Arkansas: Lithium Reserves Discovered

Researchers discovered lithium reserves in Arkansas. They estimate between five million and 19 million tons of lithium exist in the Smackover Formation. Enough to satisfy global demand for lithium.

In collaboration with the Arkansas government, the United States Geological Survey used water testing and machine learning to identify these reserves.

Exxon Mobil is exploring lithium extraction methods from underground brine. Researchers suggest that lithium could be extracted from the waste generated during the extraction of oil and gas.

Despite being more costly, this method may be essential for tapping into the Arkansas reserves.

Additionally, the proposal restricts sharing human genomic data on over 100 individuals and personal health or financial data on more than 10,000 people. Precise geolocation data on over 1,000 US devices is also off-limits.

Perovskite Crystals Solar Power

Perovskite crystals may offer a new approach to solar energy. Their efficiency surpasses traditional silicon panels due the role of lead iodide films in the growth of these crystals.

Currently, solar panels occupy nearly 10,000 square kilometers on Earth.

By the end of 2023, solar panels generated about 1,600 terawatt-hours of electricity, which constitutes roughly 6% of global energy production.

Researchers aim to enhance the performance of perovskite solar cells.
