Israel-Iran Ceasefire
President Donald Trump announced a phased ceasefire deal that would roll out over 24 hours.
Despite Trump’s phased 24-hour plan, Iran denies a formal agreement but offers to stop attacks if Israel halts strikes by 4 a.m. Tehran time. Israel’s airspace closed temporarily amid ongoing attacks this morning. Iran also launched an attack on a US airbase in Qatar.
Qatar mediated talks. Global powers call for a UN ceasefire, likely vetoed by the U.S. U.S. agencies warn of possible Iranian retaliation threats domestically, heightening security.

Supreme Court Clears Path for Rapid Deportations
The Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to resume rapid deportations of migrants to third countries without prior notice or the chance to claim risk of torture.
The 6-3 conservative majority lifted a lower court’s order requiring 10 days' notice and due process. The policy targets migrants with serious criminal convictions who cannot return to their home countries. Attempts to deport men to unstable South Sudan raised safety concerns.
Advocates warn this exposes thousands to potential harm. The administration argues these deportations are essential for removing dangerous criminals and comply with due process.

Visa Wins Gift Cards Scam Lawsuit
Visa won a lawsuit over prepaid Vanilla gift cards draining fraud after thieves skimmed card data from thin packaging. The court ruled consumers shouldn’t expect gift cards to be scam-proof and Visa’s logo doesn’t guarantee fraud protection.
The plaintiff’s eight $500 cards were emptied by criminals exploiting packaging vulnerability. Authorities highlight rising gift card fraud as a national security risk.
Meanwhile, Visa is advancing stablecoin technology for emerging markets, partnering with firms to enable stablecoin payments, addressing currency volatility and cross-border needs.
However, in developed markets, Visa expects most users to continue relying on fiat currency via its network.

This Company with a pre-money valuation of only C$3million is completing a C$3million seed equity raise for the restart of the fully permitted Gold Road mine in Arizona, USA. The current low company valuation offers near-term potential for a significant re-rating from the production start, a public quotation, and an additional one million ounces of gold exploration upside.
The cost to build Gold Road from scratch today would be close to US$100 million and management plans to grow production to 20,000 ounces of gold per year in 2025/26. In a strong gold price environment this could lead to a US$40+million EBITDA in 2026 and potential for a very healthy dividend yield paid in physical gold and silver.
Management has a proven track record and plans to go public in Q1 2026.

Housing Market Stalls
Existing-home sales rose 0.8% in May to 4.03 million units but remain at the slowest pace for May since 2009 and down 0.7% year-over-year.
Median home prices held near $423,000, with price growth slowing to 1.3% annually. Mortgage rates exceed 6.5%, limiting affordability; only 37% of homes were affordable to $100,000 earners, down from 65% six years ago. Inventory increased 6.2% from April, with homes on market for 27 days.
Inflation pressures from tariffs and input costs rose, pushing manufacturing prices to a near two-year high.

Reactivating Fetal Hemoglobin to Fight Blood Disorders
Researchers developed a CRISPR-Cas9 gene therapy method called “delete-to-recruit” that reactivates fetal hemoglobin genes by deleting DNA segments to reposition genes closer to enhancers.
This targets sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia, which are caused by defective adult hemoglobin genes leading to anemia and organ damage. Reactivated fetal hemoglobin can substitute the faulty adult version, producing healthy red blood cells.
The method worked successfully in blood stem cells and reduces risks by editing enhancer distances without adding foreign genes.

Collagen’s Secret to Strength
Researchers used atomic force microscopy to observe collagen’s triple-helix structure unfolding at high temperatures and refolding when cooled.
They found cysteine amino acids in collagen IV form bonding “staples” between strands that stabilize the protein and enable heat resistance and self-repair.
Collagens lacking these bonds cannot refold after heating. These cysteine staples are widespread across multicellular species, highlighting their essential role. This study surpasses prior work focused on short peptides by analyzing full-length collagen.
Future research will examine mutated or chemically altered collagen linked to diseases like brittle bone disease, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and diabetes, aiming to improve treatment approaches for connective tissue disorders.
