It's frightening bc many of them have no skills, don't know English, are from gangs, have diseases..not just covid, but drug resistant tuberculosis, STD's, etc. We have to house them, feed them, provide medical care? We don't even take care of our veterans, and our own homeless, and drug addicted citizens!

No other country in world will allow you to stay illegally, why should we, especially when these liberal democrats deplete our medicare, medicare and give these illegals free housing and food which most spend on drugs. The law provides for people to migrate our country legally and it is much easier today due to the internet so there is no excuse for illegal immigration. Newsom and Bass should be arrested for interfering with ICE and be prosecuted with felonies with prison terms.

mdul...The last time that POTUS deployed the National Guard in a state where the Governor did not request it was 1965 when President Lyndon B. Johnson sent them to protect the civil rights marchers attempting to complete the Selma to Montgomery march. He didn't send them to increase pressure on the demonstrators, he did it to protect them - a key difference with today. LBJ was preventing "Bloody Sunday" from recurring. The initial attempt to march from Selma to Montgomery was attacked by state troopers on an event that became known as "Bloody Sunday". He saw this as critical protecting voting rights, recalling that the marches were aimed at drawing attention to the disenfranchisement of Black voters in the South and advocating for a national Voting Rights Act. Trump has precisely the opposite intentions in mind with his deployment of the military against the wishes of the Governor. MAGA supporters often say that they want decisions pushed down to the states and local governments but, once again, we see that is only true when the states do what they (and Trump) want.

His followers stormed the US Congress, beat up police officers, defecated and urinated in the public hallways and vandalized the offices. Congress people hid in fear of their safety. Yet Trump pardoned the insurrectionists. There cannot be a double standard with the rule of law. Someone needs to remind Trump that the US is not Russia or China. Freedom of speech and peaceful protests are hallmarks of democracy.

susa...Do you live in LA/ So Cal? I did for 》 30 years. It is no longer a safe place! The value of "freedom" has resulted in too many people behaving very badly. Think about what you would do and how you would vote on this if people who were here, undocumented, were behaving badly in your neighborhood. If your neighbor was the girl (and mother of the girl) who was kidnapped, raped and killed by people here illegally, would you feel the same? It's heart breaking to see horrible behavior from people who are here in the US! Whether by US Citizens or non- citizens, the bad behavior that is making LA unsafe, has escalated. The City of LA and the State of CA are letting their tax-paying citizens down by not enforcing laws that protect people/ families and their safety. I know many people who have immigrated to the US. My family immigrated here. For humanity, for safety for all of us collectively, I believe we need to acknowledge immigration policy and enforcement is a huge mess that needs cleaned up!

The failure of local and state politicians to abide by and assist with the implementation of Federal law is deplorable and a dereliction of duty merely for political expediency. They left the Feds no choice but to protect their officers and execute the law. The fault here lies with Newsome and others of his ilk. We are a nation of laws and do not get to pick and choose which laws to enforce merely because we like some and dislike others. If the governor would call for the arrest AND prosecution AND punishment of criminals engaged in this behavior (and other criminal behavior), such a strong response wouldn’t be necessary. Local law enforcement already appears overwhelmed and the violent behavior is only escalating. Rapid control of the situation is necessary to avoid injury to all law enforcement and innocent bystanders, as well as the misguided protestors and ILLEGAL’s themselves.

gver...Immigration sweeps by there very are based upon profiling and not probable cause or evidence. In essence, it is raced based enforcement. The use of the national guard was way over the top. The protests were initially primarily peaceful and the LAPD had them under control. Systemic violence did not occur until the national guard was deployed. In a very real sense, the national guard escalated the violence and property damage.

We’re seeing that happen again. The National Guard is there to ensure safety while Immigration Officers do their job arresting individuals who broke the law entering country illegally.
