Platner Implodes
Graham Platner suspended his Maine Senate campaign after a sexual assault allegation by Jenny Racicot; he denied it as “categorically false.”
Platner, 41, an oyster farmer and Army veteran, had won the Democratic primary with over 70% of the vote and attracted strong progressive backing.
Support quickly collapsed after the report, with Bernie Sanders and Ro Khanna withdrawing support and most Senate Democrats urging him to quit. Maine Democrats are preparing a replacement process.
Under state law, Platner must withdraw by July 13 for the party to name a new nominee by July 27. The race is crucial to Democrats’ path to a Senate majority.

Trump’s NATO Test

Cancer Cell Factory
USC researchers created a lab method to grow renewable granulocyte-monocyte progenitors, or GMPs, the precursors that produce macrophages and other immune cells.
Using a chemical cocktail, they kept GMPs multiplying long term while preserving their ability to mature and to be genetically engineered.
After adding CARs, and sometimes an extra immune-boosting signal, the cells engrafted in mouse bone marrow, kept producing immune cells, and avoided the lung and liver buildup seen with mature macrophage therapies.
In mouse cancer models, the cells slowed disease; the dual-signal version worked best. The approach also restored antibacterial defense in mice with chronic granulomatous disease.

Chip Demand Surge
SK Hynix’s U.S. ADR sale attracted demand of more than seven times the shares offered, with orders around $171.5 billion.
The company is selling 177.9 million ADRs, each equal to one-tenth of a common share, and expects to raise about $24.5 billion based on Wednesday’s Seoul closing price.
That would make it the second-largest U.S. listing by a foreign company, behind Alibaba. Final pricing was set for July 9, 2026, with Nasdaq trading scheduled for July 10.
Major buyers included global long-only and tech funds, sovereign wealth funds, and Asia-focused investors.

Brain Drain
Australian researchers found a possible link between ME/CFS and the brain’s glymphatic system, which helps clear cerebrospinal fluid and waste.
In a study of 31 patients and 27 healthy controls, MRI-based scans showed reduced glymphatic function in the ME/CFS group, limited to the right side of the brain.
Worse sleep problems and brain fog were tied to stronger dysfunction. The finding may help explain inflammation in ME/CFS and could aid diagnosis or treatment, but the study is small and preliminary.

Hidden Air-Bag Risk
Counterfeit air-bag inflaters have killed at least 10 people and seriously injured 3 in the U.S. since 2023.
NHTSA banned sale and import of inflaters tied to Jilin Province Detiannuo Safety Technology (DTN Airbag), saying they likely entered illegally and are hard to trace.
Many end up in used cars after crashes or are sold online for about $100, far below genuine replacements.
Fatal crashes have been linked to cars in several states. DTN says it doesn’t do U.S. business and calls them counterfeit. Regulators and prosecutors have pursued sellers; one family won a $603 million verdict.
