Israel Strikes Hezbollah

Israel conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah drone facilities in southern Beirut, marking its most significant attack since a November 2024 ceasefire.

The Israeli military alleges Hezbollah, with Iranian support, is producing thousands of drones in underground facilities. The airstrikes occurred just before the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha. Israel informed the U.S. ahead of the strikes.

Lebanon's leaders condemned the strikes as violations of international law and sovereignty. Meanwhile, Hezbollah denied the existence of the targeted facilities.

Lebanon reportedly has dismantled over 500 Hezbollah positions, achieving about 80% of its disarmament goals.

Do you believe Israel's airstrikes on Hezbollah's facilities were justified?

Sharp Decline in Trade Deficit

In April, the U.S. trade deficit fell 55.5% to $61.6 billion, the lowest since 2023, unexpectedly better than the forecast of $66 billion. Imports dropped 16.3% to $351 billion, with consumer goods down 32% to $69.9 billion, including a $26 billion decline in pharmaceuticals.

Imports from China fell to a five-year low of $28.3 billion. Exports increased by 3% to $289.4 billion, aided by a rise in gold purchases due to tariff concerns.

Despite the trade deficit's sharp decline, analysts warn of a sluggish economic outlook with ongoing uncertainty around future tariffs impacting trade patterns and inventory levels.

How do you feel about the narrowing trade deficit?

Iran Orders Thousands of Tons of Missile Ingredients

Iran has ordered thousands of tons of ballistic missile components, primarily ammonium perchlorate, from a Hong Kong company to enhance its military capabilities.

The shipment may allow Iran to produce around 800 missiles and could be supplied to aligned militias like the Houthis in Yemen. Despite international pressure, Iran is expanding its uranium stockpiles and has ruled out negotiations on missile limitations.

U.S. sanctions target individuals aiding Iran's missile development. Experts warn of safety risks in handling these materials, exemplified by a recent explosion linked to mishandling.

Do you think the international community is doing enough to address Iran's military ambitions?

Hidden Health Risks in Beauty Products

A study in South Los Angeles found that over 53% of Black and Latina women reported using personal care products with formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, which are linked to cancer.

Of the 70 participants, 47% of skincare and 58% of hair products contained DMDM hydantoin. This research reveals regulatory gaps in the U.S., primarily concerning hair relaxers tied to elevated cancer risks. Advocates call for better oversight and warning labels similar to European standards.

The FDA proposed a national ban on formaldehyde in hair straighteners, but it remains unimplemented.

How important are ingredient labels to you when choosing personal care products?

Bowel Cancer in Young Adults

Bowel cancer is rising among adults under 50, despite overall cases declining due to screening for those over 50. Over 15,000 new cases are reported annually, making it the fourth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths.

Individuals born in the 1990s face two to three times the risk compared to those born in the 1950s. Contributing factors may include diet, lifestyle, and E. coli toxins.

Symptoms to watch for include blood in stool or changes in bowel habits. As of 2024, adults aged 45-49 can request screening kits, underscoring the need for increased participation in screening programs.
