BlackRock to Buy Panama Canal
BlackRock will acquire a majority stake in key ports along the Panama Canal for $22.8 billion. This sale includes the ports of Balboa and Cristobal, previously owned by Hong Kong's CK Hutchison.
The consortium will hold a 90% interest in Panama Ports Company and gain control over 43 ports globally, totaling 199 berths across 23 countries.
This acquisition addresses President Trump's concerns over Chinese influence in Panama. Approximately 70% of vessels using the canal are US-bound.
The Panama Canal, built in the early 1900s and handed over to Panama in 1999, handles 4% of global maritime trade. In 2024, it generated $5 billion in profits, contributing to 23.6% of Panama's income.

SpaceX's $1.8 Billion Investment in Florida
SpaceX’s $1.8 billion Florida project will create 600 new jobs by 2030. The expansion focuses on building new Starship launch pads and processing facilities at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
The new "Gigabay" facility will be 380 feet tall and span 815,000 square feet—11 times larger than the current facilities in Texas. SpaceX aims to increase its Starship flight rates.
The US Air Force is currently reviewing the potential environmental impacts of these operations. A decision is expected later this year.
Governor Ron DeSantis highlighted Florida's growing role in the aerospace industry, stating the state is becoming the future of space exploration.

Tricaprin’s Impact on Heart Disease
Researchers found that tricaprin, a natural supplement, improves survival and recovery for patients with triglyceride deposit cardiomyovasculopathy (TGCV), a newly identified heart disease.
This condition impairs the heart's ability to break down triglycerides, causing damage and leading to heart failure.
The research involved 22 patients treated with tricaprin and 190 control patients. The 3-year and 5-year survival rates for those on tricaprin were 100%, compared to 78.6% and 68.1% for the control group, respectively.
Patients also experienced enhanced heart function and structural improvements. Many participants taking tricaprin had previously undergone hemodialysis.

Sunspots and Earthquakes
Research revealed that solar heat affects Earth's surface temperature. This, in turn, can influence rock properties and underground water movement.
Specifically, changes in temperature of 0.1 to 0.2 degrees Celsius can make rocks more brittle, increasing fracture risk.
They found that incorporating surface temperature improved the accuracy of shallow earthquake predictions by 2.6 to 17.9 percent.
While solar activity is not the main cause of earthquakes, it offers valuable insights into predicting seismic activity.
