Just facts, you think for yourself

How do you identify politically?

  • 41% Democrat
  • 33% Independent
  • 21% Republican
  • 5% Other

EmailComments
tomp...How can people spend that kind of money for these elections.
mrog...Registered Republican that identifies as more independent.
rgar...Dems offer nothing to the average American.
mich...There is no Republican party, just a cult of Trump.
tubi...i identify as independent, though our current political system leaves little to no room for third party involvement.
susa...I believe in freedom. Adults can choose to live, love and behave freely as they choose. I also believe the extreme government waste, which I've witnessed first hand when working on federal government issues in Washington DC, needs serious attention. So, regardless of party, I strongly believe all tax prayers need to support any and all leaders, regardless of party, who take a serious approach and ax to such excessive waste! If we want to enjoy living in freedom in the USA, we need to be financially responsible. If there were a box for leaning Socially liberal (love everyone and let everyone love whoever they choose) and Financially conservative, that's me. Libertarian is a more likely box for me.
elle...left leaning centrist
jcch...Probably best described as an old-style Dixiecrat--fiscally conservative supporting civil liberties. Not a Democrat-the party is wandering in the wilderness; not a Republican-worshipping autocracy.
cb10...But, far from MAGA for me.
jswe...Solidarity Party
mdul...I have been an Independent my entire adult life and reviewed each election and candidate with detailed investigation of all available data. People sometimes argued with my conclusions but they have never shown my research was faulty. That strong data focus on the issues served me well for many decades and normally resulted in a vote for a Republican. However, since Trump, facts and data no longer matter and there even seems to be a desire to be uninformed and simply accept what Trump says. So, even though I consider myself still an Independent, it's hard to imagine that I would vote for a Republican in any kind of short time frame.
dedg... I lean left but don’t want any party assuming they have my vote so I consider myself an independent. I live in a state that does not allow independents to vote in primaries, so I registered as a Democrat rather than have someone else choose who I vote for in general elections.
arou...I vote and promote issues not candidates
jame...I consider myself a moderate.
mari...Musk and his money are yet another example of political corruption that must be eliminated.
tede...Glad democrats coming back
mars...While I support mostly republican ideals, I do not support Trump. I am a moderate. Republican
pete...Conservative
joni...I always end up voting with the Democrats but would vote for anyone who shares my values.
arth...The independent voter, in states that don’t require party registration and have open primaries, is the only voter who has true freedom to cast their vote for the person they think most qualified.
troy...Finding myself more to the right than left these days with exception to certain issues. The DNC needs to clean house if they want a chance to win in 2028.
geof...Used to be Republican but Trump and his cowardly cohorts cured me of that.
pfor...I'm a conventional Republican, not an orange man right winger.
jllm...I like to say I was born a democrat, then I understood what business meant to me succeeding and became a republican, then realized money has no party. My new philosophy is that the democrats born poor, worked hard and saved, became successful, are represented more by the Democratic Party, and business should wake up and see where it’s future lies. If it needs more proof look what your perceived party is doing to you now. Talk about coming full circle.
dave...REGISTERED REPUBLICAN BUT HAVE BEEN VOTING DEMOCRAT LATELY
simi...Trump can't stump for every republican. Better candidates need to be found
gray...Other because I vote for the right person doing the best job not a dem or a republican and that's the right way. Stop being crooked!
mamo...I'm not affiliated with any political party, but I am committed to our constitutional democracy. To me that means voting against every republican because they're enabling Trump whose actions -- many of which are unconstitutional and/or illegal -- have been turning the U.S.A. authoritarian.
lawe...I identified as Unaffiliated until Trump was elected and changed the Republican Party.
cmar...I used to be Republican then Independent but I now consider myself mostly a Democrat. I wish there was an actual moderate democratic party with emphasis on working and disadvantaged Americans and economic policies. I'm pro-union, pro-woke, pro-DEI, pro-social democracy, pro-Veteran, anti-"green", anti-religion in government, anti-MAGA.
grah...Far left
lora...The democrat party has become corrupt ever sense the Clintons. American people need to wake up and realize that Democrats are only interested in themselves at the expense of the American people. Look at Social Security. Johnson stole the fund and put it in the general fund so bankrupt the system. The Clinton administration started taxing social security to steal more from the American elderly.
jlcg...non citizen
fcse...Former Republican
bigs...We must stand for democracy and our Constitution
vick...I have been a democrat my whole life, but the party has changed and is causing terrible damage to our country. The Republicans can’t get their act together to support a decent candidate.
exmx...I don’t like labels. If they had a neither or neutral category that would be me. I like the “son, vote for who you think is the better person for the job” method. I remember when I turned 18, I was walking thru the “Sears” mall. A voter registration table booth was up. I walked over , they asked democrat or republican? I asked why do I have to pick? Frustrated I went with independent. Today I’m republican. Only because I believe currently it the best option for the country right now. If we could clone John F Kennedy, I’d vote for him. Or Ronald Regan I’d vote for him. I hate labels. We’re so divided today, it’s horrible.
cica...I’m a new deal Democrat. Those are the values the Democratic Party has to get back to.
pasc...Maybe towards hard left but open to some libertarian ideas

Which best describes your general view on tariffs?

  • 72% Harmful to consumers and trade
  • 23% Necessary tool for economic leverage
  • 5% Other

EmailComments
rmac...It’s obvious this page is mostly read by liberals
nord...We are the USA and People need to start purchasing from made in the USA! I have found if you shop a local Penny's (have more clothing made in the USA, than any other clothing store), when they have a sale, the clothing is better made and cheaper than Walmart!
jaeg...Tariffs are a tax paid by the american importer and often passed along to the end consumer resulting in increased prices.
tomp...Consumers will continue to see unbearable Inflation. Recession will follow. In the last 2 weeks, my wife and I were both on Southwest flights to Orlando. Both flights were less than half full. I have not seen planes this empty since the the Pandemic. There is a slowdown in travel, housing is stagnent with declining prices, Insurance costs for Home and Auto are proposterous. Nothing good will happen. Gas prices are like the stock market up 10% one day and down 5% the next but always an upward trend!
kath...There is a time when they may be useful in some instances but not now and certainly not with our allies and neighbors
swjo...The phrase "No pain, no gain" comes to mind. I don't like them but I do see future benefit with short term pain
mark...Biden's approach of providing carrots to bring more industry to the United States is much better and more effective than sticks.
nick...If other countries put tariffs on goods we export to them, it’s only fair that we do the same. It has been unequal for far too long!
cb10...It’s common sense that it will do a lot of harm in many ways. trump does not know what he is doing.
broo...A gradual increase in tariffs over time would allow people to adjust, companies to move factories to the US and the economy to anticipate the future. The on again off again large jumps are detrimental to everyone.
cica...Yeah, a tariff is a tax. It’s also an act of war.
nest...The effect is a tax on consumers who will pull back on purchases.
lens...Some Tariffs are good if it levels the playing field, But just adding Tariffs to everything is not good.
cmar...Generally harmful...use trade agreements including quotas to balance trade.
gray...Everyone is feeling it? Does he really know what he is doing? Or is this just for him to bully people again?
mont...great recession began with tarif process
jllm...Look at your 401
mpda...I'll just buy American. No president in my lifetime (77) brought up this issue or addressed it. It would behoove you to embrace the well-kept secret if you were a president who could not address the imbalance and bias of tariffs on the USA with action.
jmbe...Hopefully the Trump tariffs will be his downfall. He is living in a fantasy world and causing irreparable harm.
sall...Trump’s tariff actions and threats are more examples of his desire to destroy our democracy and establish his despotic control of our government as quickly as possible. We must fight back to preserve our democracy. It is our duty to defend our constitution again all enemies foreign and domestic.
nkim...Historically this type of policy brought about economic downfall. Is history being repeated?
kold...Following the advice of 90% of economists
dave...The more correct answer would be a little of both but the plans of our present administration demonstrates economic recklessness I've not seen in my 76 years
exmx...It’s all of the above. Walmart is smart to want product price reductions.
vinc...Will increase all prices and decrease international trade …
srcl...Trump is doing it as a power play, in my opinion.
rzei...Tariffs if selectively done can be advantageous.. across board tariffs are too broad and not overall likely effective
lawe...Tariffs are taxes that'll be paid - in large part - by the average person. It's extremely harmful to trade and consumers.
jrv1...We have been
arou...I believe in the approach of the biden adminsitration, investing in infrastructure and manufacturing rather than forcing price problems which might but probably won't make changes in a few years
rgar...Our trade imballance has to be corrected for the future of our country. Globalists like Obama are trying to create a new world order and do not care if the USA suffers.
lora...This should have been done a long time ago. The US should charge tariffs just like every other country.
jame...Reciprocal seems fair!!!!
jabl...Why should America support the rest of the world, many of which WE defend!
ruth...Media misrepresents issue and most Americans dont understand economics
tubi...reciprocal tariffs are long overdue. US manufacturing cant compete with overseas labor.
jeff...A scalpel, not a chainsaw
troy...With scarcity of inventory, retailers never fail to raise prices for consumers. With tariffs, maybe retailers and suppliers try a little less to squeeze all they can out of consumers simply to get the product in stores. The US is the largest economy in the world by 10 trillion dollars, yet consumers behave without sovereignty.

Should companies like Oracle or Blackstone control major platforms with influence over public discourse?

  • 74% No, that consolidates too much power
  • 26% Yes, as long as it's US-based

EmailComments
lawe...Monopolies fail to foster innovation.
arth...Propaganda is a dangerous. Companies must be strongly regulated to prevent its control in the hands of nations hostile to the US.
gail...Need to as long as we are fighting the current corrupt platforms
jabl...No doubt China has been using this platform for spying. We need to share in this platform to keep an eye on things.
susa...OMG! Do people not understand China is a threat? At this moment your survey shows 70% saying "no". People need to read and understand how China and Russia and factions in the Mid-East and elsewhere are serious threats to the US and all Americans way of life. When people in other countries cheer "Death to America" is not a game. It's real. Do we really want our way of life to reflect what is going on in those countries where people have little freedom, are enslaved, endure unthinkable suffering and crimes, etc etc? May safety, freedom and higher intellect prevail.
tubi...there is a more sinister reason for controlling the flow of info. than some rhetorical nonsense about "overseas govt's spying". (which is to say, more so than our own govt spies on us)
ebr....Monopolies are bad news for consumers.
wade...Having too much power in a US company is better than our adversary, China, having the power.
jllm...I like it when the money stays here. You can influence all you want but the truth will always come out and a price paid for it’s dishonesty.

Is a PMI reading of 49.0 a short-term blip — or the beginning of a longer-term contraction in US manufacturing?

  • 75% Long-term contraction
  • 25% Short-term blip

EmailComments
jllm...Did anyone in the government take economics 101, Jesus I failed it and still can see the writing on the wall. When you surround yourself with people with less knowledge then you , you’ll never learn anything.
rgar...Biden had 4 years to screw things up. Give Trump the time and patience for recovery. Recovery from Bidens misery is not immediate.
tubi...hold the course. manufacturing will move back on-shore as tariffs sink in.
cica...I see at least a recession if not a depression. Pretty much every Republican president precipitates it. The economy always does better under Democrats.
arou...confidence is gone
bstr...Please!
geof...Trade war is going to backfire.
ebr....You get what you vote for
robs...It is the beginning of the end of a long term contraction.
mpda...With all these companies spending billions this year and into the future jobs will multiply. I do wonder about the effects of robots in the manufacturing industry countering the effects of the new influx of cash into manufacturing.

Are you currently taking, or have you ever taken, statins or other cholesterol-lowering medication?

  • 63% Yes
  • 37% No

EmailComments
arth...Some of the older statins, such as Simvastatin do a great job of regulating colesterol and the price has dropped to a very low level.
jllm...I’m sure because of the American lifestyle we’ll all have to take a Statin. By the time we start eating healthy, its to late.
hada...The statin made me sick
swjo...Ozempic took off 50 pounds, no longer need statins or metformin
rene...I don’t take medications of any sort, but I eat only plants; no animal products. My LDlL is 81, and my overall cholesterol is 144
dare...Blood cholesterol levels are good. Take a statin for stroke prevention as I have a blocked artery in both my lower legs. Have peripheral neuropathy.
lawe...It's not medically necessary in my case
rayd...Skewed survey. Those who’ve taken statins are more likely to respond.
tomp...been taking cholesterol medicine for over 30 years and the only thing that is diminishing is my need for smaller size pants. Good by 34, 36 and 38 inch waist pants!
wlkm...Statins should be in the water

Is the increased SCD risk a reason to avoid long-term antidepressant use — or a manageable trade-off for mental health stability?

  • 55% Reason to avoid
  • 45% Manageable trade-off

EmailComments
wilk...Could it be that increased SCD risk more linked to having depression than it is linked to those that take antidepressants?
jllm...A perfect 50/50, we like to say in my world your fucked if you do and your fucked if you don’t.
cica...I think it’s a personal decision.
myna...More context is needed to establish what the baseline level of SCD is. Ie, if SCD effects 1 in 100M people (obvious exaggeration) then even doubling that risk is negligible. If it effects 1 in 100, then doubling it is an extreme cost. For change in rate effects, knowing the baseline rate is also needed to assess costs and risks in an absolute sense for individuals to make smart choices
mdul...It's easy for me to say that this is an additional reason to avoid long-term antidepressant use since I've not experienced a need for those drugs but I recognize the depression is real. If there are other ways for people to manage their depression symptoms, they are preferable to long-term antidepressant use but, if they have been unable to find any other means, such use may well be a better tradeoff than choosing to not manage the depression at all.
cand...These questions need to be addressed individually. This discussion needs to be had between doctor and patient weighing the severity of the depression against the drug complications.
arth...Depression is the major cause for suicide. The question is, which is the most likely, suicide or sudden cardiac arrest. Take anti-depressants under the management of a physician.
ebr....I wish people would get off medications. The pharmaceutical industry is not their friend!
msmi...People with major depressive disorder have a markedly increased risk of death by suicide and other causes, so there is a significant risk:benefit and quality of life decision to be made in each individual situation. People with depression can’t just opt out of their med’s and then also maintain a career (and health insurance), parent their kids, exercise, eat well, and remember their vitamins. Antidepressants save lives.
