Trump Delays EU Tariffs
The U.S. will delay a 50% tariff on EU goods until July 9, 2025, originally scheduled for June 1. President Trump announced the extension after a call with Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, who requested more time for trade negotiations.
Trump emphasized his desire for a favorable deal, while von der Leyen indicated the EU's readiness to negotiate swiftly. The delay aims to facilitate dialogue and mitigate market volatility, which had heightened due to earlier tariff threats.
Following the announcement, both the euro and U.S. dollar rose against safe-haven currencies, reflecting market reactions to the potential resolution.

Ukraine Faces Unprecedented Assault
Russia launched a major aerial assault on Ukraine, using 367 drones and missiles in a single night, resulting in 12 deaths and over 60 injuries, including three children.
Ukraine's Air Force intercepted over 300 projectiles, but substantial damage occurred across regions, notably affecting over 80 residential buildings. President Zelensky urged for stronger economic sanctions against Russia, highlighting the lack of response from global leaders.
President Trump suggested that he could consider imposing additional sanctions on Russia.
In a separate event, Ukraine and Russia conducted a prisoner swap of 1,000 individuals, marking the conflict's largest exchange.

Israel's New Plan
Israel aims to capture 75% of the Gaza Strip in two months to eliminate Hamas, pushing civilians into 25% of the territory.
The Israeli military controls 40% of Gaza and has intensified operations, focusing on holding territory. A U.S.-backed aid program will distribute supplies through constructed complexes, requiring families to send representatives every five days.
Critics argue the program compromises neutrality and safety. Over 53,000 Palestinians have died in the conflict, with Hamas holding 58 hostages, 20 of whom are believed alive.

Nvidia Launching Cheaper AI Chips for China
Nvidia plans to launch a new AI chip for the Chinese market, priced between $6,500 and $8,000, compared to the previous H20 model at $10,000 to $12,000. Mass production is set for June 2025.
The new chip will utilize GDDR7 memory and omit advanced packaging technology to meet U.S. export regulations. Nvidia's market share in China fell from 95% in 2022 to 50%, impacting sales significantly.
U.S. export controls led Nvidia to incur a $5.5 billion inventory write-off and lose about $15 billion in potential sales. A second Blackwell chip for China is under development for production in September 2025.

Semaglutide for Cardiovascular Protection
Semaglutide has been shown to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events by 40% for obese adults, according to the SELECT trial.
The study involved 17,604 participants aged 45 and older, with a 50% decrease in cardiovascular death risk within six months. While no substantial weight loss occurred initially, the drug's heart-protective effects emerged before reaching the full dose of 2.4 mg.
The trial, focusing on those with existing heart disease, highlights semaglutide's potential in addressing obesity-related cardiovascular risks, a pressing issue as such deaths rise.

PFA in US Beers
Recent studies found PFAS, or "forever chemicals," in 95% of U.S. beers, primarily due to contaminated municipal water sources. The highest levels were detected in North Carolina’s Chatham and Mecklenburg Counties.
About 18% of U.S. breweries rely on water supplies with detectable PFAS, with smaller breweries facing greater risks due to inadequate filtration.
PFAS exposure is linked to health issues like cancer. The EPA proposed drinking water regulations in 2024, but no standards exist for PFAS in beer.
