U.S. Seizes Oil Tanker

The U.S. seized the Skipper, the largest oil tanker confiscated near Venezuela, sanctioned in 2022 for carrying Iranian crude and sailing under a fake flag.

The operation involved the Coast Guard and Navy amid rising U.S. pressure on Nicolás Maduro. Venezuela exports about 750,000 barrels of oil daily, half to China. Opposing Maduro, María Corina Machado fled Venezuela secretly by boat, aided by U.S. forces, to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway and plans international advocacy.

The U.S. designated Venezuela’s Cartel de los Soles as a terrorist group, enabling asset seizures. The Pentagon increased military presence, conducting airstrikes on drug boats and warning Maduro.

Do you think President Trump’s statement “Maduro’s days are numbered” is a reflection of U.S. intentions?

I was wrong.

When I opened this file, I expected a standard breakdown of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act." I expected to read about the permanent extension of the Trump tax cuts.

Instead, I found a warning.

This document details the "New Deduction Economy"—a quiet rewriting of the tax code that turns traditional wealth strategies upside down.

It explains why the new $40,000 SALT cap is actually a "trap" that creates a hidden 45.5% marginal tax bracket.

It exposes the "35-cent penalty"—a mechanism that ensures your deductions will never again match your tax rate, effectively creating a "phantom tax" on every dollar you spend.

And it reveals why your mortgage is no longer "good debt," and why writing a small check to charity now yields exactly zero tax benefit.

The era of automatic write-offs is over. If you are still using the 2017 playbook, you are about to overpay by tens of thousands of dollars.

I’ve left the full Deep Dive below. It’s time to rethink your leverage.

Fed Rate Cut

The Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 0.25 percentage points to a 3.5%-3.75% range, its third consecutive reduction, with a 9-3 split among officials. The Fed projects one more cut each in 2026 and 2027.

Inflation is expected to ease to 2.4%, and GDP growth is forecast at 2.3%, with unemployment stable at 4.4%. Fed Chair Powell noted official employment data likely overstates job gains by up to 60,000 monthly due to a flawed "birth-death" model, potentially masking a labor market decline.

Data delays from a government shutdown add uncertainty. The Fed will adjust policy based on evolving data rather than a preset path.

President Trump called the rate cut “small.” Faster rate cuts would likely:

I opened this report expecting to see a flood of year-end spending.

Instead, I saw a ghost town.

Almost every major industry—from Energy to Consumer Brands—has slashed its lobbying budget. The American Council of Engineering Companies alone pulled $18 million off the table.

But amidst this silence, two specific players are quietly pushing millions of dollars into DC.

One is a major university positioning itself as the new "federal hub" for AI research.

The other is a niche marine defense company betting big that wind farms will need armed security.

In a quiet market, money doesn't just talk—it screams.

The full breakdown of who is spending (and exactly what they are buying) is below.

Global Tariffs Heat Up

Mexico’s Senate approved tariffs of 5% to 50% on over 1,400 Asian products, effective January 1, 2026. Tariffs mainly target autos, metals, textiles, plastics, and steel from China, India, South Korea, Thailand, and Indonesia, countries lacking free trade agreements with Mexico.

The Senate vote was 76–5 with 35 abstentions. President Claudia Sheinbaum supports the tariffs to protect local industries. China condemned the tariffs as protectionist and launched a trade investigation into Mexico.

These measures coincide with escalating US-Mexico tensions, including threatened US tariffs on Mexican steel, aluminum, fentanyl, and water disputes. Mexico aims to balance domestic protection, US pressure, and growing Chinese influence in its trade policies.

How likely is it that China’s increased investment in Mexico is primarily aimed at bypassing U.S. tariffs?

I opened this file expecting a standard guide on wills and inheritance.

Instead, I found a survival guide for a system designed to bankrupt the unprepared.

It exposes the devastating reality that 62% of Americans get wrong: Medicare pays zero for long-term custodial care.

It explains why the "Living Trust" your lawyer sold you offers absolutely no protection against nursing home liens—if you need care, those assets are fully exposed.

It details the brutal "Spend-Down" mandate that forces families to liquidate their life savings down to just $2,000 before the government steps in.

But it also hands you the "Fortress" blueprint:

  • It reveals the Medicaid Asset Protection Trust (MAPT), an irrevocable shield that starts the "five-year clock" now, effectively removing your home from the state's reach.

  • It breaks down "Hybrid Policies" that solve the "use it or lose it" insurance problem—guaranteeing your heirs get a death benefit if you never need care.

  • It outlines "Spousal Refusal," a crisis maneuver that allows a healthy spouse to legally refuse to pay for care, protecting their retirement from total depletion.

This isn't just about healthcare. It is a manual for stopping the single biggest destroyer of generational wealth in America.

I’ve left the full Asset Protection Blueprint below.

B-52s in Asia

Two U.S. B-52 bombers flew over the Sea of Japan with six Japanese fighters (three F-35s, three F-15s) in a joint patrol responding to increased Chinese and Russian military activity.

This followed a December 9 joint bomber flight by China and Russia over the East China Sea and western Pacific and Chinese aircraft carrier drills near Japan’s southern islands. Japan scrambled jets as Chinese J-15s targeted them with radar. South Korea also deployed jets against Chinese and Russian aircraft entering its air defense zone.

The exercise reinforces US-Japan resolve to deter forceful status quo changes amid rising regional tensions linked to Taiwan and China’s military pressure.

In the context of Taiwan’s security, should the US be prepared to intervene militarily if China attacks?

Dark Chocolate Slows Aging

Researchers studied 1,669 Europeans to link blood theobromine levels, a dark chocolate compound, with slower biological aging. Using DNA methylation and telomere length as aging markers, they found higher theobromine correlated with a younger biological age.

This effect was unique to theobromine among cocoa and coffee compounds tested. Theobromine may affect gene activity related to aging and longevity. Researchers are exploring whether it acts alone or with other dark chocolate compounds like polyphenols.

Despite heart health benefits, researchers advise caution before increasing dark chocolate intake due to sugar and fat content. This study opens new avenues for dietary impacts on genetic aging.

Given dark chocolate’s sugar and fat content, would you consider consuming more of it if it was proven to slow aging?

Monkeypox’s Weak Spot

Researchers used AI to identify OPG153, a previously unrecognized monkeypox virus protein, as a key target for neutralizing antibodies. Laboratory tests showed mice immunized with OPG153 produced effective antibodies, suggesting potential for simpler, cheaper vaccines than current whole-virus smallpox-based options.

Twelve monkeypox-blocking antibodies with unknown targets were linked to OPG153 via AI analysis. The findings may also enhance smallpox vaccines and treatments, addressing bioweapon concerns. The University of Texas at Austin and Italian collaborators filed patents on OPG153 vaccines and antibodies, funded partly by the Welch Foundation.

This reverse vaccinology approach leverages AI to accelerate antiviral drug development, enabling faster identification of viable vaccine components.

Would you prefer a simpler single-protein vaccine over a more complex whole-virus vaccine, even if it’s newer and less tested?
