Trump-Putin Summit Shelved

President Trump canceled a planned summit with Vladimir Putin after stalled Ukraine peace talks between U.S. and Russian diplomats.

Russia demands full control of Donbas, controlling all Luhansk and 75% of Donetsk, as a precondition for peace, rejecting ceasefires without territorial concessions. European nations and NATO oppose Russia’s demands, advocating an immediate ceasefire along current lines.

Trump’s Ukraine policy shifted from proposing missile supplies to urging Ukraine to freeze conflict lines, aligning partially with Kyiv but not Russia. Kremlin insists no ceasefire without a comprehensive deal; no summit date is set.

The White House expresses skepticism about productive talks, while Europe emphasizes pressure without territorial compromises.

Should U.S. military aid to Ukraine include long-range weapons like Tomahawks despite the risk of escalation?

Crash Expert: “This Looks Like 1929” → 70,000 Hedging Here

Mark Spitznagel, who made $1B in a single day during the 2015 flash crash, warns markets are mimicking 1929. Yeah, just another oracle spouting gloom and doom, right?

Vanguard and Goldman Sachs forecast just 5% and 3% annual S&P returns respectively for the next decade (2024-2034).

Bonds? Not much better.

Enough warning signals—what’s something investors can actually do to diversify this week?

Almost no one knows this, but postwar and contemporary art appreciated 11.2% annually with near-zero correlation to equities from 1995–2024, according to Masterworks Data.

And sure… billionaires like Bezos and Gates can make headlines at auction, but what about the rest of us?

Masterworks makes it possible to invest in legendary artworks by Banksy, Basquiat, Picasso, and more – without spending millions.

23 exits. Net annualized returns like 17.6%, 17.8%, and 21.5%. $1.2 billion invested.

Shares in new offerings can sell quickly but…

Trump’s Pick for Special Counsel Withdraws

Paul Ingrassia, Trump’s 30-year-old nominee for Special Counsel, withdrew his nomination citing insufficient Republican support ahead of a scheduled Senate hearing.

Text messages surfaced showing Ingrassia making offensive remarks, including opposing Black culture holidays and referencing a “Nazi streak.” Ingrassia said these comments are jokes taken out of context.Senate Majority Leader John Thune and other top Republicans opposed his confirmation.

Ingrassia, a lawyer who backed efforts to overturn the 2020 election, was nominated to lead the agency investigating whistleblower retaliation and political limits on federal employees.

The withdrawal follows multiple delays over his qualifications and controversial statements. This is a rare confirmation defeat for a Trump nominee in a GOP-controlled Senate.

Should nominees for key federal oversight positions be disqualified based on past controversial or offensive statements, even if those statements are claimed to be jokes or satire?

OpenAI’s Project Mercury

OpenAI’s Project Mercury hired over 100 ex-bankers from JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley at $150/hour to train AI in financial modeling for restructurings, IPOs, and leveraged buyouts.

The AI automates tasks that junior bankers often perform during 80-100 hour workweeks. Contractors undergo a rigorous AI-led hiring process and submit weekly Excel models for training. Major banks pilot AI tools combining proprietary data with OpenAI models; JPMorgan extended a $4 billion credit facility to OpenAI.

The project aims to boost productivity by automating routine workflows, though concerns linger about junior bankers losing hands-on experience. Broader AI adoption spans finance and healthcare, with the AI aging market hitting $35 billion last year.

Should banks pursue becoming fully AI-powered organizations, as JPMorgan aims to do?

North Korea Fires Multiple Ballistic Missiles

North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles, flying about 350 kilometers northeast from south of Pyongyang and landing inland, avoiding Japan’s waters.

This marks the first ballistic missile test since May 2025 and violates international sanctions. The launch occurred days before President Trump’s visit to South Korea for the APEC summit, where he will meet South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

South Korea held an emergency security meeting, sharing data with the U.S. and Japan, which reported no damage. Since 2019, North Korea has developed missile capabilities, including intercontinental missiles capable of reaching the U.S. mainland, contradicting South Korea’s calls for denuclearization and peaceful coexistence.

Does North Korea’s missile launch signal a genuine threat or political posturing?

Reducing Insulin Use in Type 1 Diabetes

A 2025 study found a low-fat vegan diet reduced daily insulin use by 28% (12.1 units) and cut insulin costs by 27% for type 1 diabetes patients over 12 weeks, while improving insulin sensitivity, weight, cholesterol, and kidney function.

U.S. insulin spending reached $22.3 billion in 2022, tripling in a decade with a 24% price rise since 2017. Another 2025 study showed daily freeze-dried strawberry intake (2.5 servings) for 12 weeks lowered fasting glucose and vascular inflammation markers (ICAM, VCAM) in prediabetic adults by boosting antioxidant biomarkers.

Both diets offer food-based strategies to improve diabetes management and reduce costs amid rising prevalence.

What is your primary dietary preference?

Reversing Vision Loss

The PRIMA implant restored central vision in 81% of 32 patients with advanced age-related macular degeneration in a 12-month trial across five European countries.

Patients improved from worse than 20/320 vision to near 20/40, enabling reading and object recognition. The 2x2 mm wireless chip with 378 photovoltaic pixels converts infrared light from glasses into electrical signals stimulating retinal cells.

Side effects like eye pressure increases and minor retinal issues were temporary; peripheral vision was unaffected. Surgery is complex, requiring a year of rehabilitation.

Next-gen chips aim to increase resolution to 10,000 pixels and add grayscale. U.S.-based Science Corporation leads production, seeking FDA and CE approval.

Sources: Sciencealert, Dw, Syfy, Uw.

Considering the current limitation to black-and-white vision, is partial vision restoration valuable enough to justify complex surgery and rehabilitation?
