China’s Exports Stumble
China's exports declined in April 2025 due to increased U.S. tariffs, reaching up to 145%. The manufacturing PMI fell to 49.0, indicating contraction, with the new export orders subindex dropping to 44.7.
Economic growth is projected at 3.5% for China, as larger manufacturers struggle more than smaller ones.
In response, China imposed tariffs up to 125% on U.S. products, leading to order cancellations by American businesses.
The non-manufacturing PMI also decreased to 50.4, reflecting slower growth in services and construction.

Trump's Auto Tariff Relief
President Trump signed two executive order to ease auto tariffs, responding to lobbying from automakers concerned about financial instability.
The 25% tariffs on imported vehicles will not stack with steel and aluminum levies, allowing for reimbursement on imported components.
Reimbursements start at 3.75% of a U.S.-made vehicle's value, decreasing to 2.5% in the second year. GM and Ford warned of potential price increases of $6,000 per vehicle.
Companies must boost domestic parts production for tariff benefits. GDP growth is predicted to slowdown to 0.3%.

Coalition Forces Strike Houthi Drone Operations in Yemen
U.S. and UK forces conducted a night operation in Yemen targeting Houthi drone production sites near Sanaa to protect shipping routes.
The operation followed an escalation in U.S. airstrikes since March, aimed at disrupting Houthi attacks on maritime traffic. Recent strikes have hit over 800 targets, with claims of numerous Houthi casualties.
Following Houthi media reports of a U.S. airstrike killing 68 at a migrant center, the U.S. is investigating civilian casualties.

Anti-Depression Sound Waves
A new sound wave therapy shows promise for treating depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
In a clinical trial, 29 patients underwent daily non-invasive ultrasound treatments targeting the amygdala for three weeks, resulting in marked symptom improvement.
This low-intensity focused ultrasound method avoids surgery and medication, offering hope for individuals unresponsive to traditional treatments.
The therapy was found safe, with no serious adverse events reported, supporting the need for larger trials to explore its full potential in mental health treatment.

Chilly Feet and Heavy Legs
New research links cold feet and leg heaviness to varicose veins, analyzing data from 8,782 adults.
Cold feet increase the risk by 49% to 89%, while heavy legs raise the risk by 300%. Among participants with moderate cold hypersensitivity, only 9% had varicose veins, compared to 14% with extreme sensitivity.
Jobs requiring prolonged standing raise the risk by 45%. Though often harmless, varicose veins can cause discomfort. Symptoms can be relieved with compression socks and leg elevation, but severe cases may need treatments like sclerotherapy.
Early recognition of symptoms is essential to prevent complications like blood clots and ulcers.
