lash...How are taxpayers going to see the returns?
gray...Why does the US pay for everyone
mark...We can't continue to supply them without proper accounting for the money and equipment, plus we deserve compensation as our country has a large debt load.
char...We may have lost sight of what returns are: eventual peace. Europe should also see this, they are closer geographically and at risk of more sabotage and "accidental" incidents if Russia is not stopped. That is why NATO was established, to cooperate with other nations in world stability. As long as Putin is in power, Russia will not abide by any agreement he signs; if he will lie to his people he will lie to everyone. Megalomaniacs will pursue power at all cost. Ukraine is so easy to dismiss or forget; we don't have Russia next door. Yet. They are eyeing Alaska.
tkmo...The US guaranteed security to Ukraine in return for Ukraine giving up nuclear weapons. We renege on our promises.
ianp...How much of that aid was used in providing jobs for those American taxpayers
susa...We were paying with & for Peace and Democracy ; Ukraine was paying with its lives , destruction of its country. Are we not our brothers keeper ?
trag...We do what is right because it is the right thing to do, not with the expectation of rewards. If we sold the weapons we should be repaid at some point. We gave the weapons without strings attached to support an ally in need
zend...Bloodmoney politics benefits no one. Neither does taking our “allies” hostage…is the U.S. going to “compensate “ Zelensky for being forced to trash his counties nuclear arms program? Afghanistan and Viet Nam before it apparently taught us nothing about abandoning allies in the clutch.
nedr...In the form of goodwill Maybe base or port for Military training or staging
avaa...But not as a threat to let Russia take Ukraine from them if they don't should be able to work something g else out l
tris...USA should be a favored trade partner, but Ukraine needs to fund it’s rebuilding
scoo...Usa signed Budapest memorandum, ukraine give up it's nuclear weapons, usa, uk and Russian are obligated to protect ukraine. Now we have one attacked ukraine, other 2 trying to steal ukraine resources and give ukraine territory to Russia to make a deal.
tim....If repayment is necessary, then it should have been negotiated from the very beginning. Also, if we are protecting Ukraine for a gain, then we don’t actually care at all. Finally, the US has no business negotiating peace between Ukraine and Russia without Ukraine’s participation and consent.
esig...we should. We are preventing the spread of Communism, yes. But we need to see some dividends . Russia will just take the precious minerals. I don’t know about 50% of the assets but they should have some form of additional skin in this game.
pvec...The US continues to pay for other countries mistakes and lack of preparation
mcst...Did we require The Soviet Union or Britain to pay for our support in WW2 ?
kare...Which Trump via Musk empty the coffers of the Federal government, charitable organizations and medical grants along with firing federal employees…we do not need to be repaid. Aldi, Ukraine should not sign ANYTHING over to the Trump administration. It would not be a fair or honest exchange. Trump lies.
came...No more money for Ukraine Ukraine cannot win this war It would be an endless war until Putin decided to use nuclear weapons Enough spent on Ukraine
rand...that was not part of the original support deal protecting democracy should be the end result
wmer...This is support of democracy. That’s the return.
free...Payback should have been a condition of aid from start
gulf...FUCK UKRAINE
drly...What are we asking Israel to repay
debf...When you offer someone help you don’t much later ask to be paid for it
cica...Putin and Russia are the aggressors. They have violated international law put in place after the WW2 to prevent future wars of aggression. Russia has always been the shit-stain on the face of Europe. Trump and MAGA are his lackeys here at home
jame...Russia needs to be stopped or Russian attacks on other countries will follow Ukraine is fighting what would become America's fight if Russia is not stopped Never have understood why we are so afraid of the Russians. Ukraine has shown that their military is not very good. The only thing that the Russians have going for them is they are a nuclear power (a lot of countries are) and historically they have shown a remarkable willingness to die for their county (as long as they do not run out of under educated country boys) or, in the modern era ,to hire equally undertrained Korean boys
jmic...The US and Europe will be in a good position to negotiate mineral rights if they support Ukraine in a mutually beneficial peace deal with Russia. But that support should not be contingent on those rights.
anni...It was given without strings attached.
mcas...More specificity in the choices. Certainly, our ‘returns’ should be a safer US by way of a safer Europe, and supporting democracies over authoritarian land grabs.
rich...Ridiculous question. The aid is already in US's own security and economic interests.
mbcu...This is total bull shit. Sounds like Nazi Germany.
deva...If America is to remain a beacon of democracy, it should support Ukraine unconditionally. Trump is moving away from this and making a mockery of the post WWII order.
kend...We are a greedy nation. Our aid shouldn’t be offered to the highest bidder.
volk...We did for the UK in WWII. Precedent is set
scho...defence of democracy is not a financial transaction
shar...We gave support and now we ask for a return. Seems like we should have ask before the support
bwh3...Repayment of debt is fine but stealing $5 trillion of mineral wealth??? Seriously. The per capita income in Ukraine is under $5000. So the mighty US wants to financially linage Ukraine while they are fighting for their independence?? Nice look
scot...We never attach strings to our foreign aid. Never have. No reason to do it here because they have something useful.
dvbl...Worthless spend
pfor...Zelensky shouldn't trust anything brought forward by 'bait and switch' Trump.
alis...Who operates with money on a no ROI basis?
amay...Repayment already done. I believe most of our aid went to purchase weapons from American companies.
rake...That should be the norm in any war we get into
a1kh...Absolutely compensation is required. Why am I paying taxes — so billions are wasted on Ukraine while standard of living in the US is deteriorating by the minute.
bowj...Are we requiring payback from Israel for the money that was given them to fight Hamas? Ukraine is fighting for democracy and all democratic nations should support them with money and arms and troops.
gary...Peace and security should not be linked to return on investment
ksdb...I am seriously concerned about the state of our nation when I see a majority of respondents to this poll say no!
wlyn...Yes taxpayers should require repayment. It’s their people that are dying unessesarrily.I felt so sorry for the Ukrainian and have some friends that are living in the US but, fine let them go find another country to finance all the death going on.I no longer have any respect for the Ukrainians.Maybe they’ll agree to another offer by Trump but I am sick and tired they don’t have any respect for their own people. The US deserves something in return for our help for financial aid and our assistance.
tere...A safer, peaceful world, with respect and dignity for individuals, is more than adequate compensation
robo...The war is in Ukraine, but its consequences will impact the western countries. It’s in our best interests to keep Russia contained. Aid to Ukraine benefits the U.S.
nic....The choice of the wealthiest country in the world to withhold aid to a country struggling to up hold democracy without “direct compensation” is abhorrent. What Americans think they “deserve” is a huge part of the problem. It’s a disgusting attitude.
azda...What’s done is done, protect this fragile democracy, admit them into NATO now!
chau...That is who we are...taking care of each other and being there for a nation who is in need. It is the second commandment...Love thy neighbor.
limi...Ukraine has paid with the blood of her families. America should have rushed to protect Ukrainian skies and boarders. We should be ashamed.
anne...This is shameful coming from the US. Aid to Ukraine benefits all Americans by stabilizing against an aggressor like Russia.
alan...Yes we are not mercenaries, we are humanitarians. Not only this once the communist countries see that we have no European support we are now vulnerable as they will not help us if needed. Sometimes bullies get their asses kicked,
turt...Without us they would be toast !
clau...First of all, blackmailing any country for US support in the fight against tyranny is despicable. Knowing this administration, I’m certain that any mineral agreement will certainly line the pockets of Trump and his lackeys. Our country is turning into an example of how quickly democratic principles can be abandoned when a despot is elected. How I wish that I had command of French, German or Spanish so that I could apply for citizenship elsewhere.
danw...Compensation for aid will cause pressure for a peace settlement.
anda...If Ukraine falls to Russia we lose all the resources. The cut administration is being greedy.
metn...It’s a gift to us to update our weapons Programs which hav been neglected since the end of the Cold War
tubi...i cant imagine why not. the US taxpayers have sent billions to help and should be compensated. the compensation should be seen in the form of tax relief, school lunches, paid tuitions, etc. so the US taxpayer can see and feel the results as well.
trdu...Never has and never should be.
brun...For the amount of financial and military aid the US has provided to Ukraine - we should see something in return to the tax payers. However - I truly believe it the money goes right back into the pockets - i.e. the LLC bank accounts - of the DNC, Biden and Soros
caro...So much of our support is in the form of weapons that are manufactured in the U.S. so there is already a direct benefit to the U.S. economy!
jflo...Only if France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Norway and Italy repay us for WWII. We can give France a discount for its support of us during the Revolutionary War.
jodu...We benefit from saving Ukraine and that saves us a lot more money than we are spending now.
rumr...I feel more embarrassed than ashamed for our nation
dbmj...Most of Americans are transplants from Europe and other countries. Millions of people lost their lives from starvation and persecution before and during the world wars. The free world should all contribute to helping free those who support a democratic society. We shouldn't be intimidating Russia with weaponizing NATO. Russia should have security guarantees as well as those who want a democratic society. Ukraine's money should be used to rebuild their country, and not go to those who chose to help them.
jhck...We benefit from curbing Putin’s expansion ambitions and maintaining US leadership of NATO .
salv...If we get compensated then it just becomes a business. No need for peace talks. Just keep the war going until we get everything from each nation.
zack...The Biden Admin ran a scam proxy war with taxpayer dollars. Trump will end the war while Dems/MSM protest. Ukraine will have to give up some resources to pay the U.S. back. Dems/MSM will protest this too.
moue...What rewards does the USA get from Israel ?
lohm...This kind of a yes and no answer from me.... mixed with some ignorance of the situation. Were terms not negotiated during the Biden administration? If terms were not negotiated then what we have provided were just handouts... hopefully that's not the case, but we can't demand anything from Ukraine. If terms were negotiated than both sides should honor those terms.
lore...We should have never been involved in this mess.
bets...There needs to be accountability on where that money has been spent.
pesc...A democratic Europe is in the best interest of the United States and our security, which is becoming more tenuous by the day.
jack...The US has not required from anyone else before. Ukraine was not warned that this was going to be a possibility when it accepted aid. If the US is changing his policy now it needs to give fair warning
davi...Ukrainian citizens are suffering and dieing by the hands of their corrupt leaders. Our dollars and aid have funded that continued distruction and corruption. They should pay us back the same as the European funding they have received.
andr...They have resources they can trade for the support we provided. We do NOT have to give our tax dollars away
pegg...Any compensation for aid should be negotiated at the time the support is offered and given.
acmc...We have a very dangerous and most illegal government in place right now in our country. How did we get here?
duff...we gave that to support friends and to fight aggression. We may need their help some day.
midc...Trump is greedy prick
sher...I don't think it's fair to offer help and then ask for repayment after the fact. If new Trumpster fire administration wants to demand compensation for ongoing support, I suppose that's within their power to do so, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do.
rmac...Wow I can’t believe 50.8% do not think we should be compensated!
ster...There is no time in American history that they were ever compensated for the cost of war..Not in 1776, The Civil Was..all the way up to Afganistan!!!
nurs...Tax payers are overwhelmed w the price of fraud we have paid thanks to our corrupt govt. Give it back!
jj.j...Why are people expecting no return for helping Ukraine? Someone is paying for the cost of protection and its the US. These people are not understanding the cost of protection until they relate it to the security they pay for ADT or RING in their doorbaell.
serg...Demand return but keep Ukraine fighting
golf...Time to stop the killing
jame...Support is just that. But if you need support you should be willing to give some kind of repayment for that support. Go to a bank when you need help buying a house they want interest back on the money they gave you it is the same idea. Glad to help but it might cost you a little something in return.
aqua...How were they paying us back? We are also suffering here in the USA with all of these high prices when we retire we aren’t evening getting enough benefits and we are paying into so many taxes There is so much uncertainty. That war with Russia is obsurd Putin is a bully and he should be stopped they are terrorists There are so many terrorists but how are we as Americans being compensated
mary...50% of the minerals is too high a price. A lower percentage AND a guarantee for security should be given. But given the lack of integrity of the current administration, what kind of guarantee would be sufficient???
lw63...Especially when trump and his allies want to give Ukraine to Russia.
cyri...Stop sending military aid if they don’t agree yo trump terms
belc...We're 36 trillion in debt.
mspe...This was never part of Ukraine's agreement with us and the reasons for our need to support their democracy in that region remain obvious and urgent.
bart...In the long term, ukraine remaining a sovereign ally seems more beneficial than a few billion dollars
dori...We have not had to send troops to Ukraine and have not lost any lives. Defending Ukraine against a Russian takeover will prevent that from happening down the road. I don’t even know why there is a debate.
kold...We are not "selling" our support to Ukraine. We are supporting them to protect our own national security interests from fascism.
thic...Repayment was never the deal
haux...Absolutely, we need to see that money repaid in full!!
kevi...I'm "clicking" yes, but its not regarding this terrible question. It is yes in regards to the military audit it has failed SEVEN times. Taxpayers should be explained as to why the consistent audit failures that can't find 63% of its 4 $TRILLION in assets. Ukrainian aid is pocket change compared to this and elicits manufactured and misplaced outrage.
brod...Supporting an ally should not be seen as a transaction. If I decide to give you a shovel, it doesn’t mean that I now own your rake.
twin...Ukraine needs help to defend against putin! These people are defending democracy and need our help!
john...Defending democracies supports free markets.
alex...Are we asking Israel to repay us for the decades of support that we have given them?
john...There was no expectation of payment 3 yrs ago when Russia invaded Ukraine, this was the case when America supported South Vietnam, Kuwait and other conflicts to protect world democracy.
cfpo...The current administration is obviously ignorant of diplomacy and is not interested in helping Ukraine.
walk...Palidin
omal...Ridiculous to ask for aid money back. Ukraine is fighting our war.
stev...Saving countries from annihilation should not be viewed as a negotiation. Countries helped us after 9-11, did they demand repayment? No. Everything is not a business transaction.
bric...Taking half without assurance that we will maintain our level of support would be insane thing to agree to
herb...It’s no different than if we bought these materials directly from them. The only difference is that we paid for it in advance with tax payers monies.
dort...The USA is standing up to a dictator and a non free society.
bake...A substantial majority of the aid has been used to purchase weapons and other supplies from US companies. Ukraine's efforts enormously benefit America already. No payment was required for the Marshal Plan. No payment should be required for past or future US aid to Ukraine.
elyn...Why would anyone think we should go back and let some of our oligarchs steal from Ukrainians?
phil...No. US military aid requires that Ukraine buy American military armaments. Therefore, the aid actually goes to support the US military industrial complex. Ukrainians die and the US profits. Seems they are already paying a bigger price.
ende...It should have part of the original deal, if not you can’t expect it now
mhun...Ukraine is a slush fund for corrupt American politicians. This "war" is one Obama/Biden were directly involved trying to start against Russia before "Killory" lost to the greatest president of all time!
pwki...The US aid money was squandered n used for padding Zelenskyy pockets plus paying for bribes vs aiding the countries needs. Every dime should be returned to USA.
falb...As the wealthiest nation in the world we have taken advantage of other nations. With wealth comes responsibility. Multilateral relationships can be transactional on the business plain, but not on the humanitarian plain.
whma...1. More than 80% of ‘support’ is in materials that were produced by and purchased from US sources. That equates to jobs for US workers and contracts for US companies. 2. For a democracy to demand a quid pro quo before coming to the defense of another legitimate democracy in its fight for survival against a fascist invader defines Moral Bankruptcy.
bwel...It is in the U.S. and Europe’s interest to protect Ukraine from a Russian take-over and dominance.
os2w...Of course. What’s the ROI?, Else it’s simply a charitable donation. Is it tax deductible?
jjmp...We shouldn’t require repayment to do the right thing to support a country who was assaulted by a power driven sociopathic, evil dictator who thinks they can just take whatever they want regardless of the human suffering it causes.
coli...This plan had 50% of all reserves, basically everything left on Ukraine side. So Russia and US split the assets! Europe has contributed more than US, and Ukraine has given more than we can imagine. We need to work with Ukraine and our allies, not embarrass them on the world stage with that appeasement abomination in Munich.
lesl...We can be compensated through negotiations for products after Ukraine has secured their borders from Russia.
amri...It’s crazy to come back later and ask to change the terms of the support
bali...They are loans.
sale...The US people have been taken advantage of for years. Our government is responsible to the American people first. We will help others along the way, but no free lunches. I have at least 37 trillion reasons why!
andr...The average American can't possibly care about what is going on halfway around the world, when there are enough issues at home. Our foreign policy is immoral, has nothing to do with average folks, and is something that we simply can't afford long term. It's time to stop meddling in other country's affairs and deal with issues at home.
frog...We owe this country nothing. When others sat on their butts we have supported. The EU cares little and supports with little. Stop with all support if Ukraine does not accept out terms.
mich...If repayment was expected by the US, they need to have stated that clearly from the beginning. You can’t demand it retrospectively like this.
m.lo...It's not a loan, dammit!
laur...We need reciprocity for all the money we sent to Ukraine!
fee....We have already been compensated by Ukraine giving up their nukes. We also have made a promise to defend Ukraine under the Budapest agreement.
rons...How can any Country ask for and be given Billions in artillery and now be expected to repay in any way. I believe this is a fair deal
thef...The US forced Ukraine to give up its weapons in exchange for protection from Russia. We failed the Ukrainians.
ham3...Or give us back the aide. Already tired of being 16% that supports the other 84% let alone outside of the country. Our government spending is why our inflation is so high.
mric...Putin started this war with Ukraine. Power and greed. Putin should pay for it. Our participation was a fight to continue the democracy and freedom that these people have had. As our forefathers fought in WWI & WW2 to protect our freedoms and those of our allies against ruthless leaders like Hitler and now Putin. These freedoms that were fought so hard for must endure. We experienced the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Imagine how much of Ukraine has been destroyed and how many lives lost, children taken from their families and brought to Russia. It is sickening. Now, Imagine if a Russia with China and North Korea joined forces and invaded the United States and we were on the receiving end of the destruction of our country. If we break ties with the allies we have had so many years, who will come and help us in our need.
mark...There is so much poverty, drugs, and violence in our own country, we could use that money to help with all of these issues.
gail...Defense of democracy should not have to be paid for with a quid pro quo.
soji...US benevolence yield returns far more valuable than direct compensation. Our nation has gone crazy with these demands.
brid...The US shouldn't retroactively demand compensation for military support and take economic advantage of a nation defending its borders from a military invasion.
tria...If you do the right thing expecting a financial return, it is not the right thing.
plan...Stop trying to rape Ukraine while they are being pummeled by Russia, it’s embarrassing.
mary...Ukraine is fighting for all of us when it comes to rogue state Russia.
ttim...Simply put, the USA spent a lot of unaccountable money on this war. We need results as to where the money was spent.
isai...It is foolish to continue to fight wars and give money with no return on investment, especially when as a nation you are 36 trillion in debt. No one who is responsible would work for free while their family suffers, yet we have been pushing our debt to the limits of ruin while borrowing money to give away.
rsle...Charging allies for our support would be the same as charging your children for all the years you fed them once they have jobs. trump is an egomaniac that ONLY thinks MONEY is the answer to everything..........He has no real friends and it shows
phip...The USA has always helped other countries in the World and they have helped us in return. This is what we stand for, not making every transaction a business deal.
drse...Ukraine need our help against Russia trying To take over that small country And if they don’t cooperate with us there we’ll be Hell to pay on there behalf 🤷‍♂️ End of Story
susa...Why? Didn’t think our support was given with “ strings attached “
