Uninsurable Homes: Cash Deals and Steep Discounts
Insurance companies are refusing coverage for homes in risky weather zones, especially older properties. As a result, many borrowers cannot secure mortgages for these homes.
A report reveals $1.6 trillion in property value is at risk. This includes 6.1 million uninsured homeowners.
In California and Florida, insurers limit policies or are leaving the market altogether. Miami has about 15% uninsured homes.
Uninsurable homes still sell. They often change hands for cash and at steep discounts.

DOJ vs Visa
The Department of Justice (DOJ) accused Visa of monopolizing the debit card market through high fees and exclusive deals.
Visa controls over 60% of US debit transactions, earning $7 billion from fees annually.
Visa’s alleged misconducts include requiring volume commitments and paying competitors to prevent them from launching threatening products, including those from Apple and PayPal.
Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized that Visa's actions inflate costs for consumers, as merchants pass these fees onto shoppers. The DOJ seeks a court order to stop Visa from imposing these practices

FBI Probes Chinese Ties to Silicon Valley
The FBI is investigating whether US venture fund Hone Capital, backed by $215 million from Chinese private equity group CSC, enabled Beijing to access tech trade secrets.
Hone invested in 360 US startups, including companies linked to self-driving cars and aerospace. The probe centers on whether Chinese authorities accessed sensitive information from these tech firms.
Hone is embroiled in legal disputes with former executives, who allege the company was incentivized to target sensitive technology.
Hone's money flowed through Chinese and offshore entities before funding US ventures. Some of these startups had contracts with the US government.

4 Millions Robot Workers Worldwide
The World Robotics 2024 report revealed that 4,281,585 robots are operating in factories, marking a 10% increase.
For the third consecutive year, over half a million robots were installed, totaling 541,302 units in 2023.
Asia dominates, with 70% of new installations, led by China, which installed 276,288 robots—51% of the global total. Japan remains second, but it saw a 9% decline. In contrast, India experienced a 59% surge, installing 8,510 units.
Europe reported a 9% rise, with 92,393 robots installed, driven by strong automotive investments in Spain and Slovakia. The Americas showed installations reaching 55,389 units, just 1% shy of last year’s record.

OpenAI Launches Voice Assistant
OpenAI officially launched its new voice assistant, known as advanced voice mode, for all paid ChatGPT users.
The rollout began on Tuesday for ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Team subscribers. Users from Enterprise and Edu plans will start receiving the feature next week.
Initially announced in May, OpenAI delayed the launch due to safety concerns.
The voice assistant can respond to written and visual prompts. OpenAI incorporated filters to prevent the generation of music or copyrighted audio.
