Overhaul of AI Chip Regulations
The Trump administration plans to revoke Biden-era restrictions on AI chip exports to simplify semiconductor trade.
The previous "AI diffusion rule," set to take effect in 2025, categorized countries into three tiers with varying purchase limits. Aiming for negotiations with nations like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the administration seeks to address national security concerns while supporting U.S. tech firms.
Nvidia's stock rose 3% following the announcement, although the company faces a $5.5 billion charge from prior restrictions. AMD anticipates a $1.5 billion revenue loss in 2025. Finalization of new rules is expected to take months.

Apple is overhauling Safari with AI-powered search features, challenging Google's search engine dominance.
In May 2025, Safari's searches dropped as users turned to AI. Apple aims to replace Google as the default search engine, despite Google paying about $20 billion annually for this placement.
Alphabet's shares fell 7.3%, losing $150 billion in market value. Google holds 90% search market share.
Apple plans to offer alternatives like OpenAI and Perplexity.

New Autism Research Initiative
Federal health officials launched a $50 million autism research initiative utilizing Medicare and Medicaid data to investigate autism spectrum disorder (ASD) causes.
The National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will create a database combining claims data, electronic medical records, and wearable health device information.
The initiative will focus on autism diagnosis trends, health outcomes, access to care, demographic disparities, and economic impacts on families. Privacy concerns remain regarding data handling.
Autism currently affects 1 in 31 eight-year-olds in the U.S., underscoring the need for improved understanding and intervention strategies.

Early Detection of Diabetes
Researchers from the University of Tokyo developed a noninvasive method for early diabetes detection using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM).
This approach improves upon traditional blood tests by identifying individuals with impaired glucose regulation often missed by standard tests. The study, involving 64 participants, demonstrated that CGM data correlates strongly with the disposition index, a predictive marker for diabetes risk.
A new web application has been created for easy calculation of CGM-based indices, enabling timely interventions to prevent diabetes and related complications such as coronary artery disease.
