US Supply Chains at Risk

Canada’s biggest railroads, Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and Canadian National (CN), are halting shipping networks due to a labor dispute with the Teamsters union.

Both companies have stopped some shipments, including hazardous materials and refrigerated products. Starting Tuesday, CPKC will cease all shipments beginning in Canada and any US shipments destined for Canada.

Lockouts could begin as early as August 22. Each railroad handles around 40,000 carloads daily, worth $1 billion collectively.

Goods like automobiles, chemicals, and agricultural products will be severely affected, especially with the harvest season approaching.

The Hotelification of Offices

Companies are redesigning offices to attract employees back to work. They are creating luxurious environments known as "work resorts."

The design mimics boutique hotels with airy décor and a signature scent reminiscent of saltwater and honeydew.

The US faces a 20% office vacancy rate. Companies hope to make the office a place where employees want to be.
