Trump Admin to Partially Fund SNAP
The Trump administration will partially fund SNAP using $5.25 billion in USDA emergency contingency funds after federal judges ordered it during the government shutdown.
SNAP, serving about 42 million Americans, typically costs $8–9 billion monthly. The partial funding covers roughly 50% of usual benefits, with an average monthly benefit of $190 per person. Payment delays of up to two weeks are possible in some states.
The 34-day shutdown also disrupts Head Start preschool programs and causes flight delays due to air traffic controller shortages. President Trump has declined further funding negotiations until the shutdown ends, leaving millions dependent on reduced or halted federal services.
Given the partial funding of SNAP benefits during the shutdown, do you think the government is fulfilling its responsibility to vulnerable populations?Click to see live results and comment! |

Kimberly-Clark to Acquire Kenvue
Kimberly-Clark agreed to acquire Kenvue, Tylenol's maker, for about $40 billion in cash and stock, valuing Kenvue at $48.7 billion including premiums. The deal includes a 46% premium on Kenvue's share price.
Kenvue’s shares rose 17%, Kimberly-Clark’s fell over 10%. Kenvue faces declining sales, activist pressure, and lawsuits alleging Tylenol causes autism or brain damage, linked to past negative publicity.
Kimberly-Clark expects $32 billion in combined revenue and $7 billion adjusted EBITDA in 2025, targeting $2.1 billion in annual cost synergies. The transaction, closing in late 2026, faces litigation risks but aims to expand market reach and innovation.

Palantir Powers Ahead
Palantir raised its 2025 revenue forecast to $4.4 billion, beating Wall Street’s $4.14 billion estimate. Q3 sales hit $1.18 billion, up 63% year-over-year, surpassing the $1.09 billion forecast.
Adjusted EPS was 21 cents, above the expected 17 cents. U.S. commercial software sales grew 121% to $397 million; government sales rose 52% to $486 million. Q4 revenue guidance ranges from $1.327 billion to $1.331 billion, outperforming estimates.
Palantir secured a $10 billion U.S. Army contract and maintains partnerships with Nvidia, Snowflake, and Lumen. Despite a 170% stock increase in 2025, its valuation trades at 85 times expected sales, with a market cap over $490 billion amid ongoing investor valuation debates.

Al Qaeda Fuel Blockade in Mali
Al Qaeda-linked JNIM has blockaded fuel supplies to Bamako since September 2025, disrupting schools and businesses in the 4 million-strong capital.
JNIM operates within 50 km of the city and has escalated attacks across Mali, aiming to pressure the military government. Since 2020, Mali has faced two coups; the current junta struggles after ending ties with France and the U.S. and failing to gain effective support from Russia's Wagner Group.
Islamist attacks killed 478 civilians in 2024. JNIM controls key trade routes and enforces strict social rules in rural areas. The blockade threatens Mali’s stability and risks regional collapse in Burkina Faso and Niger.

New Antibiotic 100 Times More Potent
Researchers discovered pre-methylenomycin C lactone, an antibiotic over 100 times stronger than methylenomycin A, produced naturally by Streptomyces coelicolor. It combats drug-resistant bacteria like MRSA and VRE, with no resistance observed in Enterococcus tests.
This contrasts with vancomycin, which faces resistance issues. The compound, found as a previously overlooked biosynthetic intermediate, can be synthesized at scale, enabling further research.
With antimicrobial resistance causing 1.1 million deaths yearly and few new antibiotics in development, pre-methylenomycin C lactone could offer a new treatment option.
Next steps involve preclinical safety testing and potential medical application to fight superbugs.

Nano Chemotherapy
Researchers transformed 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) into a spherical nucleic acid (SNA) nanoparticle that enters leukemia cells 12.5 times more efficiently and kills them 20,000 times more effectively.
In mice with acute myeloid leukemia, the SNA slowed cancer progression by 59 times without harming healthy cells or causing side effects. Traditional 5-Fu dissolves less than 1% in the body, limiting efficacy and damaging healthy tissue.
The SNA exploits leukemia cell receptors for targeted delivery, releasing 5-Fu inside tumors. Led by Chad A. Mirkin, the team plans larger animal studies and hopes for human trials, leveraging 5-Fu’s FDA approval to accelerate testing.
