Trump's Reciprocal Tariffs
President Trump has imposed a 10% baseline tariff on nearly all imports, effective April 5. Tariffs on China will soar to 34%, Japan to 24% and India to 26%, while those on the European Union will reach 20%.
The average US tariff rate has jumped to 22%, an increase from 2.5% in 2024. Gold, aluminum and steel are exempt.
This marks the highest tariff level seen since 1910. In response, Canada and Mexico will maintain their existing 25% tariffs. The EU and China promised countermeasures.

Senate Republicans Push for Tax Cuts and Debt Increase
Senate Republicans presented a budget plan to fast-track tax cuts and raise the national debt limit by $5 trillion.
This budget outlines a $4 trillion extension of President Trump's 2017 tax cuts, plus an additional $1.5 trillion in new tax cuts.
With a 53-47 majority, Senate Republicans can use a reconciliation process to pass the budget with fewer votes.

Oracle’s Second Data Breach in a Month
Oracle reported a second cybersecurity breach within a month. A hacker accessed a legacy computer system and stole client log-in credentials.
This breach occurred just after another incident targeted healthcare clients in March.
The stolen data includes usernames, passkeys, and encrypted passwords. Oracle reassured clients that the compromised system has not been used for eight years.
The FBI and cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike are investigating the incidents. The attacker sought an extortion payment from Oracle.

Do you believe Oracle’s claim that the compromised system was inactive for 8 years reduces the seriousness of the breach?Click to see live results and comment! |

Quantum Entanglement Filter
Researchers developed the first optical filter capable of isolating and preserving quantum entanglement.
This technology enhances the reliability of quantum computing and communication networks.
They created a new type of filter that uses laser-written glass channels, called waveguides, to guide light. This filter can recover quantum correlations with 99% fidelity.
The breakthrough relies on a concept called anti-parity-time (APT) symmetry. This design allows the filter to guide light toward a stable entangled state effectively.

Tiny Pacemakers
Scientists developed the world's smallest pacemaker. It measures 1.8 mm wide and 3.5 mm long, smaller than a grain of rice.
This device can be injected via a tiny syringe and dissolves in the body after use.
The pacemaker is designed for newborns with congenital heart defects. About 1% of infants are affected annually and only need temporary pacing for about seven days post-surgery.
This device pairs with a wearable patch that detects heart irregularities. When such irregularities occur, the patch emits light signals, activating the pacemaker. Powered by a galvanic cell using body fluids, this device avoids external batteries.
