Starship Stalls
SpaceX scrubbed Starship’s 13th test flight after 4 of 33 engines failed to ignite seconds before liftoff; the other 29 shut down and the rocket remained on the pad in South Texas.
Elon Musk said two Raptors will be replaced and another launch could come in days, likely early next week.
The 407-foot rocket was on its second Starship V3 suborbital test after Flight 12 fell short of a controlled splashdown.
The mission was to carry 20 Starlink V3 satellites. SpaceX shares fell after the abort and closed below the company’s $135 IPO price for the first time.

Bridge Attacks
The US launched a sixth straight night of strikes on Iran, hitting coastal surveillance, air defense, logistics and maritime assets, plus bridges used to supply Bandar Abbas near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian media said five bridges were struck. Iran reported hits in several cities and said 1 was killed and 8 injured in Bandar Abbas, with 7 killed and 9 injured near Bandar Khamir.
Iran attacked US-linked sites in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain; Kuwait said it downed 32 drones.
Shipping through Hormuz has fallen sharply, cutting seven-day crude flows to 5.5 million barrels a day from 9.4 million. Brent topped $85.

Researchers found the gum bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis more often in calcified aortic valves from patients with calcific aortic valve stenosis than in other valve samples.
In mice, repeated exposure to live P. gingivalis increased valve calcium buildup and aortic stenosis signs; dead bacteria did not, and antibiotics reduced damage.
The immune signal IL-1β helped drive inflammation: removing it genetically sharply reduced calcification even when bacteria were present.
The human data show association, not proof of cause. A clinical study is underway to test whether gum disease and P. gingivalis are linked to CAVS.

US regulators traced a cyclospora outbreak to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell.
At least 1,644 people in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia have been sickened, but the CDC says more than 5,100 possible cases are under review and nearly 7,000 people may have been affected.
No deaths were reported. Michigan has the most cases, with 4,312 and 102 hospitalizations. FDA traceback points to a single supplier in Mexico; a source identified it as Taylor Farms.
Taco Bell removed the lettuce from its supply chain indefinitely. Symptoms include watery diarrhea, loss of appetite and weight loss.

Researchers found sugar-coated nanoparticles can cross the blood-brain barrier and target glioblastoma in mice.
The particles used mannose to hitch a ride through the GLUT1 transporter, which glioblastoma cells use about three times more than normal brain tissue.
They carried mRNA instructions to produce PTEN, a tumor-suppressing protein. In mice, brain delivery was 9.9 times better than with uncoated particles.
After 28 days, treated mice had 2.3% tumor burden versus 52% in untreated mice, and median survival rose from 33 to 49 days. No major-organ toxicity was detected, but the work is still preclinical.

Moonshot AI released Kimi K3, an open-weight model with 2.7 trillion to 2.8 trillion parameters, a 1 million-token context window, and text, image and video support.
Moonshot says it matched Anthropic’s Fable 5 on some tests and beat Opus 4.8 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.5 on others, while leading several coding and document benchmarks.
It trails Fable 5 on FrontierSWE and HLE-Full. The model uses 16 of 896 experts and is priced below major U.S. rivals at about $15 per million output tokens.
Moonshot raised $2 billion in May at a valuation above $20 billion.
