Cooking Oil Embargo on China

President Trump may halt cooking oil trade with China in response to Beijing’s refusal to buy U.S. soybeans since May 2025. China previously purchased 27 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans worth $12.8 billion in 2024 but now sources them from Brazil and Argentina.

The U.S. agreed to a $20 billion currency swap with Argentina, which suspended soybean export taxes. Trump cited China’s actions as economically hostile and proposed cutting cooking oil imports, despite China’s record exports of used cooking oil, with the U.S. buying 43% of it.

Trade tensions escalated as Trump threatened doubled tariffs from November 1. China’s economy shows deflation and weak demand amid ongoing disputes.

Is cutting cooking oil trade with China an effective way to pressure them to resume buying U.S. soybeans?

Hamas Reasserts Control

Hamas executed at least seven men accused of collaboration in Gaza’s Sabra neighborhood amid efforts to reassert control after an Israeli partial withdrawal. Clashes continue between Hamas and local clans tied to extremism and looting.

President Trump said Hamas agreed to disarm under his peace plan but warned of forced disarmament if they resist; Hamas has not committed publicly. Hamas controls key routes and allowed Red Cross passage of hostages and bodies.

The ceasefire led to release of all 20 living Israeli hostages and return of some deceased; Israel reports 23 bodies remain missing. Netanyahu insists war ends only if Hamas disarms.

Should Hamas be forcibly disarmed by outside powers if it refuses to disarm voluntarily?

Today in Anna’s Daybreak Wall Street Insider Trades, Insiders sent a clear message last week.

They bought $0 worth of their own stock. But they sold nearly $49 million.

The selling is concentrated in the market's hottest sectors: AI and semiconductors.

Nvidia's CEO cashed out $42.9 million. At SoundHound AI, the CEO, CTO, and head of engineering all sold shares at the same time. One AMD executive just made a sale that was 28 times larger than her recent average, reducing her holdings by almost 30%.

These aren't random trades. They're signals.

Our new report breaks down exactly who is selling, how much, and what it could mean for these stocks before the rest of the market catches on. Read it now!

US Steps Up Deadly Strikes on Drug-Smuggling Boats Near Venezuela

Since September, the US has conducted at least five military strikes on drug-smuggling boats near Venezuela, killing 27 people. President Trump labeled the targets “narcoterrorists” linked to drug trafficking and terrorist networks.

The strikes occurred in international waters with no US casualties. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced a new task force under US Southern Command to target drug cartels, framing the situation as an “armed conflict.” Venezuela and Colombia have condemned the strikes, questioning their legality.

The US also offered a $50 million reward for information on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s alleged drug activities. The campaign mixes military action with political pressure on Venezuela’s leadership.

Should the US use military force in international waters against suspected drug-smuggling vessels?

Did you know we also write in-depth deep dives? They are long, packed with insights, and have received rave reviews. If you’re up for a detailed, action-packed read, check them out:

Fed Poised for Another Rate Cut

The Fed cut rates by 0.25% in September and signals another cut soon amid mixed economic data. Unemployment held at 4.3% in August, but job growth slowed sharply, with September data delayed due to a government shutdown.

Q3 GDP growth is estimated near 4%, contrasting soft labor reports. The Fed’s balance sheet exceeds $9 trillion but quantitative tightening from $6 trillion may pause to maintain bank reserves. Inflation, partly driven by tariffs, is forecast between 2.5% and 3.3% next year.

Fed officials are divided between concerns over persistent inflation and protecting the labor market. The next Fed meeting is October 28-29.

Do you believe another Fed interest rate cut will help stabilize the economy or risk creating new problems?

LSD-Based Drug for Anxiety

A single dose of MM120, an LSD-based drug, reduced anxiety symptoms by 5-6 points beyond placebo over 12 weeks in a 200-participant trial for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

Current treatments like Zoloft reduce scores by only about 1.25 points. MM120 enhances neuroplasticity and brain connectivity, potentially altering negative thought patterns in GAD.

High doses caused side effects including hallucinations and nausea but showed no added benefit. Psychedelics like LSD, psilocybin, and MDMA target serotonin 2A receptors and may reverse neural damage from chronic stress, offering advantages over traditional drugs.

More research and regulatory development are needed to address safety, dosing, and therapy integration.

Would you personally consider taking a psychedelic-derived medication if it promised significantly better relief from severe anxiety?

Diet Sodas Raise Liver Disease Risks

A study of over 123,000 adults found that drinking more than one daily serving of sugar-sweetened (SSBs) or low-/no-sugar sweetened beverages (LNSSBs) raises the risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).

LNSSBs increased MASLD risk by 60% and severe liver outcomes by 56%, also linking to higher liver mortality. SSBs increased MASLD risk by 50% but showed no significant link to liver death. Both types raised liver fat by 5–7%.

Replacing these drinks with water lowered MASLD risk by 13–15%, but switching from SSBs to LNSSBs did not reduce risk. MASLD affects 30–38% globally and can cause serious liver damage.

Do you think the common assumption that diet sodas are healthier than sugary sodas should change based on this study?
