The $1.5 Trillion Commercial Real Estate Time Bomb
Landlords face $1.5 trillion in commercial real estate debt due by next year. This issue mainly affects offices and apartment complexes.
Reports show that 25% of this debt may prove difficult to refinance. Nearly 40% of these maturities involve apartment buildings.
Moreover, around $95 billion in US properties are under distress or at risk. Rising insurance costs and declining property values aggravate the situation.
The funding gap currently stands between $200 billion and $400 billion.

American Hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin Found Dead in Gaza
Hersh Goldberg-Polin, a 23-year-old American, was found dead in Gaza along with five other hostages. His body was discovered by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in a tunnel under Rafah.
Goldberg-Polin was among the hostages taken on October 7 during Hamas's attack at the Nova music festival. His parents, Jon Polin and Rachel Goldberg, actively campaigned for his release.
The IDF informed that Hamas executed the hostages 24-48 hours before they could be rescued.
In total, Israel has retrieved at least 12 bodies of missing hostages in the last two weeks. Currently, 97 hostages remain in Gaza, only about 50 might still be alive.

10.000 Hotel Housekeepers Strike
On Labor Day weekend, about 10,000 hotel workers from the UNITE HERE union walked off their jobs in eight US cities, including Boston and San Francisco.
Union President Gwen Mills claims hospitality work is undervalued.
Recently, successful strikes in Southern California led to wage increases, with some housekeepers set to earn $35 an hour by 2027.
Hotel companies, including Hyatt and Hilton, stress they remain open to discussions.

Populist Surge Rocks Scholz's Coalition in Germany
The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) won approximately 33.1% of the vote in Thuringia.
This is the first time a far-right party won in a regional ballot since World War II. The conservatives, led by the CDU, followed with 24.3%.
In Saxony, the CDU led slightly at 31.9%, just ahead of the AfD. Chancellor Olaf Scholz's coalition polled under 6% in both Thuringia and Saxony.
Germany received 329,035 asylum seekers last year. The AfD's platform focuses on strict immigration policies.
