Trump and Xi Summit in June
The US and China are exploring a "birthday summit" slated for June 2025, featuring President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Both leaders aim to improve diplomatic relations during this meeting.
The Trump administration recently raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 20% as of March 4. In retaliation, China imposed a 15% tax on American chicken, pork, soybeans, and beef.
US farm exports to China have declined from a peak of $38 billion in 2022 to just $25 billion in 2024. In January 2025, these exports dropped 56% year-over-year.

Historic Kurdish Deal in Syria
Syria's interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), signed a deal that aims to integrate the SDF into the Syrian state, affirming the rights of Syria's Kurds.
By the year's end, control of all border crossings, airports, and oil fields in the northeast will shift to the central government.
The deal also promises representation for all Syrians, regardless of religion or ethnicity. However, concerns remain about potential retaliatory violence against the Alawite community.
Recent clashes resulted in 1,300 casualties, including 1,068 civilians. The violence began in Latakia when gunmen loyal to former President Assad targeted police.

Delta Airlines Adjusts Q1 Forecast
Delta Air Lines has revised its first-quarter profit outlook. The company now expects earnings per share (EPS) in the range of $0.30 to $0.50. This is a decrease from the earlier forecast of $0.70 to $1.00.
Additionally, Delta projects total revenue growth of only 3% to 4%, down from the previous estimate of 7% to 9%. Analysts had initially anticipated a profit of $0.86 per share.
The updated guidance also includes an expected operating margin of 4% to 5%, down from the prior estimate of 6% to 8%.
The airline attributes this downgrade to a decline in consumer and corporate confidence, which has softened domestic travel demand. However, revenue from premium, international, and loyalty programs remains strong.

The CHIPS Act Under Fire
President Trump proposed canceling the $52.7 billion in funding for the CHIPS Act, which aims to boost U.S. semiconductor production. This initiative has already financed $30.6 billion in grants to 19 companies and is expected to create 145,000 jobs.
This call for repeal would require congressional approval and could be unpopular among Republicans whose states benefit from the funding.
Several Republican senators expressed surprise at Trumpâs comments, emphasizing past commitments to support the CHIPS Act.
The act received bipartisan backing in 20222, with 24 House Republicans voting for its passage. Repealing it could risk backlash and lawsuits from affected companies.

Supercharged CAR-T Therapy
Researchers unveiled ALA-CART, a next-generation CAR-T cell therapy. This approach aims to enhance the immune system's ability to target resistant cancer cells, particularly acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL).
ALA-CART improves T-cell effectiveness, allowing them to detect and destroy cancer cells that traditional therapies often miss. The study used human T-cells and leukemia cells in mouse models.
ALA-CART has the potential for longer-lasting results and may also reduce the side effects common with current therapies.
The research team plans to initiate clinical trials within the next two years, focusing on other challenging cancers including acute myeloid leukemia and multiple myeloma.

Psilocybin and Concussions
Research revealed psilocybin's potential to restore brain function after mild head injuries in female rats.
In the experiment, scientists mimicked mild head trauma by delivering impacts to the rats for three days. They administered a dose of 3.0 mg/kg of psilocybin immediately after each impact to half the rats.
MRI scans showed that the treated rats not only recovered but also showed enhanced brain connectivity. They displayed less brain swelling, particularly in areas like the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex.
The study also noted a decrease in levels of phosphorylated tau, a protein linked to neurodegenerative diseases.
