Lawsuit Against DOGE
Shortly after President Donald Trump took office, a lawsuit targeted Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The National Security Counselors filed the suit, alleging DOGE violates the Federal Advisory Committee Act from 1972.
They claim that DOGE, structured as a federal advisory committee, must follow rules on membership and transparency and has failed to comply. The suit argues that Trump and others have influenced DOGE inappropriately.
It seeks to prevent Musk and his team from conducting official business until they comply with federal regulations. The lawsuit highlights potential wasteful spending in government, emphasizing the need for expertise in the committee's operations.

Biden's Last-Minute Pardons
Former President Biden exercised his executive clemency power in his final hours in office. He granted pardons to five family members, including his brothers James and Francis, his sister Valerie Biden Owens, and her husband, John Owens.
Additionally, he pardoned Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley, and former Representative Liz Cheney. Biden's pardons aimed to shield these individuals from potential retribution by incoming President Donald Trump.
Biden expressed concern about politically motivated investigations causing harm to innocent lives. "Baseless and politically motivated investigations wreak havoc on the lives, safety, and financial security of targeted individuals," Biden stated.
Moreover, Biden pardoned all members of the bipartisan House committee that investigated the January 6 Capitol attack, including their staff and the police officers who testified.

Argentina's Surplus Under Milei
Argentina achieved a trade surplus of $18.9 billion in 2024. This figure surpassed the previous record of $16.89 billion set in 2009.
Exports have exceeded imports for thirteen consecutive months. December alone saw a $1.67 billion surplus.
Last year, Argentina's total exports reached $80 billion, driven by agriculture and livestock. Imports stood at $61 billion. Brazil emerged as the largest export destination, accounting for 17% of the total, followed by the United States and Chile.
President Javier Milei's economic strategy focuses on boosting grains and energy exports while cutting public spending. Since taking office in late 2023, he aims to make Argentina a net energy exporter, leveraging its shale oil and gas reserves.

Weight-Loss Drugs’ Benefits and Risks
Patients using GLP-1 drugs, such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, are 12% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease. However, these drugs increase the risk of arthritis, pancreatic, and kidney issues, according to a six-year study of 2.4 million patients.
The study analyzed 215,000 US military veterans with diabetes. It found that GLP-1 drugs improved 42 health conditions, including cardiovascular disease and bacterial infections, with modest risk reductions of 10-20%.
The drugs may also help curb addiction disorders, suggesting a link between obesity and food addiction.
Despite these benefits, GLP-1 drugs increased the likelihood of 19 conditions. Arthritis risk rose by 11%, contradicting expectations that weight loss would ease joint issues. Pancreatic and kidney risks were the most severe adverse effects noted.

Parkinson's Promising FDA-Approved Drug
Researchers found a crucial link in Parkinson's disease involving a cell surface protein called Aplp1. This protein spreads harmful alpha-synuclein proteins in the brain.
An FDA-approved cancer drug targeting Lag3—another protein that interacts with Aplp1—blocked this spread in mice. The drug nivolumab/relatlimab showed success in preventing the formation of disease-causing clumps by blocking the interaction of Aplp1 and Lag3.
In tests with genetically modified mice, the absence of both Aplp1 and Lag3 resulted in 90% less harmful alpha-synuclein entering healthy brain cells.
More than 8.5 million people worldwide suffer from Parkinson's. The disease results from the death of dopamine-producing neurons in the brain's substantia nigra. It is characterized by symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, and speech difficulties
