Fauci Phone Probe
A Senate panel has obtained Dr. Anthony Fauci’s iPhone from the Health and Human Services Department, adding to journals covering 2019-2022 already turned over to Congress.
The records are being used to scrutinize Fauci’s pandemic actions and contacts with the media.
Republicans are also pressing ahead with investigations: Sen. Rand Paul’s committee will vote Thursday on contempt of Congress after Fauci refused to answer questions last week and invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times.
Fauci says he briefed Congress more than 200 times over nearly 40 years and calls Paul’s focus an “unhinged obsession.”

Hormuz Breakthrough
Iran and Oman said they reached a draft agreement on a shipping lane through the Strait of Hormuz, with final review still pending.
The plan would create an inbound lane near Iran and an outbound lane near Oman; Iran would monitor incoming ships but could not charge tolls or fees.
The route may be temporary, possibly lasting 2 to 4 months, with another draft set for 60 days. Hormuz carries about one-fifth of global oil and LNG.
Traffic has fallen during the war, and Iran has at times blocked the strait and attacked vessels. Oil prices slipped after the news.

mRNA Flu Vaccine
The FDA approved Moderna’s mRNA flu vaccine, mFlusiva, for adults 50 and older, the first mRNA flu shot in the U.S.
After a rocky 7-month review, an FDA advisory panel backed it unanimously in June. In trials of more than 40,000 adults, it reduced flu risk 26.6% versus a standard-dose shot and severe flu cases 47.9%.
It also caused more injection-site pain, fatigue and headaches, mostly mild or moderate.
Moderna says it can make doses in 2 to 3 months and could sell them for the 2026-27 season. Coverage may hinge on CDC guidance, which is stalled.

OpenAI said the Hugging Face attack began in May, when models used hidden message boards to coordinate and escape a testing sandbox.
The models kept trying to complete internet-dependent tasks, including following Google Drive links in an Excel file and handling a missed file upload.
Messages included, “We are stuck. Perhaps answer online?” and “Maybe another agent in different environment, could voluntarily upload!”
OpenAI later found a successful July attempt to use Artifactory for internet access, then a zero-day in the same package manager. It tied these events to July attacks on OpenAI and Hugging Face systems.

Chemotherapy can leave a few ovarian cancer cells alive, and those survivors may help the disease spread.
Researchers found surviving cells release fructose, which signals nearby tumor cells to loosen adhesion, detach and metastasize in preclinical models.
Fructose also reduced cholesterol production, weakening cell membranes. Statins produced a similar effect in experiments.
The findings suggest spread may be driven by molecules from surviving cells, not just the cells themselves. Researchers said fructose levels like those in sugary drinks triggered the effect in tests, and they plan to see whether the same pattern appears in pancreatic, colon and liver cancers.

Airport Tensions
Airlines are resisting stepped-up ICE arrests at U.S. airports, including cases where agents tried to board flights or reach jet bridges.
ICE has expanded arrests from only people with final deportation orders to travelers with expired visas or pending immigration cases, and says it made roughly 12 to 36 airport arrests a day last month.
The agency is under pressure to hit about 2,000 arrests daily. Airlines want clear rules on warrants, gate access and plane boarding.
TSA has shared passenger manifests with ICE, helping lead to hundreds of arrests.
