TikTok's Future

TikTok faces a potential ban in the US as early as January 19, 2025, due to a law requiring its Chinese owner, ByteDance, to divest.

This was enacted by President Biden in April. The law allows for a nine-month divestment period, which can extend by three months if a sale is in progress.

President-elect Donald Trump, promised to "save" the app. His transition team, including spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, asserted he has a mandate to act on this campaign promise.

ByteDance has spent over $8 million lobbying against the ban. It also engaged former Trump aides to aid in its cause.

Houthis Attack US Warships

Two U.S. Navy destroyers, USS Stockdale and USS Spruance, were attacked by Yemen's Houthi rebels while navigating the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The attack included at least eight drones, five anti-ship ballistic missiles, and three anti-ship cruise missiles. The crews successfully intercepted all incoming threats.

Additionally, the Houthis falsely claimed they targeted the USS Abraham Lincoln but were contradicted by Pentagon officials.

The US military has launched strikes on over 15 Houthi positions in previous months, with ongoing operations aimed at degrading their threat to international shipping.
