Tehran Evacuation

Israel ordered 330,000 Tehran residents to evacuate a central area housing state TV, police headquarters, and hospitals. Iranian media showed a live broadcast cut short as an Israeli strike hit the state TV studio

President Trump abruptly left the G7 summit in Canada early and urged evacuation of Tehran.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi signaled willingness to return to talks if Israel halts strikes. However, Iran demands the right to continue uranium enrichment.

Do you think the US should join in the airstrike campaign in Iran?

US-UK Trade Deal Signed

The US and UK signed a trade deal reducing tariffs on British cars from 27.5% to 10% for up to 100,000 units annually and eliminating a 10% tariff on UK aerospace products.

The deal allows 13,000 metric tons of US beef exports to the UK yearly, despite hormone-treatment bans, and cuts UK barriers on US beef and ethanol.

Steel and aluminum tariffs remain unsettled; the US keeps a 25% tariff but will apply quota exemptions set by Commerce Secretary Lutnick. No agreement was reached on pharmaceuticals.

How confident are you that this trade deal positively signals stronger future US-UK economic cooperation?

Senate Republicans Unveil Tax and Spending Bill

Senate Republicans proposed a tax and spending bill to extend Trump-era tax cuts and raise the federal debt ceiling by $5 trillion to $41.2 trillion. The bill retains the $10,000 SALT deduction cap, opposed by House Republicans.

It makes some business tax breaks permanent and phases out clean energy credits more slowly. Medicaid-related provider taxes would be capped at 3.5% by 2031, down from 6%, affecting over 35 states, and imposes work requirements on certain Medicaid recipients.

The bill limits deductions on tip income for higher earners. It increases military and border security funding but faces GOP divisions and unified Democratic opposition. Passage requires near-total Republican support before July 4.

Given current political divisions, do you believe this tax and spending bill will pass Congress?

OpenAI Lands $200 Million Pentagon Deal

BCP Brain Tumor Risk

Long-term use of the contraceptive pill desogestrel is linked to a small increase in risk for intracranial meningioma brain tumors after five years, rising from about 1 in 67,000 to 1 in 17,000.

This elevated risk disappears one year after stopping the pill. No increased risk was found with levonorgestrel, another progestogen. Risk is higher in women over 45 and those with prior use of other high-risk progestogens.

Tumors often appear in the front or middle skull. Experts advise monitoring long-term desogestrel users and suggest stopping the drug may reduce tumor size if meningioma develops.

Given the small but increased risk of brain tumors after long-term desogestrel use, how should women approach contraceptive choices?

Hidden Dangers in Everyday Water

Over 500,000 children under five die annually from bacterial gastrointestinal infections linked to unsafe water and poor sanitation. Studies show stored household water spreads harmful bacteria like E. coli, with more sharing between humans and stored water than animals.

Some bacteria carry antibiotic resistance genes. Chlorination reduces contamination, suggesting community-level water treatment is effective. Stagnant tap water and iron plumbing promote bacterial growth and resistance, especially Salmonella and Pseudomonas.

Over 20% of reusable water bottles contain fecal coliform bacteria due to improper cleaning. Experts advise daily rinsing, weekly washing with detergent, thorough drying, avoiding sharing, and keeping bottles cool.

How likely are you to change your water storage or bottle cleaning habits after reading about bacterial contamination risks?
