Trump at the UN
President Trump expressed confidence in Ukraine's ability to reclaim all territory lost to Russia, including Crimea, during his UN statement. He praised President Zelenskyy for Ukraine's efforts and emphasized NATO's potential support.
This stance marks a departure from Trump's earlier view favoring territorial concessions for peace. Trump called for NATO to intercept Russian aircraft violating airspace and criticized Russia's military and economic performance, offering to impose stricter sanctions if negotiations fail.
The ongoing conflict has led to a 40% rise in Ukrainian civilian casualties in 2025 compared to 2024, highlighting the war's severe impact on civilians.

“Nightmare Bacteria” in the US
The U.S. experienced a nearly 70% rise in drug-resistant "nightmare bacteria" infections from 2019 to 2023, with cases exceeding 4,341 across 29 states.
The increase is linked to bacteria carrying the NDM gene, which is resistant to most antibiotics. Infection rates surged from just under 2 per 100,000 to over 3 per 100,000, with NDM cases rising 460%.
The rise in infections correlates with increased antibiotic use during the COVID-19 pandemic, though many cases go unreported due to inadequate testing in several states. Experts urge improved hygiene practices and responsible antibiotic use to combat this health threat.

$500 Billion Stargate Project
OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank plan to establish five new AI data centers as part of the $500 billion Stargate project, boosting total capacity to nearly 7 gigawatts.
The sites are in Texas, New Mexico, Ohio, and an undisclosed Midwest location. The goal is to reach 10 gigawatts by the end of 2025, with over $400 billion already secured.
The partnership includes an additional 4.5 gigawatts of capacity, projected to create over 25,000 jobs. OpenAI's flagship site in Texas currently uses Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and NVIDIA components. NVIDIA is investing up to $100 billion in the project to address increasing AI infrastructure needs.

US Business Activity
U.S. business activity slowed for the second consecutive month in September, with the S&P Global Composite PMI dropping to 53.6. Manufacturing PMI fell to 52.0, and the services PMI decreased to 53.9.
Firms struggled to pass rising input costs, with prices paid rising to 62.6, but prices charged fell to 56.0 amid weak demand. New orders declined slightly, and the labor market softened, averaging 29,000 nonfarm payroll gains monthly over three months.
Despite higher input costs, inflation risks remain manageable. The Federal Reserve recently reduced interest rates by 25 basis points, reflecting concerns about cooling demand and restrained pricing power for businesses.

Alcohol and Dementia
New research indicates that any level of alcohol consumption raises dementia risk, challenging previous views that light drinking may protect cognitive health. The study involved 559,559 adults aged 56 to 72 monitored for up to 15 years.
Findings showed the highest dementia risk among non-drinkers and heavy drinkers, while light drinkers showed no protective effects. Analyzing genetic data from 2.4 million individuals, researchers found a 15% higher dementia risk for an increase of 1-3 drinks weekly.
The study suggests halving alcohol use disorder prevalence could reduce dementia cases by 16%. Researchers highlight the need to reconsider alcohol's impact on brain health.

Kimchi Superfood
Recent studies show that consuming fermented kimchi reduces fasting glucose by 1.93 mg/dL, triglycerides by 28.88 mg/dL, and lowers blood pressure (systolic by 3.48 mmHg and diastolic by 2.68 mmHg).
Despite its high sodium content, beneficial bacteria in kimchi may mitigate sodium's effects. The U.S. market for kimchi is projected to reach $8.6 billion by 2035. While promising, the research was conducted in Korea, necessitating further studies in the U.S. to understand broader implications.
Kimchi is gaining global popularity as a functional food that may improve heart health and metabolic markers.
