one perhaps not even Trump himself seems to know his goal.
perm...You cannot correct in two months what has taken 4 years, or more, to become unbalanced. Any change that strengthens the US economically, militarily and educationally is a positive change.
nhen...Too drastic to our neighbors.
jmic...Bullying our Allies may produce short-term concessions but at the cost of long-term cooperation, which will hurt us in the future.
fran...We give up way too much with exports being taxed into Mexico and Canada without any reciprocity here. They limit certain commodities and we do not do the same. I like the leveling aspect of this policy and we need to keep the pressure on our trading partners to level the economic impact here.
avaa...Lock him up he's a felon and has no idea how to run a government with a constitution
medl...I can’t determine if there is an ultimate end game that is best for the country or if the Presidents moves are purely for personal gain. Will the country be richer, stronger for it or just him.
debs...Trade war is not a sensible strategy to reduce illegal immigration or drug trafficking. Look to the border deal that was negotiated last year before Trump pushed to strike it down.
kfhe...After doing some intense research on the tariff strategies via economics and the goal off making th U.S. Self sufficient, I am in agreement with the policies. The ultimate goal will be worth the short term pain.
amy....He’s an idiot, period, end of story.
rach...Trump reminds me of Hitler!
pjsm...The King of bankruptcies knows little about governance or economics.
piep...you’re hurting the manufacturing companies in this country some products we can’t even get in this country. It’s gonna cause a big problem for the small business people, and that needs to be considered.
mary...Petty and vindictive.
to55...He changes his mind too much , he is unstable and is showing signs of dementia , among many other disorders
pfor...The man is deranged.
over...I love my Canadian neighbors. I love my Mexican neighbors. We should be working collaboratively with them, not treating them like adversaries.
mark...I'm afraid the US will go the way of the Trump Casinos. BANKRUPT
tomd...I believe we actually have 2 BIG problems 1) Trump's erratic trade policy and other changes. They need to thoughtfully consider the unintended consequences. 2) The news media's extreme overemphasis of the possible doomsday scenarios. I can't help but think the most likely scenarios would likely come with a few very manageable challenges that we will overcome. What worries me the most is the media scaring the public (investor community, etc.) into a self-fulfiling prophecy situation.
mike...Erratic at best with what appears to be a lack of homework on impacts, just sensationalism.
mdul...There is no trade policy, per se. Even now, after all of this sound and fury, his goals remain unclear. It's even unclear whether he has any goals other than self-aggrandizement. In his most recent call with Canada's Trudeau, he and JD Vance said that the amount of fentanyl coming from Canada was not the metric he is using but he refused to disclose if there is any actual metric. Seeking solely to bolster his ego by having others capitulate to his every whim is not trade policy.
ppoi...An opportunity for arbitrage for him and his rich friends. Since corruption act cannot be enforced by executive order, time for inside trading... Announce tariffs= stock market goes down = buy stocks low = announce auto tariff reprieve = auto stocks go up / sell = announce additional reprieve = those stocks go up / sell high. How many months in a row can they create quick money??
boyd...It will lower the standard of living for all Americans!
neal...Trump is an ignorant asshole who will destroy the USA as we know it.
olen...Trump is the worst President of the US. He doesn't know history, economy, politics. He is an absolute disgrace to out country.
reed...I feel like there is a petulant child running the country.
andr...Need i elaborate? He's siding with the Russians
smcc...Bipolar
cait...I work for a wholesale club retailer. The tariff situation has created chaos for our business. We've had to renegotiate offers 4x. We've never seen anything like this
mkeh...He's a traitor and is taking our country back wards. I can't believe people didn't see this coming
dian...Trump has no rational knowledge about economics and is ruining our relationship with our allies, something we cannot afford to have happen, especially since his foreign policy is leading to possible military confrontation.
dunn...Recognizing that some of the tariff talk is a negotiating ploy, the Administration seems very uninformed about the real world impacts of tariffs and their erratic policies
hele...He doesn’t appear to have a clue about what he’s doing
jly0...What a scumbag psychopath that is running our country!!!
adel...He’s a dangerous idiot
golf...Whip lash politics is poor governing. It is also manipulating the stock market so those in the know can reap profits knowing when to buy and sell. Basicly screwing most Americans.
dpit...He's an idiot.
babe...He is the stupidest person ever. It is obvious his brain is scattered.
ehde...His entire presidency has been erratic. That’s what happens when someone has absolutely no idea what they are doing. He couldn’t care less about anyone but himself and his billionaire friends. He is well on the way the destroying this country’s economy and alienating us from every ally we have. They are firing people in critical job positions then trying to rehire them. They should have never been let go to start with. I agree there is a lot of wasted money in our government but they are doing what’s equal to winding a watch with a sledge hammer.

How do you view the EU's latest moves?

  • 75% Favorably, the EU should take responsibility for its own defense
  • 17% Negatively, it weakens America's sphere of influence
  • 8% Other

EmailComments
rgar...It is time for the socialists in Europe to pony up for their own defense instead of taking advantage of our capitolism and over generosity.
band...I had to choose "other" because I agree with both options. Yes, absolutely the EU needs to take responsibility to defend themselves against the greatest threat by far since the Cold War ended-- Russia under Putin. There's no doubt many EU countries leaned on the US military (at US Tax payer expense). Second is also very true. Given how the Trump administration is so enamored with Putin (and Trump apparently has always been a Putin fan-boy) EU is already moving away from US as a reliable partner. Also anyone who thinks the US defense industry is going to be the big winner of these extra billions in defense spending is as deluded as Trump (and Musk). The Europeans already have a very capable arms industry which will certainly be the prime beneficiary. Nobody wants to be at the mercy of the US whose leader can throw a tantrum at a moment's notice and constantly threaten them with being cut off. The end result of all this will probably result in one of Putin and Trump's prime goals-- the US leaving NATO. The only question now is going to be which happens first-- the US saying "I'm taking my ball and going home" or the EU saying 'get out and don't let the door hit you in the a**".
jrfu...I completely agree that the EU should organize and begin taking a much more significant role in their own security but I do not agree that the US should abandon theme and support Russia.
pjsm...BOTH. the EU can no longer view the Republicans as reliable partners.
pcbr...EU should increase their investments in their own defense but the US should maintain their support at current levels to counter Russia.
lisa...Yes, all countries take responsibility and yet, NATO was the best idea, the coming together for other ideas aside from war. The US made the biggest mistake with drumph
duck...WE LL NEED TO HELP EACH OTHER
mike...EU NATO spending has been less than their commitment for too many years.
dian...Nothing can weaken America's spehere of influence more than Trump's current foreign policy debacle has already done and continues to do. He has alienated almost all of our allies. He better hope we don't need them. Maybe he's counting on Putin!
mrse...The EU will soon be able to move independently from us instead of being reliant on our power and protection. Who knows what issues arise in the future where the EU will be in a stronger position to challenge us?
miss...Their moves are essential as the US has proven to be unreliable
jodu...Since the US has abandoned the EU, what other choice did they have? This is a big loss for the US.
mary...We are now aligned with Russia against Europe.
tubi...its a good move on their part. the US should be helpful as needed.
perm...Europe should step up in this regard. The US is constantly vilified for our policing of other countries, until they want our dollars. Our sphere of influence will be strengthened by a balance of funding and policies which protect ourselves first and then assistance to our allies as needed.
bkbr...The EU is broke. Most European governments are broke dealing with the results their own immigration policies. Time will tell. The EU is not positioned to rescue Ukraine.
joer...Europe doesn't weaken America's influence, the USA retreats in favor of Russia, so Europe needs to attend to its ability to defend itself. This will also reduce European orders of US weaponry and boost European suppliers. Smart move, if you want to dissolve an 80 year old (and working) partnership (NATO) against Russian occupation.
apph...America should NOT recognize Putin as anything less than a dictator. We should still be helping Ukraine. I’m grateful that our allies have morals and are stepping up.
lhap...Trump has decided to side with the dictators, leaving the EU to champion Western values. Luckily they have stepped into the breach.
dkel...I am undecided
mari...The EU will certainly take the lead given the US has abandoned them, and yes this will certainly leave a lasting impression with other allies. The US cannot be counted on.
rmby...Nice Europeans are supporting Ukraine. However, why the heck are we now Putin’s puppets? Our president is a Russian asset.
pros...The latest moves of EU will favorite EU. However, it will spike the militarization of the world and stupid waste of resources (instead of research and social programs, EU will spend on rockets and tanks). NATO was formed to protect the alliance against its adversaries. But the current USA administration challenges the unity and integrity of the alliance and in the same time provides a wrong signal to the autocratic states.
golf...Favorably, because US can't be counted on for a least 4 years.
sara...Terrible decision. We are a global community and should be acting like it.
robs...For decades, the EU said they couldn’t do it. Not even Putin’s invasion of Ukraine could intelligently motivate them! Now, because of Trump, they (aka Germany … what about the rest of the EU?) budget a huge $700 billion defense budget over night! Incredible! And, 40 years too late! The EU owes the U. S. an extraordinary sum of money for defense and deterrence over the past 40 to 80 years! Even with providing them with the grace of free defense during the rebuilding of Europe for the first 40 years, Europe should at least reimburse the U.S. for the second 40 years since the end of WWII in 1945 … like 50% of our annual $1trillion defense budget for the past 40 years equals $20 trillion USD owed by the EU to the U.S.!!!!!! The U.S. should be given Greenland on a silver platter along with all of the wine, Scotch whisky, chocolate, cheese, castle tours and river cruises we can consume for free over the next 40 years!
atli...EU should break from US but not by spending more on defense rather more on meeting social needs of its people.
rene...This makes sense to me. Europeans should have both the responsibility along with the ability to directly impact their locale. I ask myself the question…”Why should the US have the ability to pull strings, as though controlling puppets over their own scenarios?” If Europeans desire support it seems more normalized they have the ability to ask, as opposed to being directed how they should perform or choose their course.
cica...Yes, the EU needs to take more responsibility for its own common defense. But we also need to strengthen NATO, which is all of our common defense. Not weaken it and destroy it, which is what the president is doing today. It’s quite simple: there is safety in numbers, and you can do a lot more with friends than you can all by yourself. Tyrants, despots and crazy people drunk with power don’t attack nations and alliances that are stronger than they are.
arth...Standing in the spotlight has its definite drawbacks. I’m ready to let Europe lead for awhile. They had their problems doing this in the prelude to WWII. Maybe they can be more successful this time around. Isolation is looking better and better.
mend...We are the only ones that can weaken our sphere of influence and security, and Donald is working on it
alex...The EU should take responsibility for its defense. Especially the financial responsibility, but I believe it is a mistake for the US to remove its influence. Frankly I have to put SLIGHT credibility into Trump being a Russian asset. I wish his actions showed a different story.
andr...It's not an either-or. Europe should take more responsibility for its own defense, but the US should also remain a stalwart ally who invests in transatlantic security.
mich...The EU must fill the gap Trump has created with his shameless buffoonery. He is helping Russia defeat Ukraine. He is making a mockery of all the U.S. stands for. What happened to his common sense? Oh.... I forgot.... He has never had any
dnto...In the face of USA stupidity it is good to see Europe and UK and NATO countries taking action. How pathetic of Trump to abandon NATO when the relationship resulted in support to USA post 9/11 attacks.
patr...It is both favorable for Europe and negative for the US.
kfhe...The EU is long overdo for contributing its proportionate financial and military share in defense!
reed...they're smart to pull back when trump threatens and bullies because they can't trust him. we've insulted them and the world and the u.s.
shei...Both choices r correct
to55...It shows independence from Trump's irratic behavior and Untrustworthy Trump
gsch...Both are somewhat true
robe...It’s not that the EU hasn’t already taken responsibility for its own defense and support of Ukraine but what the US is doing clearly weakens our influence. EU will find a way to add my money to their defense and the US becomes a bit player.
moni...Both of these responses are true. It would be better for Europe to be independent from a chaotic, unstable traitor and it also reduces our sphere of influence with our strongest allies. Trump is a disaster for this country.
char...Terrorism is a global threat; Europe should step up and America should stand alongside, not bail out. We should maintain amicable relations without bending over backwards with peaceful nations worldwide. The bad actors are getting their way when the others disagree. It is called divide and conquer.
suzh...Ii applaud them united against a backstabbing tyrant! I applaud them supporting Ukraine. Trump betrayal is narcissistic and unconscionable. EU should sanction Trump US. Time to pug the bully in place. I’m in the EU SUDE FIR THE RIGHT REASONS. TRUMP IS THE NEW HITLER…only worse.
norm...America needs to continue to have a role in world order.
wilj...I view this as both positive and negative. The EU should take more responsibility for issues in Europe, but the US should still support through NATO membership.
darb...We can continue to help out but Europe must pay their FAIR SHARE .
amuk...I’m
kevi...The answer is all the above.... Again, weird question framing...
1bri...It's both. We're completely destroying our international relationships... but also, the EU needs to take more responsibility for their own care and defense.
brad...Absolutely, the U.S. can no longer carry this burden, nor should it ever have taken it on. Our sphere of influence may decrease, but it's a step that must happen.
kbki...Favorably because of lack of support from US.
japa...Sad, we should maintain our long term international role and lad…for the good of both the Us and our European allies.
brod...Europe is the new leader of the free world.

Would you feel comfortable switching jobs in this economy?

  • 74% No, too much uncertainty
  • 20% Yes, opportunities are still strong
  • 6% Other

EmailComments
dajo...drain the swamp
apph...The uncertainty is only going to continue.
kfhe...Switching jobs depends on your current career path. I think the question presented is far too generic. Ma ny companies have already “trimmed the fat” based on the most recent years insecure economic ups and dramatic lows. Additionally, far too many people have taken on a second fill time job based on the ability to conceal it from their employers by working from home. Employers are discovering this deceit and laying off the employees.
timm...Retired
mary...It’s a minefield out there
alex...I feel for our College Graduates that have been job hunting during the election year and that instead of stability after the election are now facing even more uncertainty in a job market that overnight has around 65k former government employees looking for jobs.
coll...Job searching since the March 2020 shut downs has been near-impossible.
aeva...Too much of the move fast and things approach.
elin...It depends what sector you work in.
duck...NOT WORKING
kevi...If cutbacks are made, new hires go first... Word to the wise.
bcar...No, it's not a good time to look for a new job or buy a new home.Trump has never had good business instincts. All his past business ventures failed. He had one lucky break with his silly TV show that he had way back when.
cica...Uncertainty? This economy is a train wreck heading for a bridge. That’s been blown out. Thanks, MAGAt’s
bail...I am self employed. I would not switch jobs.
