Surprise Attack
The U.S. said it intercepted all Iranian ballistic missiles launched at American forces in the Middle East, ending a pause in fighting and raising wider-war risks.
U.S. Central Command, working with Saudi forces, struck Iran-backed militia sites in eastern Iraq after more than 30 IRGC-directed drone attacks in 72 hours.
Saudi Arabia said it joined the strikes after drone attacks on oil facilities near Sharqiya and Riyadh. Iran said the IRGC fired missiles at a U.S. air base and a CENTCOM site in Jordan; the U.S. said it intercepted them.
Oil prices jumped more than 4%. Trump warned Iran to make a deal or face renewed strikes.

Subsidy Over
The Trump administration will end a Medicare Part D premium subsidy after 2026, removing about $3.6 billion in support for 2026 and $9.8 billion total since the program began.
Around 25 million beneficiaries will see 2027 premiums this fall. Average Part D premiums were about $36 a month this year.
Officials say roughly 25% of enrollees may see no change or lower premiums, 30% may face increases under $10, and the rest mostly $11 to $20.
The subsidy had cut average premiums by 40% in 2025 and 27% this year. Plan offerings have dropped by about half in two years.

The compounds include EGCG in green tea, berry pigments, cocoa flavanols and curcumin in turmeric.
Evidence also points to the Mediterranean and MIND diets, which stress vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, fish, olive oil, leafy greens and berries while limiting processed foods, red meat and sweets.
Polyphenols may aid nerve cells through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Gut bacteria alter how the body uses them, so effects vary by person. More than 55 million people worldwide live with dementia.

Japan Quake Toll
A magnitude 7.1 quake struck Kumamoto prefecture in southwestern Japan at 4:27 p.m. local time, later revised to 6.8 by the USGS.
At least 13 people died and 31 were injured; other reports put serious injuries at 7 and minor injuries at 29. A 5.6 aftershock followed at 5:08 p.m.
The quake caused fires, blackouts, road and bridge damage, building collapses and a mall partial collapse after a likely gas-leak explosion.
About 9,186 people used 506 evacuation centers across five prefectures, and roughly 45,000 to 48,000 households lost power. Nuclear plants nearby reported no abnormalities.

Gut Signal
Researchers identified Pdyn-expressing neurons in the colon’s nervous system that appear tied to both gut motility and pain.
In isolated colons, activating them pushed fecal pellets forward more often. In live mice, the same stimulation did not increase stool output; instead, the animals froze and showed eye tightening, a pain-or-discomfort sign.
The cells may also be part of the gut’s movement network. The work is a bioRxiv preprint, not peer reviewed.
Similar neurons exist in humans, but their role in constipation or irritable bowel syndrome remains untested.

Robot Clampdown
The Trump administration banned new imports of Chinese humanoid and quadruped robots and connected power inverters, citing supply-chain and cybersecurity risks to U.S. critical infrastructure.
The FCC said the rules apply only to unreleased models, but it can revoke approval for some models already sold in the U.S.
The move targets China’s robotics and inverter sectors. Unitree holds just under 20% of the global humanoid robot market and was recently added to the Pentagon’s list of alleged Chinese military-backed companies.
China leads the inverter market through firms like Sungrow and Huawei.
