Michigan Church Attack

Thomas Jacob Sanford, a 40-year-old Marine veteran, attacked the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan.

He rammed his vehicle into the building, fired an assault rifle, killing four and injuring eight, then set the church on fire using gasoline. Three explosive devices were found, though their role in the fire is unclear. Sanford died in a shootout with police eight minutes after the call.

The FBI leads the investigation, with no motive identified. The attack occurred during Sunday services attended by hundreds and is the 324th U.S. mass shooting in 2025, following similar veteran-involved shootings in North Carolina and Texas.

Big Tech has a playbook: when you're late to a hot market, you buy your way in.

Right now, Apple is staring down a $158B smart home market and they're miles behind Google (who paid $3.2B for Nest) and Amazon (who paid $1.2B for Ring).

With their new smart home products, Apple just fired the starting gun. The multi-billion-dollar question is: who will they buy?

Early investors in Nest and Ring made fortunes. History is repeating itself.

Russia's 12-Hour Drone and Missile Barrage

Russia launched a 12-hour assault on Kyiv and multiple Ukrainian cities using nearly 600 drones and 50 missiles. Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted 568 drones and 43 missiles, but some penetrated, killing four—including a child—and injuring over 70.

Damage affected homes, factories, energy facilities, and diplomatic buildings. Zaporizhzhia faced a separate missile strike injuring 38 and damaging apartments. Russia cited military targets, denying civilian strikes.

Poland temporarily closed border airspace after the attacks. Ukraine received an Israeli Patriot system and awaits two more, while developing drone countermeasures.

The U.S. is considering sending long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Russia has suffered 1.1 million troop losses since 2022.

Should Ukraine’s potential acquisition of U.S. long-range Tomahawk missiles be seen primarily as a defensive necessity or an escalation risk?

Pentagon Orders 200 Oregon National Guard Troops

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered 200 Oregon National Guard troops to federal service for 60 days to protect ICE facilities in Portland.

Oregon officials sued, claiming the deployment is unlawful and federal overreach, citing mostly peaceful protests since June 2025 and a 51% drop in violent crime citywide. The lawsuit challenges using Title 10 to shift Guard command to federal control. Protests intensified around ICE sites, with 26 federal charges including arson and assault.

The Trump administration's deployment echoes actions in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., where similar troop use faced legal challenges under the Posse Comitatus Act.

How justified is the Pentagon’s deployment of troops to protect ICE facilities in Portland at this time?

Trump-Xi-Taiwan

Chinese President Xi Jinping aims for U.S. President Donald Trump to formally oppose Taiwan’s independence during trade talks. Beijing views Taiwan as a breakaway province and wants eventual absorption, seeing a clear U.S. stance against Taiwan sovereignty as weakening Taiwan and boosting China’s influence.

The U.S. currently follows the “One China Policy,” avoiding explicit positions on Taiwan’s independence. Trump has avoided firm statements to protect trade negotiations. Analysts say China will increase pressure to destabilize U.S.-Taiwan relations but cannot quickly change U.S. policy.

Reports suggest Russia is supplying China with military equipment possibly for an airborne Taiwan attack, heightening regional tensions.

Should the U.S. explicitly oppose Taiwan’s independence to support regional stability?

Key Defender Against Heart Disease

Researchers found that the protein GADD45A protects the heart by preventing pathological cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, inflammation, and cell death.

Mice lacking GADD45A showed increased activation of inflammatory factors AP-1, NF-κB, and STAT3, leading to worse heart function. Overexpressing GADD45A in human heart cells reduced inflammatory and fibrotic responses to tumor necrosis factor-alpha.

The protein thus helps maintain cardiac health by regulating stress responses. This protective role is especially relevant for type 2 diabetes patients, who have a higher risk of heart failure. The findings suggest enhancing GADD45A activity could offer new treatment options for heart disease.

Scientists propose enhancing GADD45A as a future therapy. Would you be open to treatments that modify gene expression or protein levels to prevent heart disease?

Mangos Lower Blood Sugar

A 24-week study of 46 adults with prediabetes compared daily intake of 300 grams fresh mango (32g natural sugar) to a calorie-matched granola bar (11g added sugar).

The mango group showed lower fasting blood glucose, stable HbA1c, increased fat-free mass, and a trend toward reduced body fat. The granola bar group had increased HbA1c, BMI, and waist-to-hip ratio.

Researchers suggest mango’s fiber, vitamins, and bioactive compounds help regulate glucose better than added sugars in processed snacks. The study highlights that sugar source and food matrix affect blood sugar control more than sugar amount.

Would you be willing to replace a lower-sugar processed snack with a higher-sugar fruit daily if research shows metabolic benefits?
