Supersonic Flight are Coming Back
In 2029, Boom Supersonic plans to launch Overture, a supersonic passenger aircraft. This jet will fly at 1,300 miles per hour (Mach 1.7). A 14 hour transpacific flight will be reduced to just 8.5 hours.
Boom has built a demonstrator plane and acquired over 130 preorders from airlines like American Airlines and United Airlines. The jet will carry up to 80 passengers and could cut NYC to London flights from 7 hours to 3.5.
Expected to cost around $5,000 per ticket, Overture aims to make supersonic travel accessible compared to the $20,000 fare of the Concorde. Boom’s design prioritizes fuel efficiency and sustainable aviation fuel.
The FAA currently restricts supersonic flight over land due to noise regulations. However, Boom identified over 600 profitable global routes where Overture can operate.

Russia Sends Yemenis to Ukraine
Russia has forcibly recruited hundreds of Yemeni men to fight in Ukraine. Many were lured with false promises of high-paying jobs and Russian citizenship but were instead sent to the front lines.
Some Yemenis said they were tricked into signing contracts they couldn’t read. Others were intimidated at gunpoint. A man named Abdullah reported being promised $10,000 and $2,000 per month. Instead, he was given minimal training and sent into combat.
The recruitment highlights growing ties between Russia and the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group in Yemen.
Recruits endure harsh conditions in Ukraine, with limited rest, inadequate clothing, and no winter gear.

Mapping the Human Body One Cell at a Time
Scientists unveiled an early map of the human body, detailing some of the estimated 37.2 trillion cells that make us who we are.
This research focuses on cells from various organs, including the mouth, stomach, and intestines. They studied how cells group into tissues and their roles in health and disease.
Dr. Timothy Chan highlights the practical implications for cancer research, emphasizing that different cell types have unique vulnerabilities.
The high-resolution, open-access atlas serves as a first draft. Researchers aim to create a complete atlas by 2026, covering 18 organs and body systems, including the skin, heart, brain and the microbiome in the gut.
